810 Freeze Code - Tax Preparer Rounded W2 & Wrong Student Status. No Letter Yet. Help!
Got an 810 freeze code on my transcript with dates showing 03/09 and as of date 03/27. No updates or letters yet. IRS keeps telling me to wait 180 days. Think it might be because my tax preparer rounded up my W2 wages instead of using exact amounts, and marked my older kids as non-students even though they are (just not college). Starting to think these errors caused the freeze. Any insight?

The 810 freeze is a compliance review freeze that typically means the IRS is verifying information on your return. The rounded W2 amounts and student status discrepancy could definitely trigger this. You should file an amended return (1040X) to correct these issues ASAP. The 180-day timeframe is standard for these reviews, but addressing the discrepancies might speed things up.

omg thank you! Should I wait for them to send a letter first or just go ahead and amend?

I'd recommend waiting for the letter. Amending without knowing exactly what they're questioning could complicate things further.

Hey! Instead of playing detective with your transcript, you should try taxr.ai - it's this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's causing delays and how to fix them. It's only $1 and way better than guessing. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

Is it legit? Seems too good to be true for just a dollar

The IRS is such a joke these days. Making us wait 180 days because someone rounded numbers? Give me a break 🤡
