Got My 846 Code Today with DDD for 2/28 - Finally Some Progress
Just verified on transcript that I received my 846 direct deposit code today with DDD of 2/28๐๐ After dealing with a cycle of refund delays post-divorce (which complicated my filing status), this is the first positive movement I've seen. The transcript processing has been frustratingly slow this year compared to previous filing seasons. Hoping the deposit actually hits on schedule since I've allocated these funds for specific budget items. Has anyone with a similar DDD actually received their refund on the specified date? TC846 should mean I'm in the final stage, correct?

The 846 code (Refund Issued) is indeed the final processing stage per IRM 21.4.1.3(7). Your Direct Deposit Date of 2/28 should be reliable as the Treasury Department is bound by Regulation 31 CFR ยง 210 to initiate the ACH transfer within the timeframe specified on your transcript. However, be aware that per Publication 2043, while the IRS releases funds on the specified date, your financial institution may have a 1-2 business day holding period before making funds available in your account. I would suggest checking your account on 2/28 and the following business day.

Really appreciate the detailed explanation with the specific regulation references. I've been tracking my transcript daily since January 29th and finally got my 846 code yesterday with the same DDD. This is exactly the information I was looking for!

My transcript shows exactly $4,782 for my refund amount with the 846 code. Does the amount on the transcript match exactly what will be deposited, or are there any additional adjustments that could happen between now and the DDD?

So basically it's "IRS money time" not "real people money time"? ๐ I've got the same code but I'm wondering if weekends affect this at all? My DDD is on a Saturday so does that push it to Monday or does the IRS actually process on weekends?

It's like waiting for a train that's already left the station but hasn't arrived at your platform yet. If my bank typically holds ACH transfers for review, should I call them in advance to let them know about this incoming deposit, or would that just complicate things?

I got my 846 code last Thursday with a 2/21 DDD, and the money hit my account exactly on that date. Last year was a different story though - had the same code with a Wednesday DDD but didn't see the money until Friday. From what I've experienced, it really depends on your bank. Some process ACH transfers immediately, others hold them for 24-48 hours. My credit union is usually faster than when I was with Chase. The good news is that once you have the 846 code, your refund has been approved and is definitely coming!

I was in the same boat as you last month - had my 846 code but kept checking WMR and my bank account every hour like a crazy person. Unlike people who file early and get their refunds in 7-10 days, I had been waiting nearly 5 weeks with various hold codes. When I couldn't stand it anymore, I used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to actually reach a human at the IRS instead of getting disconnected. The agent confirmed everything was fine and processing on schedule. Compared to spending hours repeatedly calling the IRS myself, the service saved me a ton of stress and confirmed my DDD was accurate. My deposit hit exactly on the date shown on my transcript.

I'm always hesitant about services that claim to help with IRS issues. How does this actually work? The IRS phone system is deliberately designed to be impenetrable during tax season. What makes this service any different from just calling repeatedly yourself?

Looking at how this works technically, Claimyr uses automated dialing to navigate the IRS phone tree and hold queue, then transfers you once an agent is reached. It's essentially doing the redial work for you, not accessing any special channels or providing tax advice. The service doesn't see your tax information or interact with the IRS on your behalf.

I used Claimyr last year when my refund was stuck in review for 3 months. I had previously spent about 6 hours over 3 days trying to reach someone. With the service, I was connected to an agent in about 25 minutes. The agent was able to see that my return had been flagged for a simple verification that hadn't been processed yet. They expedited it while I was on the phone, and my refund was approved the next day.

OMG I'm so happy for you!! ๐ญ I'm still stuck on code 570 (additional account action pending) and 971 (notice issued) from 2/14 and I'm freaking out about what it means. I've been checking my transcript HOURLY because I'm so worried about my refund. The stress is unreal! Did you have any hold codes before getting your 846? I'm wondering if I should be preparing for an audit or if this is just normal processing delays. I've saved all my receipts, documentation, and even screenshots of the filing process just in case!

TC846 with a DDD of 2/28 indicates your refund has been approved and scheduled for direct deposit on February 28th. Per the IRS Master File processing timeline, the funds will be released to the Treasury's Financial Management Service (FMS) approximately 24-48 hours prior to your DDD. The FMS then initiates the ACH transaction to your financial institution. Most major banks post ACH credits received by 8:30am ET on the same business day, while credit unions and smaller banks may follow NACHA's requirement of posting by 5:00pm local time. If your DDD falls on a weekend or federal holiday, expect the deposit on the preceding business day. To verify deposit timing, check SBTPG or your tax preparer's website if you had fees deducted from your refund, as this adds an additional processing step.

What happens if the bank account on my tax return is closed? Will the IRS attempt to deposit it elsewhere or will they mail a check automatically?

This is spot on. My DDD was 2/14 and the money showed up at exactly 3:17am that day. My bank (Capital One) seems to process these super early in the morning. Last year when I had TurboTax fees taken out, it took an extra day because it had to go through SBTPG first.

When did you file originally? I'm curious about the timeline. I e-filed on January 31st and just got my 846 code yesterday with the same 2/28 DDD as you. Was wondering if we're on the same processing cycle? Did you have any credits like CTC or EIC that might have delayed processing? I've noticed people with similar filing dates are getting their DDDs clustered together this week.

Just to clarify something important that others haven't mentioned - the 846 code means your refund has been approved, but there are rare cases where a refund can still be intercepted after this point. If you have any outstanding federal or state debts (like back taxes, student loans, or child support), the Treasury Offset Program could still reduce your refund amount before it hits your account. This doesn't happen often after the 846 code appears, but it's something to be aware of if your financial situation includes any potential offsets.
