DEO claim stuck since January 2025 - facing utility shutoff, can't reach anyone!
I filed my regular unemployment claim back in January 2025 and it's been showing 'Under Review' for almost 3 months now! Every time I log into CONNECT it just says the same thing with no updates or explanation. I've called the DEO hotline literally 47 times (yes, I counted) and either get disconnected or the automated system tells me all agents are busy. I've completely drained my emergency savings and now I've got final notices from both electric and water companies threatening shutoff next week. I'm seriously about to have a breakdown. Has anyone dealt with a claim being stuck this long? Is there ANYTHING I can do? I worked for the same hotel for 7 years before they downsized - I don't understand why my claim is taking so long!

•It's absolutely ridiculous! Have you found ANY way to get through to an actual person? I've sent emails, left messages, everything.

I had the exact same issue earlier this year and finally got it resolved. Most likely your claim is stuck in adjudication, which means there's some issue they need to verify. Unfortunately, it won't move forward until you speak with a DEO agent who can see what the specific flag on your account is. There are a few things you can try: 1. Call right when they open at 7:30am Monday-Friday 2. Contact your state representative's office - they can sometimes help push claims through 3. Try the 'Ask DEO' form on the website, but be very specific about your situation 4. Check if there are any fact-finding questions in your CONNECT inbox you might have missed The most important thing is getting someone on the phone who can actually see why your claim is flagged. Once I reached someone, they told me my claim was held up because my employer contested it, but no one had bothered to notify me!

•Thank you for these tips! I've checked my CONNECT inbox repeatedly and there's nothing there. I've tried calling early but still no luck - they just put me in the same queue that never goes anywhere. I'll try contacting my state rep tomorrow. Did it take a long time after you reached someone for your payments to actually come through?

I was in ur same position last month & was about 2 lose my apartment! After 2 months of trying to call DEO i finaly used this service called Claimyr that got me through to a DEO agent in like 20 min after struggling for weeks!!!! It seriously saved my sanity. They have this system that keeps calling DEO for u until it gets thru & then calls u when they have an agent. Check out their demo video here: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj or just go to claimyr.com The agent told me my claim was flagged bcuz my employer said I quit (I DIDNT!!!) and she was able to push it to an adjudicator while I was on the phone. Got my payments 3 days later with all back pay!

•Thank you!! At this point I'm desperate enough to try anything. Just watched the demo and I'm signing up now. I've been trying to guess what's wrong with my claim but without talking to someone it's impossible to know. Fingers crossed this works because I literally have 5 days before my utilities get shut off.

I'm really sorry you're going through this. It's unfortunately very common with DEO claims. One thing to check - when you look at your claim status in CONNECT, do you see any pending issues listed? Sometimes there's a specific reason shown, like "employment separation" or "ability and availability" that can give you a clue about what's holding things up. Also, while your claim is being processed, you should still be claiming your weeks every two weeks even though you're not getting paid yet. If you miss claiming weeks, you could lose those payments even after your claim is approved. As for your utilities, many companies have emergency assistance programs. Call them directly and explain your situation - they often have hardship programs that can give you an extension or payment plan. Also check with your local Community Action Agency as they sometimes have emergency funds specifically for utility bills.

•Thank you for the advice. When I check my account there are no pending issues listed - just shows "Under Review." And yes, I've been diligently claiming my weeks every two weeks! I'm going to call the utility companies today and see if they have hardship programs. At this point I need all the help I can get.

When this happened to me the problem was my identity verification with ID.me wasn't properly linking to my CONNECT account even though I completed it. Have you done the ID.me verification? Sometimes there's a technical glitch where it doesn't show as completed on DEO's end even when you've done everything right.

•Yes, I completed the ID.me verification the same day I applied. It showed as completed on my end, but maybe that could be the issue? It's so frustrating not knowing what's wrong!

Their so called "under review" status is BULL****! My claim was stuck like that for 10 weeks before I finally got through to someone who told me it was actually a simple wage verification issue they could have fixed in 5 MINUTES!!!! The whole system is designed to make people give up. KEEP FIGHTING! The moment you actually talk to someone your problem will probably be fixed in minutes. Its criminal how they treat us!!!!

•You're right about it being designed to make people give up. I've heard that DEO actually has quotas for denying claims to keep their numbers low. It's all politics. They save money by making the system impossible to navigate.

•Yes I've tried that one too! It just routes to the same queue as the main number and I never get through. It's like they've set up a maze with no exit.

Just to update you - after seeing your situation, I asked some friends who went through similar issues. Someone mentioned that if you're facing utility disconnection, you should document this with copies of the shutoff notices. If you do manage to get through to DEO (hopefully with the service someone mentioned or through your state rep), make sure to tell them it's an emergency hardship situation with imminent utility disconnection. They sometimes have a way to expedite claims in true hardship situations. Also, once you do get through, ask them to notate your account about the hardship and request expedited processing. The magic words seem to be "economic hardship" and "imminent loss of essential services."

•This is extremely helpful! I'm going to scan my shutoff notices right now so I have them ready. I just signed up for that Claimyr service and am waiting for their callback. Will definitely mention the economic hardship and use those exact phrases. Thank you so much for following up!

I used Claimyr too after being stuck for 2 months and it worked! Once I got someone on the phone, my claim was sorted out within a week. My case was similar - stuck in review with no explanation. Turns out there was a discrepancy between what I reported as my last day of work and what my employer reported. The DEO agent was able to fix it right away once I actually reached someone. Hope it works out for you!

•That's encouraging to hear! I'm hoping it's something simple like that for me too. Just waiting for the callback now. Did they release all your back pay at once when they fixed it?

UPDATE: I finally got through to DEO!!! The Claimyr service actually worked - took about 35 minutes but I finally spoke to a real person. Turns out my employer had contested my claim saying I was fired for misconduct (absolutely not true - I was laid off with 15 other people). The agent was able to see that no one had contacted me for my side of the story, which is why it was stuck. She's sending it to an adjudicator today and said they should contact me within 48 hours for a fact-finding interview. She also noted the hardship with my utilities about to be shut off. Finally some progress! Will update again when I hear more.

•That's great news! Make sure to gather any documentation you have about the layoff - termination letter, emails, texts, anything showing you were part of a larger reduction in force. The fact-finding interview is your chance to present your side. If 15 other people were laid off at the same time, that strongly supports your case. Good luck!
