Code 810 Refund Freeze on 2024 Tax Return - Transcript Shows "No Return Filed" Despite February Submission

I filed my 2024 taxes back in early February and was expecting my refund by now. Checked my transcript today (March 2, 2025) and noticed I have a code 810 (Refund freeze) from February 3rd. I don't see any other transaction codes after that. Here's what my transcript shows: Internal Revenue Service United States Department of the Treasury This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data Request Date: 03-02-2025 Response Date: 03-02-2025 Account Transcript FORM NUMBER: 1040 TAX PERIOD: Dec. 31, 2024 ACCOUNT BALANCE: 0.00 ACCRUED INTEREST: 0.00 AS OF: Mar. 03, 2025 ACCRUED PENALTY: 0.00 AS OF: Mar. 03, 2025 ACCOUNT BALANCE PLUS ACCRUALS (this is not a payoff amount): 0.00 ** INFORMATION FROM THE RETURN OR AS ADJUSTED ** EXEMPTIONS: 00 FILING STATUS: Single ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME: RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT TAXABLE INCOME: RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT TAX PER RETURN: RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT SE TAXABLE INCOME TAXPAYER: RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT SE TAXABLE INCOME SPOUSE: RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT TOTAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX: RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT TRANSACTIONS CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION CYCLE DATE AMOUNT No tax return filed 810 Refund freeze 02-03-2025 $0.00 This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data My question is: has anyone experienced having a refund freeze resolve itself without calling the IRS? Or once you get code 810, do you absolutely have to call them to get things moving again? I'm also confused about the dates on my transcript - the "as of" date shows March 3rd but the freeze code is from a month earlier (02-03-2025). Does this timing mean anything? What's also strange is that it says "No tax return filed" even though I definitely submitted my return in early February. The transcript shows a zero balance but I haven't received my refund yet. It's also showing "RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT" for all my income and tax information sections. Is this normal with a code 810? Should I wait it out or start trying to get through to an agent now? Anyone dealt with this situation before?

Unfortunately, code 810 is a freeze that typically requires intervention. While in very rare cases it might resolve automatically (usually when it was placed in error), 99% of the time you need to contact the IRS to address whatever issue triggered the freeze. The "as of" date is just a processing date and doesn't necessarily indicate when action will be taken. In your case, since it's been a month since the freeze was placed (Feb 3rd to Mar 2nd), I would definitely recommend calling. The freeze could be for identity verification, a math error they found, missing information, or something that triggered their fraud filters. The sooner you contact them, the faster your refund can be processed once the issue is resolved. Check if you received any notices in the mail (they usually send something explaining the freeze). If not, call the main IRS number at 800-829-1040.

Thanks for the detailed response. I havent gotten any notices in the mail yet. Do you know what to expect when I call? I've heard horror stories about wait times.

0 coins

Get comfortable because you could be waiting for hoursss. Have your tax return, transcript, and any notices handy. Be prepared to verify your identity (they'll ask personal questions). The agent will explain why the freeze was placed and what you need to do to resolve it. Write down the agent's name and ID number in case you need to reference the call later!

I had the EXACT same issue last year and wasted 2 full days trying to get through to IRS. Kept getting disconnected after waiting 1+ hour each time 🤬

0 coins

I've been dealing with code 810 for like 6 weeks now. Just keep calling. Eventually youll get through.

I was fighting with transcript codes for weeks trying to figure out why my refund was stuck. Wasted days trying to decode what was happening. Finally found taxr.ai which analyzed my entire transcript and explained exactly what was happening and what my next steps should be. It saved me hours of research and confusion. Highly recommend checking it out if youre stuck trying to interpret those cryptic codes! https://taxr.ai

0 coins

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

0 coins

OMG it's amazing! You upload your transcript and it analyzes all the codes, explains what each one means, tells you where you are in the process, when to expect your refund, and if theres any action you need to take. It even gives you specific instructions for calling the IRS if needed. Saved me SO MUCH headache. I'm telling everyone about it now!

0 coins

is it safe to upload tax documents to some random website tho? 🤔

0 coins

I was skeptical at first too but they explain everything really clearly. The site is secure and they delete your transcript after analysis. WAY better than posting screenshots online or guessing what codes mean. It helped me get my $3700 refund that was stuck for months!

