Santa Ana EDD Disability Office on MacArthur Blvd - Still Open in 2025?

Has anyone been to the EDD Disability (SDI) office in Santa Ana on MacArthur Blvd recently? I need to submit some disability paperwork in person and I'm not sure if that office is still operational. The EDD website is super confusing and when I called the main number, I just got put on hold forever. My doctor suggested dropping off my forms in person since my case is a bit complicated. Anyone know if it's still there and what their hours are? Would hate to drive all the way there just to find out it's closed or moved somewhere else.

Yes, the Santa Ana EDD office on MacArthur is still open as of last month. I went there to resolve an issue with my disability claim. They're at 2 MacArthur Place, Santa Ana. Their hours are 8am-5pm Monday through Friday, but they close for lunch between 12-1pm. Just a heads up - bring all your paperwork, photo ID, and arrive early because there's usually a line. Also, make sure to check if you need an appointment for what you're trying to do. Some services are appointment-only now.

Thank you so much! That's exactly what I needed to know. Did you have to make an appointment or were you able to just walk in?

i went there last week and the security guard said they moved the disability stuff to the 3rd floor! used to be on 1st floor. parking is still free in the structure behind the building btw

Oh that's super helpful to know about the 3rd floor change and free parking. Thanks!

CAREFUL!!! They changed a bunch of their procedures after COVID! I went there in January thinking I could just drop off my disability forms and they told me I should have submitted them online!!! Wasted a whole trip and had to come back for an appointment anyway. Their website is useless and never updated with accurate info. Call first if you can (ha! good luck with that) or check the door signs when you arrive. Sometimes they post updates there that aren't online.

That's partially correct. You CAN still drop off disability forms in person, but only certain types. If it's a standard SDI claim form, they prefer online submission. But for appeals, medical provider supplemental information, or identity verification documents, they still accept walk-ins. They've been inconsistent though, so it's always good to check before going.

I had the same issue with trying to reach someone about my SDI claim. I was on hold for hours with no luck. I eventually used Claimyr to connect with a live EDD representative and got through in about 8 minutes. Saved me a trip to the office entirely! I just talked to the rep and they helped me submit my forms electronically. You can watch how it works at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km and get it at claimyr.com. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked when nothing else did.

Thanks for the suggestion! I might try that if I run into issues at the office. Sometimes talking to a real person on the phone is easier than going in person.

is that service legit? seems kinda sketchy to pay just to talk to edd

Yeah it's legit. I was hesitant too, but after spending like 6 days trying to get through on my own, it was worth it. They just help you bypass the phone tree and waiting. The actual conversation is still directly with EDD.

My cousin works for EDD (not in Santa Ana though) and she told me that a lot of their services have moved online but disability stuff sometimes still needs in-person visits. I think it depends on what specific forms you're submitting. Some medical stuff can't be handled electronically for privacy reasons? But I'm not 100% sure about that so don't quote me lol

UPDATE: I went to the Santa Ana office today. It IS still there at 2 MacArthur Place. I was able to submit my paperwork in person (I had additional medical documentation that my doctor said needed to be submitted in person). As someone mentioned, disability services are now on the 3rd floor. The line wasn't too bad - I waited about 25 minutes. They verified my identity and took all my documents. The staff member said I should see updates in my online account within 3-5 business days. Thanks everyone for your help!

Glad it worked out! And thanks for coming back to update - helps others who might have the same question.

So they DID take your paperwork!! Interesting... maybe the rules are different for different types of disability claims. The whole system is so confusing.

Just wanted to add that if anyone else is having trouble with the EDD phone system, I've found that calling right at 8am when they open gives you the best chance of getting through. The hold times are usually shorter in the morning. Also, if you're going to the Santa Ana office, there's a Starbucks across the street which is handy if you need to wait or grab coffee before/after your visit. The office staff there have always been pretty helpful in my experience, even though the wait can be long sometimes.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the morning call strategy! That's really helpful advice. I've been struggling with the EDD phone system for weeks now and hadn't thought to try calling right at 8am. Will definitely give that a shot next time I need to reach them. And good to know about the Starbucks - I was wondering where I could grab a coffee if I had to wait a long time. The Santa Ana office seems to have pretty mixed reviews online, but it sounds like most people here have had decent experiences with the actual staff once they get in.

