570 Hold Code on my 2024 tax transcript since February - What do all these dates (March 3, Mar 10, Apr 15) mean for my refund status?

I filed my taxes at the beginning of February and saw my transcript got updated with a 570 code (hold status) about 2 weeks later. It's been sitting like this for over a month now with no movement. I'm trying to figure out what all these dates actually mean on my transcript. I logged in today (03-04-2025) to check my account transcript and here's what I'm seeing: Request Date: 03-03-2025 Response Date: 03-03-2025 Tracking Number: 107577180127 My transcript shows: TAX PERIOD: Dec. 31, 2024 AS OF: Mar. 10, 2025 The "As of" date says March 10, 2025, but then there's also mentions of May 15, 2025 and April 7, 2025 scattered throughout. The hold was placed on February 20 according to the transcript. I filed jointly with my spouse, and my transcript shows some credit amounts (the negative numbers signify credits). One thing I noticed is that while the tax filing deadline is April 15, 2025, my transcript shows "RECEIVED DATE" as Mar. 03, 2025. Does anyone know what these different dates actually represent and if there's any way to tell when my refund might be processed? Starting to get really frustrated with the waiting game. Why would it show "AS OF: Mar. 10, 2025" twice on the transcript? And what's the significance of the "RECEIVED DATE" versus when I actually filed in early February?

IRS transcripts can be confusing with all the different dates. Here's what they typically mean: - "As Of" date: This is when the transcript data was last updated in the IRS system. This date can change and move forward or backward as your return is processed. - Processing date: This is when the IRS expects to complete processing your return. Often appears with the 570 code. - Cycle date: Indicates which processing cycle your return is in (usually shown as a cycle code). The 570 hold code means they're reviewing something on your return. This could be identity verification, income verification, or they're checking something specific on your return. It doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong. Typically, you'll see code 571 (resolved) followed by 846 (refund issued) when the hold is lifted. The waiting game is frustrating, but most 570 holds resolve within 4-8 weeks. Check your transcript weekly for updates. If you want a really detailed breakdown of your transcript with explanations of all the codes and dates, you should try taxr.ai - it analyzes everything and explains exactly what's happening with your return in plain English. Way better than trying to decode it yourself.

I checked my transcript and have had that same 570 code for almost 2 months now. Did you ever call the IRS? I'm losing my mind waiting.

Calling the IRS is usually a waste of time with these 570 codes unless it's been more than 8 weeks. They'll just tell you it's under review and to keep waiting. But if you really need to talk to someone, use claimyr.com - it got me through to an agent in about 30 minutes when I was dealing with a similar issue last year.

Thanks, I might try that. I've been trying to call for weeks but can never get through to a human.

What exactly is the taxr site? Does it cost money or is it free? I'm in the same boet with a 570 code since February.

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It's seriously a game changer. It doesn't just read the transcript - it analyzes everything, explains what each code means for YOUR specific situation, and gives you a timeline of what's happening. Saved me hours of googling and stress. It also shows what's likely to happen next based on patterns from similar returns. Completely worth checking out if you're stuck in IRS limbo like I was.

I just tried taxr.ai and oh my god where has this been all my life?! It explained everything that was happening with my return, way beyond what I could figure out on my own. If youre staring at transcript codes trying to decode them like some kind of tax detective, STOP and just use this tool. It literally showed me exactly why my refund was held up and when it would likely be released. Best decision I've made during this whole tax season nightmare!

I was stuck with a 570 code for weeks and was going crazy checking WMR every day. I finally used taxr.ai and it was insanely helpful - explained everything that was happening with my return in plain English. It actually showed me exactly why my refund was on hold and gave me a timeline for when it would likely be released based on my specific situation. It's like having a tax pro look at your transcript but way more detailed. https://taxr.ai saved me so much stress trying to figure out all those codes and dates.

I was skeptical too but it's actually legit. I've been dealing with IRS issues for three tax seasons now and this is the first tool that actually made sense of my transcript. No more guessing what all those codes and dates mean.

You just upload your transcript that you already downloaded from the IRS. It just reads what's already there and explains it - super straightforward. It's not like those sites that ask for your SSN and all that.

Just tried it and WOW. It literally told me exactly why my refund was delayed (something about a math error they found) and gave me an estimated resolution date. This would have saved me so much anxiety if I'd found it sooner!

After dealing with a 570 code for over a month and getting nowhere, I found a way to actually talk to a human at the IRS! Used this calling service at claimyr.com that got me a callback from an actual IRS agent within 45 minutes. The agent explained that there was an income verification issue with my return that was causing the hold. They were able to resolve it while I was on the phone, and my 570 code was released two days later. Talking to an agent directly saved me weeks of more waiting. Definitely worth it if you're stuck in limbo with these hold codes.

100% works. I was super skeptical but was desperate after spending literally hours on hold multiple days in a row. The IRS agent called me back and actually fixed my issue right there on the phone.

I mean, after wasting 5+ hours trying to call them myself and missing work, it was the best money I've ever spent to finally get my questions answered. My refund was for thousands of dollars so getting it unstuck was worth every penny.

