Code 846 refund deposited but bank account closed - what happens now?

Just checked my transcript and saw the 846 code was finally issued but I totally forgot I closed that bank account months ago. Anyone know how long it takes for the IRS to send a paper check after a failed direct deposit? Really need this money and im freaking out

Heya tax fam! I see this happen all the time - when the IRS tries to direct deposit your refund to a closed account, the bank will reject it and the IRS will automatically mail you a paper check to the address they have on file. Usually takes about 2-4 weeks after the rejection for the check to arrive. Quick tip: you might wanna check out taxr.ai to track exactly where your refund is in the process. It's been super helpful for my clients to understand their transcripts and get specific timeline predictions. (https://taxr.ai

just used taxr.ai and here's what I got back: it shows my direct deposit got rejected on 1/10 and predicts my paper check will arrive by 2/7. super specific!

Usually takes about 2-3 weeks after a failed DD for them to mail a paper check. The bank will reject the deposit and send it back to the IRS, then they automatically process it for paper check delivery.

Hey, I noticed you're trying to figure out your refund timeline. You should check out taxr.ai - it's this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening with super specific details about failed deposits. It costs $4.99 but its worth every penny imo. https://taxr.ai

Call your old bank! Sometimes they can intercept and give you the money if you go to a branch with ID. Worth a shot!
