After waiting 5 weeks with no updates, I used Claimyr.com to get through to an IRS agent. Got connected in about 15 minutes instead of spending hours on hold. The agent told me my return was just in the verification queue because I claimed CTC, and there wasn't anything wrong with it. Got my deposit exactly 8 days after that call. Worth every penny to finally get answers and my refund! https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c
How much does that service cost? The IRS phone system is absolutely terrible.
It varies depending on time of day, but I paid around $25. Considering I spent THREE DAYS trying to call them myself with no luck, it was totally worth it. Plus I needed that $4800 refund ASAP for car repairs.
Check your transcript codes if you can access them. If you see code 570 (refund hold) followed by 971 (notice issued), they might be requesting additional verification. I had this happen last year and had to send in documents proving my kids lived with me.
OMG I HATED EzTax with a passion!!! π‘ Their interface is so clunky and outdated! I switched to TaxSlayer this year and it was like night and day difference. EzTax couldn't properly import my Uber tax summary and I had to manually enter EVERYTHING. Plus they charged me an extra $39.99 for the "gig worker package" that basically just added a few extra forms that should have been included. I was literally yelling at my computer trying to find where to enter certain expenses. Never again!
I think I might be the only one who had an okay experience with EzTax? It's not amazing or anything, but it got the job done for my DoorDash income. The interface is a bit... old-fashioned, but I managed to figure it out. Just make sure to double-check all your entries because it doesn't have the best error checking. I'm so relieved I'm not the only one trying to figure out the best way to file gig work taxes.
I'm on day 35 π Filed Feb 1st. Called IRS twice and couldn't get through. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get past the hold times - got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. Found out my return was just stuck in the verification queue and nothing was wrong. Agent manually released it and I got my DD two days later. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human to get things moving.
Check your tax year 2023 account transcript, not return transcript. Account transcript will show any holds or processing codes. If you see code 570, that's a hold. If you see 971, that's a notice being sent. 846 is the refund issued code you're waiting for.
Just checked again and my account transcript for 2023 still says N/A. Does that mean they haven't even started processing it yet? π€
Not necessarily. Sometimes the transcript doesn't update until processing is complete. The N/A status just means there's no completed transcript available yet. As long as your return was accepted (not just submitted), it's in their system being processed.
Here's exactly what happens after TPG shows funded: 1. TPG has received your refund from the IRS 2. They deduct any authorized fees you agreed to 3. They process the remaining amount for transfer to your bank 4. They initiate an ACH transfer to your account 5. Your bank receives and processes the incoming transfer 6. Funds become available in your account This typically takes 1-3 business days total, with most people seeing deposits within 48 hours of the funded status. The relief you'll feel when it finally arrives will be worth the wait!
Watch out for the TPG app glitches! My status showed funded for a WEEK b4 anything happened. Then randomly got $ at 2am on a Sat. Their system is buggy AF. Tbh better to just check ur bank acct instead. Also make sure ur bank doesn't have a hold policy for tax refunds - some do this for "security" or w/e but rly just want to hold ur $ longer. GL!

WARNING about prior year refund checks: β’ They DO NOT notify you when they mail it β’ Checks CAN be sent to old addresses if you moved β’ Mail forwarding DOESN'T always catch these government checks β’ Replacement checks take 6+ WEEKS if lost Make sure your address is current! Learned this the hard way when my check went to my old apartment. Such a headache getting it reissued.

β’This is excellent information regarding the Treasury check disbursement protocol. Many taxpayers aren't aware that Form 8822 (Change of Address) should be filed separately from tax returns when relocating. Your detailed warning could save many people significant delays.

I think mine took about 8 weeks from processing to mailbox, maybe a bit longer. It's hard to be sure exactly when they started processing. The check came right when I had almost given up. This was for a 2020 return I filed late last year. The amount was exactly what I expected, at least.