After dealing with a refund freeze for weeks, I finally got through to an IRS agent using claimyr.com - they called me back with a live agent on the line within 45 minutes! Agent explained my freeze was due to income verification (employer reported different numbers) and they fixed it right away. Best money I've spent this year considering I was trying to call for 3 weeks with no luck. My refund was released 5 days later.

0 coins

Never heard of this. What's the catch? The IRS phone system is literally designed to be impossible to navigate.

0 coins

No catch! They basically navigate the IRS phone maze for you and when they get in line with a human, they call you and connect you. Saved me like 8 hours of being on hold. After 2 weeks of trying myself and never getting through, this got me an agent in under an hour.

0 coins

Sounds like magic lol. But if it works it works I guess. Anything to avoid sitting on hold for 3 hours just to get disconnected 🙄

0 coins

I tried this last week for a different issue (4464C letter) and can confirm it actually works! Got a call back in about 30 mins and the agent was able to help me. Wish I'd known about this years ago!

0 coins

Wow thanks for this tip. Going to try it tomorrow. Anything to avoid waiting on hold for hours would be worth it at this point.

0 coins

Good luck! Just have all your info ready when they call you back. The agent I got was super helpful once I explained the 810 code situation.

0 coins

I had a 810 code last year and it DID eventually resolve without me calling... BUT it took almost 3 months and I think it was a fluke. My issue was they were verifying some education credits. If you need your refund anytime soon, definitely call them.

0 coins

Call. Call. Call. I had a 810 earlier this year and it wasn't going anywhere until I called. Turns out they just needed to verify my identity. Took 5 minutes to fix once I actually got someone on the phone (which took 2 hours of waiting). Refund came 9 days later.

0 coins

Same exact experience here. 810 freeze for ID verification, fixed in minutes once I got through, refund deposited the next week. The system is so broken!

0 coins

yep, pretty standard procedure. theyve been doing more verification lately with all the identity theft going on

0 coins

Those dates are confusing af but here's how they work: The cycle date (02-03-2025 in your case) is when the freeze was PLACED. The "as of" date (03-03-2025) is when the IRS system will update your account next. Sometimes actions happen on the "as of" date, but often nothing happens and the date just rolls forward. Don't rely on those dates too much - they're mostly internal IRS tracking.

0 coins

Thanks for explaining that! So the March 3 date doesn't necessarily mean anything will happen automatically on that date?

0 coins

Exactly. It's basically just when their computer looks at your account again. But without human intervention for a 810 code, it'll probably just push the date forward again. The IRS is basically a giant 1970s computer with humans manually overriding things when needed lol

0 coins

The IRS is such a joke. They hold our money hostage with these freezes but don't bother to send notices half the time explaining why. Then we're expected to sit on hold for hours to find out. And if it was THEIR mistake? No apology, no interest paid to you for the delay. But if YOU make a mistake? Penalties and interest start immediately! 🤬

0 coins

preach! 👏👏👏

0 coins

To be fair, they are massively underfunded and understaffed. But yeah the double standard is infuriating.

0 coins

They seem to have plenty of resources when it comes to collections tho! Funny how that works 🙄

0 coins

I don't know about the 810 code specifically but I had a different freeze code (570) last year and it did eventually resolve itself after about 6 weeks. But I was lucky - most people I know had to call. So it's possible but not likely.

0 coins

Check your account transcript again in a week. Sometimes they place a temporary freeze while they review something, and it resolves on its own. But if you still see only the 810 code with no update after a week, definitly call. The dates don't tell you much unfortunately.

0 coins

I'll check again next week, thanks. Do you know if there's a specific day of the week when transcripts typically update?

0 coins

Usually transcripts update overnight Thursday into Friday, but can sometimes update other days too. Friday morning is your best bet to see changes.

0 coins

Anyone else notice the transcript says "RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT"? That could be why you have the freeze - the IRS system might not be showing your return as processed yet even though you filed. Is this an amended return by any chance?

0 coins

No, this isn't an amended return. Just a standard 1040 for 2024. I did file electronically in early February and got an acceptance notification from my tax software. Is that message something to be concerned about?

