Filed joint return - got federal refund but state kept taxes. How to pay $88 balance?
Filed taxes jointly with spouse for first time and just found out through a letter that state is keeping my refund. We got our federal refund no problem but state says I owe them. Wondering if its normal to owe state but not federal? They're holding my state refund and saying I still need to pay $88 but the letter doesn't explain how to pay. Really confused about what to do next.

Illinois State Tax Return Still Processing After 30 Days - No Updates
Filed my Illinois state taxes 30 days ago and got accepted right away but when I check the status it still just says processing. Anyone else dealing with this? Starting to get worried since I was counting on this money.

971 Notice Code + $581 IRS Debt - How Long Until Refund?
Just saw a 971 code pop up on my transcript and I owe the IRS $581.26. Anyone know how long until I get whats left of my refund? Getting stressed about this whole situation

Did you check if you have a 290 code too? That usually comes with the 971

means they adjusted your tax return. thats probly where that $581 came from
Filed 1/23, Accepted Same Day, No Refund After 21 Days - Anyone Else?
Filed and got accepted January 23rd and here we are 21 days later with nothing to show for it. WMR still says processing and transcript hasnt updated at all. Starting to get worried since everyone else I know already got their refund deposited.

Mental Health Check: Dealing with Stress While Waiting for Tax Refund
Been waiting on my refund since February and the stress is getting to me. Caught myself snapping at my kids over little things. Had to check myself - this aint their fault. Just needed to vent and see if anyone else is struggling with the waiting game. Its hard when you're counting on that money but we gotta keep it together for the family.

Check if your state has a payment plan option. Mine let me split it up over 3 months when I was in the same boat

its probably bc of different withholding rates between federal and state. might wanna adjust your w4 for next year so this doesnt happen again