I can confirm the 8am call strategy works! I tried it last month after seeing similar advice and got through in about 15 minutes instead of the usual hour+ wait. The key is to call exactly at 8:00am, not 8:01 or later. Also, make sure you have all your info ready (SSN, claim number, etc.) because they move pretty quickly once you get connected. The Starbucks tip is clutch too - I ended up waiting there for like 45 minutes before my appointment and it was way better than sitting in the EDD waiting area.

I work near the Santa Ana office and drive by it regularly - can confirm it's definitely still operational! Just saw people going in and out yesterday around lunchtime. One thing I'd add is that their parking structure can get pretty full during peak hours (usually 10am-2pm), so if you're planning to go, either arrive early or be prepared to circle around a bit to find a spot. The structure entrance is a little tricky to find the first time - it's behind the building on the right side if you're facing the main entrance. Also, bring quarters for the parking meters on the street if the structure is full, though as someone mentioned the structure parking is free.

Thanks for the detailed parking info! I was actually wondering about that since I'm not familiar with the area. Good to know about the structure being behind the building - I probably would have spent time looking for it. The peak hours tip is really helpful too. I'm planning to go early morning anyway to avoid crowds, so hopefully parking won't be an issue then. Really appreciate everyone sharing their recent experiences with this office!

Just a heads up for anyone planning to visit - I was there two weeks ago and they now require you to check in at the main desk on the first floor before going up to the 3rd floor disability office. They give you a number and you wait downstairs until called. This is new since my last visit in December. Also, they're being stricter about the documents they accept - make sure everything is properly filled out and signed before you go. I saw a few people get turned away because their forms were incomplete. The staff is helpful but they can't fix missing signatures or incomplete sections on the spot.

Thanks for this update about the new check-in process! That's really important to know since it sounds like things have changed recently. I was planning to go straight to the 3rd floor based on what others mentioned, so I would have been confused. Good point about having all documents completely filled out too - that seems like a common issue that could easily be avoided with a bit more preparation. Did you have to wait long after getting your number, or did they call people up pretty quickly?

I went to the Santa Ana EDD office just yesterday and can confirm everything people are saying here is accurate! The new check-in process on the first floor is definitely in place - they gave me a number and I waited about 20 minutes before being called up to the 3rd floor. The staff was really helpful and professional. One thing I'd add is that they now have a digital display board that shows which numbers are being called, so you don't have to worry about missing your turn. Also, bring a pen - they don't provide them anymore and I saw several people having to ask around to borrow one. The whole process took about an hour from check-in to completion, which wasn't too bad considering how backed up everything has been lately.

This is super helpful and current info, thank you! The digital display board sounds like a great improvement - I always worry about missing my number when they call it out. Good tip about bringing a pen too, that's such a simple thing that would be easy to forget. An hour total doesn't sound too bad at all, especially compared to some of the horror stories I've heard about other EDD offices. Really appreciate you sharing your recent experience!

I've been to this office several times over the past year for various disability-related issues, and I wanted to share a few additional tips that might help others. First, if you're driving there, I'd recommend using the Waze app because the MacArthur area can have some confusing construction detours that aren't always well-marked. Second, they have a small waiting area on the first floor with limited seating, so if you have mobility issues or expect a long wait, you might want to bring a portable chair or be prepared to stand. Third, I've noticed they tend to be less busy on Wednesdays and Thursdays compared to Mondays and Fridays. The staff really does try to help, but they're working with a system that has a lot of constraints, so patience goes a long way. Overall, despite the bureaucratic challenges, I've found the Santa Ana office to be one of the more functional EDD locations in Orange County.

This is incredibly thorough advice, thank you! The Waze tip is especially smart - I hadn't considered potential construction issues in that area. The weekday timing recommendation is really valuable too, I was planning to go on a Monday but maybe I'll shoot for Wednesday instead. And bringing a portable chair is such a practical suggestion for anyone who might have trouble standing for extended periods. It sounds like you've really figured out the system there! Quick question - do they have any water fountains or vending machines in case you're there for a while?