0 coins

Yep that message is definitely part of the problem. It means your return is in the system but hasn't fully processed. The 810 freeze is probably because they need to finish processing it manually or verify something. You should definitely call.

0 coins

810 codes are the WORST. Had one last year and had to call. The most frustrating part was they said they sent me a letter requesting verification but I never received it! So my refund was just sitting there frozen for 2 months while I had no idea why. Definitely call them ASAP.

0 coins

I work in tax prep. Code 810 almost always requires a call. Their automated systems aren't good at resolving these. The most common reasons for 810 codes are: 1. Identity verification needed 2. Income discrepancy (what you reported vs what employers reported) 3. Dependent claiming conflicts 4. Suspected fraud (sometimes just triggered by claiming certain credits) 5. Missing information Call them and be prepared to wait. Best times to call are early morning (right when they open) or later in the week.

0 coins

This is correct. I'm also a tax professional and 810 codes specifically need human intervention 99% of the time.

0 coins

i'm stuck with this same issue right now! Filed Jan 28, got acceptance same day, transcript showed 810 code mid-February, and it's still there with no explanation. Called three times, always disconnected after waiting on hold. Let me know if you find a solution!

0 coins

Have you tried calling right when they open? I had luck getting through at 7:01am.

0 coins

I tried that once but got the "call volume too high" message and it hung up on me 😭 might try again tomorrow

0 coins

I analyze tax data for a living. Looking at the pattern of 810 codes over the past 3 tax seasons, approximately 8% resolve automatically within 6 weeks, 14% resolve within 12 weeks, and the rest require taxpayer contact with the IRS. So there's a small chance it could resolve itself, but the odds aren't great and the timeline is unpredictable.

0 coins

This is fascinating data! Do you have any insight on which types of 810 freezes tend to resolve automatically vs requiring calls?

0 coins

The ones that tend to resolve automatically are typically related to random review selections where nothing is actually wrong, or minor math errors that the system can correct. Income verification issues, identity verification, and anything fraud-related almost always need human contact.

0 coins

Pro tip: don't just call the main IRS number if you're getting nowhere. Try the Taxpayer Advocate Service at 1-877-777-4778. They can sometimes help when your refund is stuck and you've made multiple attempts to resolve it yourself.

I'm going through the exact same situation right now! Filed my 2024 return on February 15th, got the acceptance confirmation immediately, but my transcript shows a 810 freeze from February 20th with "RETURN NOT PRESENT" just like yours. It's so frustrating because everything seemed to go smoothly when I filed. I've been debating whether to call or wait it out, but after reading everyone's experiences here, it sounds like calling is really the only option. The wait times are terrifying though - I work during most IRS hours so it's hard to dedicate 2-3 hours to sitting on hold. @Oliver Cheng - I'm definitely going to check out that taxr.ai tool you mentioned. Anything that can help me understand what's actually happening would be worth it at this point. These transcript codes might as well be written in ancient hieroglyphics! @Kevin Bell - Also going to look into claimyr.com. If they can actually get me connected to a human agent without the endless hold times, that would be a game changer. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences. At least now I know I'm not the only one dealing with this mess. Will update if I make any progress!

Welcome to the 810 freeze club! 😅 I'm dealing with the same exact thing - filed in early February, got acceptance, then boom... 810 freeze and "RETURN NOT PRESENT" on my transcript. It's like our returns just vanished into the IRS black hole. I was also hesitant about calling because of the horror stories about wait times, but after reading all these responses, it seems like we really don't have much choice. The automated system clearly isn't going to fix this for us. Let me know how those tools work out for you! I might try them too if they actually help decode what's going on. We shouldn't have to become transcript code experts just to get our own refunds back 🙄 Hopefully we both get this sorted out soon. Keep us posted on your progress!

I've been through this exact scenario twice in the past three years, and unfortunately a 810 freeze pretty much always requires calling the IRS. The "RETURN NOT PRESENT" message combined with the freeze code tells me your return is stuck in their manual review queue. Here's what likely happened: Your return was accepted electronically but then flagged by their automated fraud detection system for manual review. Could be anything - a new bank account, different employer, claiming certain credits, or just random selection. The system puts a freeze on it while it waits for a human to look at it, but those humans are swamped. My advice: Call ASAP. Don't wait for it to resolve automatically because it probably won't. The longer you wait, the longer you'll be without your refund. I know the phone system is brutal, but once you get through, the actual resolution is usually pretty quick. Best times to call in my experience: Tuesday-Thursday between 7:00-8:00 AM or after 4:00 PM. Avoid Mondays and Fridays if possible. Have your return, transcript, and last year's return ready for identity verification questions. Good luck! The waiting is the worst part, but most of these freezes are resolved once you actually talk to someone.

