FTB applying lien for $800 tax I already paid in March 2023 - Help!
I just got a notice saying there's a lien being applied to my bank accounts for an $800 FTB tax from 2023. The thing is, I already paid this back in March 2023! Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do now?

Ugh, classic FTB mess-up. 🙄 I had something similar happen last year. Did you keep any proof of payment? That's gonna be key in sorting this out.

•Yeah, I think I still have the bank statement showing the payment. Should I just send that to them?

•Definitely! Send it ASAP. But also call them to explain the situation. Sometimes these things get lost in their system.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at FTB. There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials through the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/0KwvDlViV6Q

•Sounds too good to be true. How does it actually work?

•It's legit! You pay, give them your number, and they call you when they get an agent. Saved me hours of hold time.

•Nah, I was skeptical too at first. But it's a real service. They don't ask for any personal info beyond your phone number. Worth it if you're desperate to talk to someone.

This happened to me too! Turns out there was a glitch in their system that didn't register some payments made in early 2023. I had to send in a formal dispute with copies of my bank statements. Took about 6 weeks, but they finally removed the lien. Hang in there!

The FTB is such a joke. 🤡 They can take our money instantly but when it comes to fixing their mistakes, suddenly everything moves at a snail's pace. 🐌

•Preach! 🙌 It's like they operate in a different dimension where time doesn't exist.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your payment proof (bank statements, receipts, etc.) 2. Write a formal dispute letter explaining the situation 3. Include copies (not originals) of your proof with the letter 4. Send it via certified mail so you have proof of delivery 5. ALSO fax the same documents (yes, they still use fax 🙄) 6. Call their customer service line and request a hold on any further lien actions while they investigate 7. Follow up every week until it's resolved It's a pain, but stay persistent. Document every call and interaction. If they're not responsive, consider reaching out to your state representative for help. Good luck!

•This is solid advice. I'd add: keep a log of every person you talk to, including their ID number if possible. It helps if you need to escalate later.

have you checked your FTB online account? sometimes the info there is more up-to-date than what they send in the mail

•Good idea, I'll take a look. Hopefully it shows the payment there.

Not to be that guy, but are you 100% sure you paid the right tax year? I once thought I had this issue but turns out I paid for the wrong year by accident. Double check everything!

•Oh man, now you've got me worried. I'll definitely double-check. Thanks for the heads up!

This is why I always pay my taxes with a credit card. Yeah, there's a fee, but the paper trail is worth it. Plus, if something like this happens, you can dispute the charge.

•Smart move. I might start doing this too. Which card do you use?

•I use my Amex for the points, but any card with good customer service would work.
