When can I open my EDD unemployment claim this year? Different from last January?
Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out when I can open my unemployment claim this year. Last year I opened it in January, but I'm not sure if it's the same process this time around. Anyone know how this works or if there's a specific date I need to wait for?

I think it depends on your benefit year end date. Check your last claim paperwork, it should tell you when your current claim expires. You can usually file a new claim right after that date.

•Thanks for the tip! I'll dig up my old paperwork and take a look. Do you know if there's a way to check this online?

•Yep! You can log into your EDD account online. There should be a section that shows your claim info, including the benefit year end date. Hope that helps!

•Just a heads up, sometimes the online system can be glitchy af. If you cant find it there, def call them. Better safe than sorry 🤷♂️

Ugh, dealing with unemployment is such a pain. I had to refile last month and it took FOREVER to get through to someone. Good luck, OP!

Hey, I found a method to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

•I get the skepticism, but yeah it's legit. I was desperate after trying for weeks and it actually worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

•I hear ya, but for me it was worth it. Time is money, and I was wasting whole days trying to get through. 🤷♀️

Pro tip: If you're refiling, make sure you have all your employment info from the past 18 months ready. They'll ask for it and it's a pain if you're not prepared.

•Thanks for the heads up! Do you know exactly what info I should gather? Like pay stubs and stuff?

•Yep, pay stubs are good. Also have the names and addresses of all your employers, your dates of employment, and reason for leaving each job. Oh, and your social security number ofc.

lol good luck. EDD is a joke. I've been trying to sort out an issue with my claim for 3 months now. It's like they don't want us to get help 🙄

•Preach! 🙌 The whole system needs an overhaul. It's not the 90s anymore, why is everything so complicated?

•Have you tried reaching out to your local assemblymember? Sometimes they can help push things along with EDD.

Here's the official info from the EDD website: You can file a new claim if you have already collected all benefits associated with your most recent claim and are still unemployed or working part time. If you have not collected all benefits associated with your most recent claim, you must reopen your claim to resume benefits. To file a new claim, you can: 1. File online using UI Online (recommended) 2. File by phone 3. File by mail or fax Make sure you have all necessary information before starting your application. This includes: • Personal information (SSN, contact details, etc.) • Last employer information • Employment history for the last 18 months • Citizenship status and work authorization (if applicable) Hope this helps! Let me know if you need any clarification on any of these points.

•Wow, thank you so much for this detailed info! This is super helpful. I'll definitely use UI Online, seems like the easiest way.

•This is great info, but man, why do they make it so complicated? 🤦♂️ It's like they want us to mess up.

•I know, right? The system could definitely use some streamlining. But until then, we gotta work with what we've got. Hang in there, everyone!

Anyone else notice that the EDD website is always "under maintenance" when you actually need to use it? 😤

Guys, don't forget to check if you qualify for any of the extended benefit programs. With all the COVID stuff, there might be additional help available.
