Got 846 code for May 22nd but stuck on PATH - when to expect $$$?

Hey tax fam! Just checked my transcript and got the 846 code w/ a DDD for May 22nd. Super happy but still showing on PATH act verification. Been waiting since Feb (claimed EIC). Anyone know if the $ will actually hit on the 22nd or could there be more delays? This is my 2nd yr filing in US and need the refund for some bills asap. TY for any help!

The 846 code with a direct deposit date is generally a good sign, though it's possible you might see the deposit a day or two before or after the 22nd, depending on your bank. Since you've already received the 846 code, the PATH Act verification should no longer be an issue for your refund, as that code indicates the IRS has completed processing your return and scheduled your refund. Banks sometimes process these deposits early, but I wouldn't count on it until at least the 21st or 22nd.

Thank you for clarifying this! Per IRS Publication 1345, the 846 code is indeed the final stage before disbursement. I've been worried about the PATH Act holding things up even after getting a DDD.

This is exactly what I needed to hear. Let me walk through my understanding to make sure I've got it right: 1. 846 code means refund is approved and scheduled 2. PATH Act verification is complete once 846 appears 3. The date shown is when IRS sends the money, not necessarily when my bank posts it 4. Some banks process early, others might take an extra day That helps calm my nerves quite a bit!

I had this exact situation last month. Got my 846 code on April 13th with a DDD of April 18th. The IRS Where's My Refund tool (https://www.irs.gov/refunds) updated to show "refund approved" the next day. Money actually hit my account early on the 17th! Worth checking WMR daily now that you have the 846 code.

I went through this exact scenario last year. Had the 846 code with a date of May 18th, but was confused about whether PATH would hold it up longer. I used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it explained that the 846 code trumps PATH Act verification - meaning your money is definitely coming! The system showed me exactly what each code on my transcript meant and confirmed my DDD was accurate. In my case, the money actually hit my account a day early on the 17th.

Is this service really worth it? The IRS website already tells you what the codes mean for free.

Does taxr.ai actually predict when the money will hit your account? My transcript shows exactly 3 different dates - a process date of May 15, the 846 code date of May 22, and a cycle date of 20231805. Not sure which one matters most.

This is super helpful! I've been staring at my transcript trying to make sense of all the different dates and codes. Will definitely check out taxr.ai to help translate what I'm looking at.

Looking at your situation compared to others I've seen this season, you're actually in great shape! Once you have the 846 code with a specific date, you're past the PATH Act verification. Unlike returns still showing "processing" or with 570/971 codes, yours is fully approved. Just be sure your direct deposit info is correct - that's the #1 cause of delays at this final stage.

I work with tax preparation, and I can confirm this technical assessment. The PATH Act verification occurs during the processing phase, before the 846 Refund Issued code appears. The IRS system operates on a sequential validation protocol - once you reach code 846, you've cleared all verification hurdles including PATH. Your banking institution's ACH processing time is now the only variable.

Have you tried calling the IRS to confirm everything is good to go? We all know how impossible it is to get through their regular line, right? After spending days trying to reach someone about my 846 code situation, I used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. Wouldn't it be worth the peace of mind to confirm there are no other holds on your account before the 22nd? The agent I spoke with confirmed my deposit was on schedule and explained exactly when it would hit my bank.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think I might be in a similar situation... Does your Where's My Refund tool match what your transcript shows? Mine has different information and I'm wondering if that's normal or if I should be concerned?

Just got my refund yesterday after having the EXACT same situation! Had 846 code dated May 15th while still showing PATH verification on WMR. Money hit my account right on the 15th as scheduled. The PATH message is just a system lag - they forget to update that part sometimes. 😂 Don't stress, your money is coming! Set your alarm for the 22nd and prepare for a slightly better bank balance that morning!

Check your bank account tomorrow. IRS often sends early. Sometimes two days before the date. Seen it happen many times. Also verify your bank info is correct on your return. Wrong routing numbers cause major delays. No guarantees though.
