FTB sending lien notice despite paid taxes - help!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I just got a Corporation Final Notice Before Levy and Lien from the FTB, but the thing is, we've already paid them for the year! Has anyone else dealt with this? It's so frustrating to have a lien being applied to our bank accounts when we've done everything right. Any advice on how to handle this situation?

Ugh, that sucks! I've been there before. First thing you need to do is gather ALL your payment records. Every single one. Then call FTB and explain the situation calmly. Ask them to review your account in detail. Sometimes its just a glitch in their system, but you gotta be prepared to prove you paid.

ā¢Thanks for the advice! I've got all my records ready. Just hoping they'll actually listen and not give me the runaround.

ā¢Good luck getting through to them tho. I spent 3 hours on hold last week š

ā¢Oh man, tell me about it. The hold times are brutal. But hang in there, it's worth it to get this sorted out!

I found a way to get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/0KwvDlViV6Q

ā¢Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? How long did you have to wait?

ā¢It actually does! I was skeptical too, but I got through in about 45 minutes. Way better than spending hours on hold myself.

ā¢$20 just to make a phone call? The system is so broken š¤¦āāļø

ā¢I know it sounds crazy, but when you factor in the time saved and stress avoided, it was worth it for me. To each their own tho!

Listen up, because I've been through this rodeo before. Here's what you need to do: ⢠First, don't panic. A notice doesn't mean immediate action. ⢠Gather ALL your payment records. Bank statements, cancelled checks, online payment confirmations - everything. ⢠Write a clear, concise letter explaining the situation. Include copies (NOT originals) of your payment proofs. ⢠Send this via certified mail so you have proof they received it. ⢠Simultaneously, try to reach them by phone. Be persistent but polite. ⢠If you can't resolve it directly, consider contacting the Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can sometimes intervene on your behalf. ⢠Keep detailed records of all communications - dates, times, who you spoke to. ⢠If it's a substantial amount, it might be worth consulting a tax attorney. Remember, the FTB can make mistakes. Stay calm, be organized, and don't be afraid to stand your ground if you know you're right. Good luck!

Quick question - are you sure all your filings are up to date? Sometimes they'll send these notices if you're missing a form, even if you've paid.

ā¢Oh man, I didn't even think of that. I'll double check all our filings. Thanks for the tip!

This happened to me last year. Turns out there was a discrepancy between what we reported and what they had on file. Took forever to sort out, but we finally got it resolved. Don't give up!

Pro tip: If you can't get through on the main line, try calling right when they open. I usually have better luck then.

ā¢What time do they open? Asking for a friend š

ā¢8am Pacific Time, I believe. But double check on their website to be sure!

Anyone else feel like we need a complete overhaul of the tax system? This stuff is way too complicated for the average person to navigate.

ā¢Preach! š I've been saying this for years. It's like you need a law degree just to file taxes correctly.

ā¢Careful what you wish for. Knowing the government, they'd probably make it even more complicated š

Hey OP, just curious - how long ago did you make the payment they're saying you didn't make?

Anastasia Smirnova
ā¢We made the payment about 3 months ago. That's why I'm so confused about this notice.

ā¢Hmm, that's plenty of time for it to process. Definitely sounds like something's off on their end. Hope you get it sorted soon!

This is so stressful! I had a similar issue last year where they claimed I owed money despite having proof of payment. What really helped me was creating a timeline document with all payment dates, confirmation numbers, and any correspondence. Also, when you call, ask for a supervisor right away if the first person can't help - don't waste time with someone who doesn't have authority to fix it. The whole process took about 6 weeks to resolve, but they did eventually clear everything up and removed the lien. Stay strong and keep all your documentation organized!
