ACTC vs CTC difference? PATH Act impact on child support garnishment?
My fiance is claiming me and our 2 kids on his return. He owes some child support from before, probably gonna get garnished. Not sure if we fall under PATH act since I didnt work last year. Really need help understanding the difference between ACTC and CTC and what this means for our refund timing.

CTC is Child Tax Credit and ACTC is Additional Child Tax Credit. The main difference is CTC reduces your tax liability, while ACTC is refundable - meaning you can get it even if you don't owe taxes. And yes, you fall under PATH act since you're claiming ACTC. This means the IRS can't issue your refund before mid-February. The child support will definitely be taken from the refund first before you get anything.

Pro tip: call the Treasury Offset Program at 1-800-304-3107 to see exactly how much will be taken for child support. Better to know the damage beforehand 🤷♀️