I tried it too! Got a live agent in about 30 minutes after trying for WEEKS on my own. The agent saw I had a simple verification issue and fixed it right away. My refund was deposited 5 days later. Talking to an agent was literally the only way I could resolve my issue.

The "as of" date is the most misleading thing on the transcript. Mine kept changing from March 1 to April 5 and back again for weeks. Complete waste of time to read anything into that date changing. The only thing that matters is when you see code 846 for your refund.

THIS!!! 👆 The as of date is just a system date and doesn't really tell you anything useful. It'll drive you crazy watching it bounce around.

For real. Last year my as of date changed like 6 times and it meant absolutely nothing. My refund randomly showed up one day without any rhyme or reason to those dates.

Do you have any credits on your return like EIC or Child Tax Credit? Those typically get extra scrutiny and can trigger 570 holds for verification. If that's the case, it could take up to 8 weeks from when you filed to get your refund. The IRS is especially slow this year with all the tax law changes.

God the IRS is such a disaster. I've been waiting since January with a 570 code and no explanation. When I finally got through to someone on the phone after HOURS of waiting, they couldn't even tell me why my return was being held. Just "it's under review" 🤡

Same boat. I'm convinced they just randomly select returns to delay for no reason. It's all a big scam to hold our money longer.

Exactly. They're quick to take our money but slow af to give refunds. Meanwhile we're all struggling to pay bills while they sit on our cash 🙄

Check if you have any letter from the IRS in the mail. Sometimes they need additional verification but the letter gets lost or delayed. They won't process your return until you respond to whatever they're asking for.

-

Miguel Castro

I haven't received anything in the mail yet. Does the transcript usually indicate if they sent a letter? Is there a code for that?

0 coins

-

Chloe Taylor

Usually there's a 971 code if they sent a notice. If you don't see that, probably no letter was sent. But sometimes the IRS systems don't talk to each other well so it's worth checking your IRS online account too.

have you checked your account transcript too? sometimes theres additional info there that doesn't show up on the return transcript. also check your wage & income transcript to make sure everything matches what you reported.

I had the exact same situation with a 570 code that sat for weeks. Turned out I had made a small math error on my return (I transposed two numbers on a 1099). The IRS fixed it automatically but the review process took about 6 weeks. Just hang tight - unless you see a 420 audit code, it's probably just normal processing delays.

0 coins

-

Miguel Castro

That's reassuring. Did your transcript update with any other codes before you got your refund or did it just go straight from 570 to the refund code?

Mine went from 570 to 571 (hold released) then 846 (refund issued) all on the same day. Didn't see any updates for weeks and then suddenly everything happened at once.

This whole system is rigged. The IRS can charge us interest and penalties if we're late but they can hold our refunds for months with zero consequences. Absolute clown show.

FACTS 💯 They'll fine us $50 for being a day late but can sit on our money for 6 months and be like "sorry about that here's your money with no interest lol"

If your transcript has a 570 code without a 971 code, it usually means it's just a general review and not something specific they're asking you for. In my experience, these usually resolve on their own within 4-6 weeks. It's annoying but usually nothing to worry about.

Aisha Rahman

I'm an accountant and see 570 codes frequently with my clients. It's basically the IRS's way of saying "we need more time to look at this." Common reasons: income verification (they're matching your W2s/1099s), credit eligibility verification, or math error checks. Most resolve automatically without any action needed from you.

0 coins

-

CosmicCrusader

Is there anything we can do to speed up the process? Or just wait it out?

0 coins

-

Aisha Rahman

Unfortunately waiting is usually the only option unless it's been more than 8 weeks. After that time frame, calling can sometimes help move things along if it's stuck in the system. But before 8 weeks, they'll just tell you to keep waiting.

I went through this last year. The best resource I found was actually looking up the IRS Internal Revenue Manual online - it explains what all the codes actually mean internally. According to that, 570 is a generic hold that can be triggered by dozens of different things. Most resolve automatically.

-

Miguel Castro

Thanks, I'll try to find that manual. Do you remember where you found it?

UGH I HATE THE IRS SO MUCH. I'm in the exact same situation - 570 code since February. Called them multiple times and get a different answer every time. One agent says there's nothing wrong with my return and it's just delayed processing. Next one says there's a review. Third one says there's no review but they're just backed up. WHICH IS IT??? 😤

My partner just went through this same thing. Had a 570 hold for almost 2 months. When we finally got through to someone at the IRS (used claimyr.com after wasting hours trying to call), turns out they needed to verify her identity because she had moved since her last tax filing. The agent was able to verify everything during the call and her refund was issued the following week. Sometimes just talking to a human is the only way to get unstuck.

About 8 days. Her transcript updated with code 571 (hold released) and 846 (refund issued) on the same day, about a week after the call.

The dates on IRS transcripts are incredibly confusing. After dealing with this for years, I finally found a tool that makes sense of everything - taxr.ai analyzes your entire transcript and explains each code, date, and what's actually happening with your return. It even predicts when you'll likely get your refund based on similar cases. Saved me so much time and stress from trying to figure it all out myself!

Just checked it out - wow this is actually super helpful. It explained my 570 code was because of an income verification issue (one of my 1099s had a slight discrepancy). Wish I'd found this weeks ago instead of stressing!