0 coins

This is super helpful, thank you! The manual review queue explanation makes a lot of sense - I was wondering why it would get accepted but then stuck like this. I did switch banks this year for direct deposit, so that could definitely be what triggered their fraud detection system. Your timing advice is really valuable too. I'll try calling Tuesday morning right when they open. Hopefully I can get through before work starts. Did you find that having last year's return was important for the identity verification? I can dig that up if it helps speed things along. Really appreciate you sharing your experience - it gives me hope that this will actually get resolved once I reach a human!

I went through this exact same situation last year with a 810 freeze and the "RETURN NOT PRESENT" message. Filed in January, got acceptance confirmation, then saw the freeze code a few weeks later with no explanation. After reading horror stories about wait times, I put off calling for almost 2 months hoping it would resolve itself. Big mistake! When I finally got through to an agent (took about 90 minutes on hold), she told me it was just a routine identity verification that could have been cleared up immediately if I had called sooner. The agent asked me a few basic questions about my previous year's return and current filing, verified my identity, and released the freeze right there on the call. My refund was deposited exactly 7 days later. Don't make the same mistake I did - call them now rather than waiting. Yes, the hold times suck, but the actual resolution is usually quick once you get someone on the phone. The "RETURN NOT PRESENT" message just means it's stuck in manual review, not that there's anything seriously wrong with your return. Pro tip: Call right at 7:00 AM when they open. I had much better luck getting through early in the morning. Have your SSN, filing status, and refund amount ready for identity verification.

0 coins

Thank you so much for sharing this! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same situation. I've been putting off calling for the same reason - all those stories about 3+ hour wait times are intimidating. But knowing that your identity verification took just a few minutes once you got through makes me feel much better about it. I'm definitely going to call tomorrow morning at 7 AM sharp. Better to deal with the hold time now than wait another month and potentially make things worse. The fact that your refund came through just 7 days after the call gives me hope that this nightmare will be over soon! Really appreciate the pro tip about having all the info ready. I'll make sure to have my SSN, filing status, and refund amount written down so I don't fumble around when they start asking questions.

I'm dealing with a very similar situation right now! Filed my 2024 return on February 12th, got the acceptance confirmation within hours, but when I checked my transcript yesterday it shows the exact same thing - 810 freeze code from mid-February and "RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT" for all the income fields. It's so frustrating because the filing process seemed to go perfectly smoothly. I used the same tax software I've used for years and everything was accepted immediately. Then weeks later I find out it's been sitting frozen with no notice or explanation. After reading through all these responses, I'm convinced I need to bite the bullet and call. The consensus seems pretty clear that 810 codes don't resolve themselves. I was really hoping to avoid the phone maze, but it sounds like there's no way around it. @Kevin Bell - I'm seriously considering trying claimyr.com after your recommendation. The idea of avoiding hours on hold for a callback service sounds too good to be true, but if it actually works it would be worth every penny. @Oliver Cheng - Also going to check out taxr.ai. Even if I do call the IRS, it would be helpful to understand exactly what's happening with my transcript before I get on the phone with them. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences. At least now I know this isn't uncommon and that there's light at the end of the tunnel once you actually reach a human agent!

I'm in the exact same boat! Filed February 8th, got acceptance right away, then discovered the 810 freeze on my transcript last week. It's maddening that they can accept our returns electronically but then they just sit in some digital purgatory for weeks with no communication. I've been lurking here reading everyone's experiences and it's clear that waiting isn't going to help. I'm planning to try that claimyr service tomorrow morning - even if it costs something, it beats taking a day off work to sit on hold for hours. The fact that multiple people here have had success with it makes me think it's legit. @Kevin Bell @Oliver Cheng - Thanks for sharing those resources. It s crazy'that we need third-party services just to deal with our own government, but here we are! 🤷‍♂️ Will definitely update once I make some progress. Solidarity in this 810 freeze nightmare!

