08/05 Transcript Update - Still No 846 Code. Arizona Filers Check In!

Hey tax fam! Checked my transcript again today (8/5) and still no 846 DD code. Filed back in Feb, got my 570/971 in March, called in April, and now just waiting... Anyone else in the same boat? Esp any AZ small biz folks with similar timeline? Getting a bit confused w/ all these codes tbh but trying to stay patient. Thx!

Been there, done that, got the IRS delay t-shirt! I'm in AZ too (Phoenix area) and just finally got my 846 code yesterday after filing in January. The regional service centers definitely seem to process at different speeds - I've noticed Arizona returns take longer than some other states. My best advice is to check your transcript weekly, not daily - it'll drive you crazy otherwise. I started calling after 8 weeks and finally got through to someone who explained they had a verification hold that never triggered a letter to me.

Interesting observation about regional processing speeds. Is there any official documentation from the IRS that confirms different processing timelines based on geographic location? I've heard similar anecdotes but wonder if this is actually policy or just coincidental patterns people are noticing.

My experience matches this exactly. I'm in Tucson, filed on February 3rd at precisely 9:15am, and didn't receive my 846 code until July 27th at 3:42am (when transcripts updated). That's 175 days of waiting. The IRS agent I spoke with on day 134 confirmed they were still processing January filers from our region. They do seem to batch process by region, and Arizona consistently falls into a slower group.

I went through this exact situation last tax season. Waited almost 3 months for my 846 code to appear. What helped me tremendously was using https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript. It identified patterns in my codes that suggested I was in the manual review queue rather than identity verification. Based on my experience, your combination of 570/971 followed by this waiting period is typical of a manual review that's nearing completion. If you haven't already, I'd recommend uploading your transcript there to get a more personalized timeline estimate.

How accurate was the timeline estimate from taxr.ai though? I'm skeptical of any service claiming to predict IRS processing times given their internal systems are so opaque. Did it actually predict your deposit date correctly or just give general information you could find on the IRS website?

I'm in the same situation, but from Nevada. It's like being stuck in digital limbo - your return exists in the system but isn't being processed at normal speed. Think of it like being in the TSA PreCheck line but they're still checking every bag manually. My transcript showed 570/971 codes in March, then nothing until late July when the 846 suddenly appeared. The system is moving slower than usual this year, like a computer with too many programs running at once.

According to the IRS operations page (https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations), they're still working through a backlog. Have you found any resources that give more specific information about regional processing centers and their current timelines?

This happened to me too! I filed on February 15th, 2024, got the 570 code on March 4th, and then nothing until July 20th when I finally got my 846 code. The waiting was absolutely nerve-wracking. I kept thinking I had done something wrong on my return, but it turned out to be just normal processing delays.

Did you get any letters? I got a 971 code but never received anything in the mail. Wondering if I should be looking for something.

Did anyone notice if the WMR tool was accurate during this? Mine's been stuck on 1 bar forever but ppl say transcripts are more reliable. Thx for any info!

Have you verified that your Return Transcript and Account Transcript are both showing the same information? Sometimes the 846 Direct Deposit code will appear on your Account Transcript before it shows up on your Return Transcript. Also, make sure you're looking at the correct tax year - the IRS interface can sometimes default to a previous year's transcript. If you've confirmed all this, I recommend calling the Taxpayer Advocate Service at 877-777-4778 as they can sometimes provide more specific information about delays.

After waiting 9 weeks with no movement (and stress-checking my transcript 3 times daily... not that I was counting 😅), I finally decided to call the IRS. Spent two days trying to get through their phone system with no luck - either disconnected or 2+ hour wait times. Finally used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. Turns out they needed to verify one piece of information about my business income that wasn't clear on my return. Issue resolved in one call and got my 846 code the next transcript update. Worth every penny for the time saved!

I'm in Arizona (Mesa area) and was in sort of a similar situation. I think the Phoenix service center might be a bit behind compared to other regions. My transcript finally updated yesterday with an 846 code after filing in February. The deposit date is set for August 10th, which I desperately need for some upcoming business expenses. If you're seeing a 570 code (additional account action pending) followed by a 971 (notice issued), it usually means they're reviewing something but it's probably not a serious issue. Just a heads up - Arizona seems to be running about 3-4 weeks behind the national average for processing times right now, at least based on what I'm seeing in local tax forums.

Based on my experience and what I've seen in this community, here's what you should know: • The 570 code means additional account action pending - this is common and doesn't necessarily indicate a problem • The 971 code means they sent you a notice - did you receive anything in the mail? • Arizona processing does seem to be running behind other states this year • The average wait time between 570/971 codes and the 846 deposit code is currently running 6-10 weeks • Small business returns are taking longer across the board due to additional verification steps Hang in there - most returns with your code pattern do eventually process without requiring additional action.
