DEO work search requirement deadline extension? July 4 deadline approaching
I've been submitting my work search activities like clockwork each week, but I heard someone mention that the DEO might be extending the deadline for entering job search activities. The current deadline for my claim week is July 4th (of course it had to fall on a holiday 🙄). Has anyone received any official notice about this from DEO? I'm worried about losing benefits if I miss the deadline, but I'm also traveling to visit family for the holiday weekend and might not have reliable internet access. Just wondering if I need to scramble to get everything submitted early or if there's actually an extension coming.

•Same!!! The timing is so annoying with the holiday. I called DEO three times about this and got disconnected EVERY SINGLE TIME. If they're extending it they should tell people!!!

I haven't seen any official announcements about extending the work search reporting deadline. In Florida, you still need to report 5 work search contacts per week unless you have a waiver. The deadline is typically fixed based on your claim schedule, regardless of holidays. If July 4th is your reporting deadline, I would strongly recommend completing it before you travel. DEO doesn't usually extend these deadlines automatically for holidays - you're expected to plan accordingly. Better safe than sorry with your benefits!

•Thanks for the info. That's what I was afraid of. I'll just make sure to get everything entered by July 3rd then. I just wish they'd make accommodations for major holidays. Makes me wonder if someone at DEO purposely designs the system to trip people up... 🤔

This isnt the first time the DEO has scheduled important deadlines on holidays. They did the SAME THING with New Years AND Memorial Day too!! I think they do it ON PURPOSE to reduce how many claims they have to pay out. The whole system is designed to be impossible to navigate. Did you know they STILL have people waiting in adjudication from MONTHS ago???

•While I understand the frustration, I don't think the deadlines are deliberately set on holidays. The claim weeks are typically assigned based on when you initially filed, creating a biweekly reporting schedule. It's definitely inconvenient when it falls on a holiday, but it's more likely a system limitation than deliberate sabotage. For the original question - I checked the DEO website this morning and didn't see any announcements about deadline extensions for July 4th. Their offices will be closed for the holiday, but the CONNECT system should still be available for reporting. Just make sure to complete it before midnight on your deadline date to avoid any issues with your benefits.

After dealing with the DEO system for months, I've found that trying to reach someone directly about deadline questions is actually possible if you use Claimyr. I was in a similar situation with a Memorial Day deadline and needed clarification. Regular DEO line kept disconnecting me, but Claimyr got me through to an actual agent who confirmed no extensions were available. Saved me from missing my deadline! Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj. Worth it when you need answers quickly about deadline questions.

•Yes, that's what I've decided to do. Was just hoping there might be an official extension since it's a major holiday.

I called DEO this morning and FINALLY got through after trying for 2 hours!!! The person I spoke with said there is NO extension for July 4th deadlines. She said the CONNECT system will still be accepting work search entries on the holiday even though their offices are closed. So we still have to meet the regular deadline. She also warned me that sometimes the system gets slow when too many people try to log in at the last minute, so better to do it early!!!

•Thank you so much for calling and sharing this info! That confirms what everyone's been saying. I'll definitely get mine done before the holiday weekend.

wait i'm confused about something else - are we supposed to do 5 job searches or 3? I thought it was 3 but someone at CareerSource told me 5???

•It's 5 work search activities per week for regular state Reemployment Assistance in Florida. This changed a while back - it used to be 3 but it's definitely 5 now. The only exceptions would be if you have a work search waiver, are in approved training, or work with CareerSource on a specific reemployment plan. Hope that helps clarify!

Just a heads-up for everyone: I've been claiming benefits for several months now, and in my experience, the CONNECT system does occasionally have maintenance or slowdowns around holidays. Even though there's no official extension, I would recommend completing your work search reports at least 48 hours before your deadline if it falls on July 4th. This gives you buffer time in case of any technical issues. Also, take screenshots of your submission confirmation page as proof just in case questions come up later. Better to be prepared than have to deal with appeals!
