EDD Nightmare: Homeless Single Mom Fighting for Covid Backpay - Need Help!
I've been trying to get my backed pay from EDD since Covid started. I've done everything they asked, even tracked down people who tried to steal my identity. I've kept copies of all interactions, appeals, and approval letters. I was calling every day but couldn't get through or the call would drop. Because of these communication issues and Covid, I've lost everything. I'm now homeless, a single mother with a child to support. It's thrown me into a mental whirlwind. This is my last hope before finding a lawyer to help. Anyone else dealing with this nightmare?

Man, I feel for you. The EDD system is a complete mess. I've been dealing with similar issues for months now. Have you tried reaching out to your local assemblymember? They sometimes can help push things through.

•Thanks for the suggestion. I've thought about contacting my assemblymember, but I'm not even sure who that is anymore since I lost my home. Does anyone know if I can still do this while homeless?

•Yes, you can! Use your last known address or a friend's address. Assemblymembers are usually pretty good about helping constituents, even in tough situations. Give it a shot!

•I second this advice. My assemblymember's office was a game-changer for me. They got my case moving when it had been stalled for months. Def worth a try!

I'm so sorry you're going through this. The system is broken and it's failing the people who need it most. Have you looked into any local non-profits or legal aid societies? They might be able to help you navigate this mess without charging you.

Hey, I found a method to actually get someone on the phone at EDD. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/XbqD8mexcoQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Got through to an agent in about 2 hours instead of calling for days.

•I've used it too. It's legit. Saved me so much time and frustration.

•$20 to maybe get my thousands in backed pay? Worth a shot at this point lol

Here's what I've learned from my own EDD nightmare: 1. Document EVERYTHING. Every call, letter, and interaction. 2. Be persistent. Call daily if you have to. 3. Use the online portal to send messages - sometimes they respond faster there. 4. Contact your local assemblymember or state senator. 5. Consider legal aid if things aren't moving. 6. Join Facebook groups for EDD claimants - lots of good info there. 7. If you can afford it, try a paid service to get through on the phone. Hang in there. It's a broken system, but don't give up. Your persistence will pay off eventually.

•Thank you so much for this detailed advice. I've been doing some of these things, but I'll definitely try the others. It's just so exhausting fighting this battle every day.

•I didn't even know that was an option. Do they take walk-ins or do I need an appointment?

This is why we need major reform in our social safety net. The system is clearly not equipped to handle crises like COVID. It's failing the very people it's supposed to help. We need to vote for representatives who will prioritize fixing these broken systems.