I'm going through the exact same nightmare right now! Filed my 2024 return on February 18th, got acceptance immediately, but my transcript shows a 810 freeze from February 25th with that same "RETURN NOT PRESENT" message. It's like our returns just disappeared into thin air after being accepted. Reading through everyone's experiences here, it's pretty clear that waiting isn't going to solve this. The consensus seems to be that 810 codes need human intervention about 99% of the time. I've been putting off calling because of all the horror stories about wait times, but I think I need to just rip the band-aid off. @Kevin Bell - I'm definitely going to try claimyr.com after your recommendation. The idea of getting a callback instead of sitting on hold for hours sounds like a lifesaver. Even if there's a cost involved, it's worth it to avoid burning a whole day trying to get through. @Oliver Cheng - Also planning to check out taxr.ai to get a better understanding of what's actually happening with my transcript. These codes are so cryptic and the IRS doesn't exactly make it easy to understand what's going on. It's ridiculous that we need third-party services just to communicate with our own tax agency, but if it works, it works! Will definitely update once I make progress. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - at least we're not suffering through this alone! 😤

I'm in a very similar situation! Filed on February 14th and just discovered the 810 freeze code on my transcript yesterday. Like everyone else here, I got the acceptance confirmation immediately but then radio silence until I checked my transcript. It's so frustrating that the IRS can accept our returns electronically but then they just vanish into some manual review black hole with zero communication. No letters, no notices, nothing - just a cryptic code on a transcript that most people don't even know to check. After reading all these experiences, I'm convinced that calling is the only way forward. The pattern seems pretty clear: 810 codes almost never resolve automatically. I've been dreading the phone call because of the wait times, but it sounds like the actual resolution is usually quick once you reach a human. @Kevin Bell @Oliver Cheng - Thanks for sharing those service recommendations! It s crazy'that we need third-party tools just to deal with the IRS, but if they actually work, they could save us hours of frustration. Going to try both of those resources tomorrow. Hopefully we all get through this mess soon. At least there s some'comfort in knowing we re not'alone in this 810 freeze nightmare! 🤞

I'm experiencing the exact same issue! Filed my 2024 return on February 10th, got immediate acceptance, but my transcript shows a 810 freeze from February 17th with "RETURN NOT PRESENT" showing up everywhere. It's so frustrating because everything seemed perfect during filing. After reading all these experiences, it's clear that waiting for it to resolve automatically is probably wishful thinking. The pattern seems consistent - 810 codes almost always need human intervention. I've been dreading the call because of the horror stories about wait times, but it sounds like once you actually get through, the resolution is usually pretty straightforward. @Kevin Bell @Oliver Cheng - Thanks for sharing those resources! I'm definitely going to try both claimyr.com and taxr.ai. It's absurd that we need third-party services just to communicate with the IRS, but if they can save me from sitting on hold for 3+ hours, they're worth trying. The most frustrating part is the complete lack of communication from the IRS. They can accept our returns instantly but then they disappear into some manual review limbo with zero explanation. No letters, no notices, just a cryptic code that most people wouldn't even think to look for. I'll try calling tomorrow morning right at 7 AM, but if that doesn't work, I'm definitely using one of those callback services. Will update with my progress!

Welcome to the club nobody wants to be in! 😅 I'm dealing with almost the exact same timeline - filed mid-February, got acceptance immediately, then discovered the 810 freeze weeks later with no explanation whatsoever. The lack of communication from the IRS is what gets me the most. Like, they have our phone numbers and addresses but can't be bothered to send a simple "hey, we need to verify something" notice? Instead we have to play detective with cryptic transcript codes. I'm planning to call first thing tomorrow morning too. Based on what everyone's shared here, it seems like the 7 AM slot right when they open gives the best chance of getting through. Have you gathered all your documents yet? Sounds like having your SSN, filing status, and refund amount ready helps speed things up once you actually reach someone. Good luck with claimyr and taxr.ai! Really hoping those services work as advertised because this whole situation is exhausting. Keep us posted on your progress - we're all rooting for each other to get through this mess! 🤞
