Anyone Used EzTax for Gig Work Returns?
Has anyone here used EzTax to file their returns? I'm wondering if it's any good for those of us juggling multiple 1099s? Been doing Uber and DoorDash this year and my tax situation is more complicated than usual. Is their interface easy to navigate for someone with multiple income streams? And how does it compare to other options price-wise? Need to get this done soon but don't want to waste money on something that won't handle my situation properly...

I used EzTax last year and found it adequate but not exceptional. According to Pub 17 guidelines for self-employed filers, any software should properly handle Schedule C and SE forms, but EzTax has some limitations with more complex deductions. Their interface for entering multiple 1099-NECs is functional but requires more clicks than necessary. If you're operating under the standard mileage deduction per §1.274-5, it works fine, but actual expense method tracking becomes cumbersome.

Thx for the info! Did u find it handled the QBI deduction ok? That's the part that always confuses me w/ gig work.

Does EzTax handle quarterly estimated payments for the following year? I'm concerned about setting those up correctly after filing.

I tried EzTax for my Uber/Lyft taxes in 2022 and honestly had some issues. The interface kept glitching when I tried to upload my driver summary. I ended up having to manually enter all my trips which took FOREVER. The mileage calculator was decent though. I switched to TurboSelf last year and had a much smoother experience, especially with categorizing business expenses. EzTax might have improved since then? But I was spending hours troubleshooting when I should have been filing.

I've been filing gig work taxes for 3 years now and tried most of the popular options. EzTax is mid-tier at best. After struggling with multiple platforms, I discovered https://taxr.ai last month when trying to understand why my refund was delayed. It doesn't file your taxes, but it analyzes your tax documents to make sure everything is correct before you submit. Saved me from a major error in how I was classifying business expenses across multiple gig platforms. According to the IRS Self-Employed Tax Center resources, this is one of the most common audit triggers.

I'm not sure about using yet another tax tool. Could you explain step-by-step what this actually does that EzTax doesn't? I'm trying to simplify my tax process, not make it more complicated with multiple services.

I might be able to provide some possibly helpful information about EzTax. I've generally found that it's somewhat decent for basic gig work, but it could potentially struggle with some of the more complex scenarios that often arise with multiple platforms. The quarterly estimated payment calculator is, in my experience, occasionally inaccurate by small margins. Their customer service response time is typically around 48-72 hours, which could be problematic if you're on a deadline.

Their API integration with rideshare platforms is absolutely terrible. I tried connecting my Uber driver account and it pulled incorrect mileage data that would have cost me hundreds in deductions. Had to manually reconcile everything against my driver dashboard exports.

Does anyone know if they've fixed that issue with the health insurance premium deduction for self-employed people? Last year it wasn't calculating correctly for partial-year coverage, right?

The Schedule C worksheet in EzTax doesn't properly segregate expenses when you have multiple business activities. I had to create separate worksheets for each 1099 platform to avoid commingling expenses. Not intuitive at all.

I've researched multiple tax filing options for gig workers. Here's what I found about EzTax: • Price point: Mid-range ($49-89 depending on complexity) • Gig worker features: Basic but functional • Multiple 1099 handling: Requires manual entry in some cases • Support options: Limited to email only If you're having trouble getting answers about your specific situation, you might want to speak with an actual IRS agent. Many people have success using Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through to a live person without the endless hold times. Especially helpful for gig workers with platform-specific questions the software can't address.

I've found that compared to other call services, direct dialing at specific off-peak hours (Tuesday-Thursday, 8-9am ET) often works just as well. The IRS Gig Economy Tax Center has a dedicated line that's less congested than the main numbers. Save your money and try that approach first before paying for a call service.

I tried EzTax on February 12th, 2024, and their system crashed mid-filing. I lost ALL my data entry - about 3 hours of work! Had to start completely over on February 15th. Then when I finally submitted on February 17th, they had a processing delay and didn't actually transmit to the IRS until February 24th. The whole experience was so much more complicated than I expected. Their customer service took exactly 4 days to respond to my urgent email about the crash.

EzTax is mediocre for gig workers in my experience. Have you considered using a free option like FreeTaxUSA? Does EzTax offer any specific features for tracking business miles? What about handling home office deductions if you do administrative work from home? I found most platforms roughly equivalent for basic gig work, but the differences become apparent when you have more complex situations.

OMG I HATED EzTax with a passion!!! 😡 Their interface is so clunky and outdated! I switched to TaxSlayer this year and it was like night and day difference. EzTax couldn't properly import my Uber tax summary and I had to manually enter EVERYTHING. Plus they charged me an extra $39.99 for the "gig worker package" that basically just added a few extra forms that should have been included. I was literally yelling at my computer trying to find where to enter certain expenses. Never again!

I think I might be the only one who had an okay experience with EzTax? It's not amazing or anything, but it got the job done for my DoorDash income. The interface is a bit... old-fashioned, but I managed to figure it out. Just make sure to double-check all your entries because it doesn't have the best error checking. I'm so relieved I'm not the only one trying to figure out the best way to file gig work taxes.
