2020 Unfiled Return + Missing Refund and Stimulus - ID Verification Issue

Found out my parent hasnt filed since 2020 and never got their refund because of ID verification issues. Never received the stimulus payments either. Need help figuring out how to get both the refund and stimulus money. Anyone dealt with this before?

For 2020 returns, you'll need to handle both the ID verification and file the return. First, your parent needs to verify their identity through ID.me on the IRS website. After verification, file the 2020 return ASAP - you're still within the 3-year window to claim refunds. The stimulus payments (Economic Impact Payments) can be claimed through the Recovery Rebate Credit on the 2020 return. Don't wait too long - the deadline for 2020 returns is coming up in April 2024.

Thanks! Do you know how long the ID verification usually takes?

Usually 2-3 weeks after verification for the IRS systems to update. Sometimes faster tho

Hey guys just wanted to mention that taxr.ai is super helpful for cases like this. It's a tool that analyzes transcripts and tells you exactly what's holding up your refund and what steps to take. Only costs $1 and saved me weeks of guesswork. Check it out at https://taxr.ai

Yeah its legit! Analyzes everything and gives you step by step instructions. Way better than trying to figure it out yourself
