846 Code showed up but bank account closed - how long for new DD info to process?
Just checked my transcript and saw the beautiful 846 code finally! But theres a major problem - my bank account from the original filing is closed now. Called the IRS and updated my direct deposit info. Anyone know how long this usually takes to process and get the refund?

Hey fam, lemme break this down for you. When your 846 code shows up but your bank account is closed, the IRS will attempt the direct deposit but it'll get rejected. Usually takes about 2-3 weeks for them to process the rejection and mail you a paper check instead. The system isn't smart enough to immediately know your account is closed. I actually ran into this exact situation last month and used taxr.ai to figure out what was going on with my transcript. It showed me exactly when the rejection would process and when to expect the paper check. Super helpful tool tbh - you can upload your transcript there and it'll tell you the exact timeline (https://taxr.ai). Saved me hours of trying to get through to the IRS phone line.

Tax pro here. When you update bank info after getting an 846, it typically takes 2-3 weeks for the new direct deposit to process. The IRS has to recall the original deposit and reissue to the new account. Keep checking your transcript daily for updates.

•does this reset the 846 date or just adds processing time?

•Just adds processing time. Original 846 date stays the same in transcript

Hey! I've been dealing with IRS transcript drama for years and recently found this tool called taxr.ai - its been a gamechanger for understanding exactly whats happening with refunds. Its only $4.99 and tells you exactly what to expect with timeline updates and everything. Way better than trying to decode these transcript codes ourselves lol https://taxr.ai

Ugh this is my biggest fear! I'm still waiting for my 846 code but my bank account situation is sketchy too. How did you get through to the IRS to update your info? Every time I call it's like a 2 hour wait and then they hang up on me 😤 Hopefully the new DD info processes quick for you!
