IRS Code 810 Freeze Since February Holding $2,142 Refund - Self-Employed HOH with $40,850 AGI and EIC Showing on Transcript

I got my 2022 tax transcript and I'm concerned about a refund freeze code 810 that showed up on February 7, 2023. Looking at my transcript in detail, this freeze is preventing me from getting my refund. According to my Account Transcript from the IRS (United States Department of the Treasury), which I requested on 04-02-2023 and received response on 04-02-2023 (Tracking Number visible on the document), my account shows a balance of -$2,142.00 as of Apr. 17, 2023. The transcript clearly shows I have ACCRUED INTEREST: $0.00 and ACCRUED PENALTY: $0.00 as of Apr. 17, 2023, with an ACCOUNT BALANCE PLUS ACCRUALS of -$2,142.00. The transcript includes this information from my return: FILING STATUS: Head of Household ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME: $40,850.00 TAXABLE INCOME: $17,358.00 TAX PER RETURN: $3,132.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME TAXPAYER: $20,330.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME SPOUSE: $0.00 TOTAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX: $3,111.00 My RETURN DUE DATE OR RETURN RECEIVED DATE is listed as Apr. 15, 2023, with a PROCESSING DATE of Apr. 17, 2023. The TRANSACTIONS section shows: CODE 150 Tax return filed - CYCLE 20231305 - DATE 04-17-2023 - AMOUNT $3,132.00 CODE 810 Refund freeze - DATE 02-07-2023 - AMOUNT $0.00 CODE 766 Credit to your account - DATE 04-15-2023 - AMOUNT -$2,708.00 CODE 768 Earned income credit - DATE 04-15-2023 - AMOUNT -$2,566.00 CODE 971 Notice issued - DATE 04-17-2023 - AMOUNT $0.00 Everything seems to be processed with all my credits posting correctly (I can see the withholding credit of -$2,708.00 and my earned income credit of -$2,566.00), but this refund freeze from February is still there and I haven't received my -$2,142.00 refund. Can someone explain what this freeze code means and what I should do? Is it normal for a freeze code to appear months before the actual processing date? The document states "This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data" at both the top and bottom.

Based on your tax transcript, there are several key elements affecting your refund status. Your return shows a total tax of $3,132.00 with offsetting credits of $5,274.00 ($2,708.00 withholding credit and $2,566.00 Earned Income Credit), resulting in your expected refund of $2,142.00. The code 810 freeze placed on February 7, 2023, is preventing the release of your refund. This freeze typically indicates the IRS needs to verify either your identity or reported income, particularly common with self-employment income ($20,330.00) and Earned Income Credit claims. The code 971 notice issued on April 17, 2023, means the IRS has sent you a letter explaining what they need to resolve the freeze. This notice should have arrived in your mailbox around late April. It's important to respond promptly to any requests for documentation or verification. Your transcript shows no penalties or interest accruing ($0.00), which is positive. The return was officially processed on April 17, 2023 (cycle code 20231305), but the refund won't be released until the freeze is resolved through the verification process outlined in your notice.

The 810 freeze is usually bcuz of the earned income credit. They gotta verify everything to prevent fraud. Super annoying but hang in there!
