When can I reopen my unemployment claim? (Filed last January, can't get through on phone)

Hey everyone, I need some help with my unemployment claim. I filed last January, but I'm not sure when I can open it again this year. Does anyone know if there's a specific date or time frame I need to wait for? I tried calling the unemployment office, but I've been on hold forever and the music just cut out. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Ugh, the unemployment system is such a mess! I've been trying to get through for weeks. From what I remember, you can usually reopen your claim after a year has passed since your initial filing date. But with all the changes lately, who knows? šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Yeah, its a total nightmare. I spent like 3 hours on hold last week and then got disconnected. 😔

Same boat here. The whole system needs an overhaul. Its ridiculous that we cant even get basic info without jumping through hoops.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

20 bucks? Thats kinda steep for just a phone call...

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. After weeks of trying, I finally got through. Worth every penny imho.

How long did you have to wait once they called you back?

It took about an hour, but I just went about my day and they called when an agent was ready. Way better than being stuck on hold!

Here's what I know about reopening claims: • Generally, you can reopen a claim after your benefit year ends • The benefit year is typically 52 weeks from when you first filed • You might need to file a new claim if it's been over a year • Check your state's unemployment website for specific instructions • Some states allow you to reopen online, others require a phone call • Have your previous claim info and recent work history ready Hope this helps! The system's a maze, but hang in there.

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed info! This is super helpful. I'll check my state's website and see what they say about reopening online.

Hey OP, just a heads up - make sure you've been certifying for benefits regularly, even if you're not currently receiving them. It can affect your ability to reopen the claim smoothly.

Anyone else feel like we need a support group for dealing with unemployment stress? This stuff is seriously anxiety-inducing 😰
