Missed biweekly DEO claim filing date - account now saying file new claim?
I completely messed up my claim filing schedule and now I'm panicking! I thought I knew exactly when to file my biweekly claim but then CONNECT was down for maintenance the day I tried to log in. When I finally got back in yesterday, the system is telling me I need to file a brand new claim instead of just claiming weeks?? I was only 4 months into my benefit year and had plenty of benefits remaining. When I tried starting the new claim application, the website froze halfway through and kicked me out. Now I'm stuck in limbo and can't get through on the phone lines (keep getting busy signals or automatic disconnects). Has anyone dealt with missing a biweekly filing deadline? Do they really terminate your entire claim if you miss one filing period? This seems extreme when it was partly because their website was down for maintenance! Any advice on fixing this without having to start the whole process over again?

Unfortunately, yes - if you miss claiming your weeks during your scheduled time period, your claim can be flagged as "abandoned" in the CONNECT system. The DEO is incredibly strict about this, even when their system is down for maintenance. You have about 14 days to claim your weeks after they become available, and if you miss that window, the system often forces you to file a new claim. You have two options: 1) Complete the new application process (I know, it's frustrating to start over) 2) Try to reach a DEO agent who might be able to reset your claim status Option 2 is definitely worth trying first. If you can get through to someone, explain that you attempted to claim during the maintenance period and they might be able to reactivate your existing claim without starting over.

•Thank you for explaining! I had no idea they'd consider my claim "abandoned" after just missing one filing period. That seems so harsh. I'll definitely try to reach someone first before restarting the application. Any tips on best days/times to call? I've been trying all morning with no luck.

•Oh no, 6 weeks?? I can't go that long without benefits. This is terrifying. Did you ever get backpay for the weeks you missed during that gap?

I work with unemployment claims regularly, and I want to clarify something important here. Missing your biweekly claim filing doesn't automatically terminate your entire benefit year - it just means you won't receive benefits for those specific weeks you failed to claim. However, if the system is telling you to file a new claim, one of these things might be happening: 1. Your claim actually expired (benefit years last exactly 12 months from filing date) 2. There's a system glitch confusing your status 3. You've gone too many consecutive weeks without claiming (usually 4+ weeks) The fact that the system went down during your filing window actually gives you grounds for appeal if they try to deny backpayment. Make sure to document everything - screenshots of error messages, dates/times you tried accessing the system, etc. You absolutely need to speak with a DEO agent to resolve this correctly. They can look at your specific claim status and take appropriate action.

•Thank you for this detailed explanation! I'm positive my benefit year didn't expire - I just started receiving benefits in April 2025. It must be either the system glitch or the consecutive weeks issue. I did claim my previous weeks on time, so I'm not sure why it would think I missed multiple consecutive periods. This is so confusing.

THE CONNECT SYSTEM IS LITERALLY DESIGNED TO MAKE PEOPLE FAIL!!!! They do these "maintenance" shutdowns strategically during high claim periods and then blame US when we can't file on time. I've had THREE claims terminated because of their stupid system errors. Then you call and call and CALL and no one EVER answers. It's a deliberate strategy to reduce how much they pay out. I'm FURIOUS for you and everyone else dealing with this garbage system.

•Omg yes!!! I thought I was the only one who noticed this!! The maintenance ALWAYS happens right when most people need to claim!

Have you tried using Claimyr? I was in a similar situation last month - couldn't file my weeks because of a PIN reset issue, then got the "file new claim" message. I spent DAYS trying to get through to DEO with no luck. Then someone here recommended Claimyr (claimyr.com) - it's a service that helps you skip the phone queue. You still talk directly with actual DEO agents, but Claimyr gets you through all the busy signals and holds. Worked for me - the agent was able to reactivate my existing claim without having to start over. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj Definitely worth it to avoid restarting the whole application process and waiting potentially weeks for a new claim to process.

•I've never heard of this but I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point! Was it hard to use? I just want to talk to an actual person who can fix this without making me start from scratch.

Not hard at all - you just enter your phone number and they call you back when they've secured a place in line with an agent. Then I just explained my situation to the DEO person. The agent I spoke with said this happens all the time with system maintenance and was able to reactivate my claim status in about 10 minutes. Way better than starting over!

•I tried Claimyr too when my claim got stuck in adjudication for months. Got through to someone in about 30 min when I'd been trying for weeks on my own with no luck. DEO's phone system is basically useless without some kind of bypass.

To answer your earlier question about best times to call - DEO's phone lines are typically least busy right when they open at 7:30am Monday-Friday. Fridays tend to be slightly better than Mondays or Tuesdays (which are the worst). Just be prepared that even with perfect timing, you might still encounter busy signals or disconnections. The DEO phone system is notoriously overwhelmed. If you do reach an agent, here are the exact terms to use: - Explain you attempted to claim during your correct window but encountered a system maintenance issue - Ask them to check if they can "reactivate your current benefit year" or "remove the abandoned claim status" - Request "claim week reversion" to allow you to claim the missed weeks Using their terminology can sometimes help move things along faster. Good luck!

•Thank you so much for these specific terms to use! I'll try calling right at 7:30 tomorrow morning. If that doesn't work, I might try that Claimyr service someone else mentioned just to get this resolved. Really appreciate everyone's help!

One final note - if you do end up having to file a new claim application, make sure to answer the question about whether you've filed for benefits in the last 12 months as "Yes." This helps link your new claim to your previous one in their system. Also, when you get to the employment history section, try to enter your work history EXACTLY as you did in your original claim (same employer names, dates, etc). This helps their system recognize it's the same person and can sometimes speed up processing.

•This is assuming the garbage CONNECT system even LETS you complete an application without crashing 17 times!! I had to try FIVE SEPARATE TIMES to complete my application because it kept freezing at different points!

UPDATE: I got through to DEO! Used that Claimyr service after failing to get through on my own this morning. The agent confirmed what many of you said - my claim wasn't actually terminated, but was flagged as "inactive" due to missing the filing window. She was able to reactivate my existing claim and set up my account so I could claim my missed weeks! No need to file a new application after all. Such a relief. Thanks everyone for your help and advice - would have been completely lost without this forum.

•That's fantastic news! So glad you got it resolved without having to start a new claim. This is exactly why speaking to an actual agent is so important with these issues - the online system often presents generic "solutions" that aren't actually necessary. Thanks for updating us!
