Can't find in-person EDD SDI offices in Riverside County & interstate UI claim denied - help?

After being diagnosed with a severe case of tendonitis that required me to take time off work, I've been trying to find an actual EDD office in Riverside County where I could speak with someone in person about my SDI claim. I went to what I thought was an EDD office in Indio yesterday, but it was just CalJOBS staff who directed me to phones to call the same EDD numbers I've been trying for days. So frustrating! Does anyone know if there are any physical EDD offices in Riverside or nearby counties (even LA County) where you can actually meet with SDI representatives face-to-face? Are they all still operating remotely since COVID? I can't find clear info on this anywhere. Also, I'm dealing with a complicated situation because I moved to California from Oregon in January 2025. I worked remotely for the same company both before and after moving. If my medical condition extends and I need to transition to UI later, will I run into interstate claim issues? The EDD website mentions "interstate claims" but I'm worried about being denied because of my recent move. Any info would be greatly appreciated! This whole process is so confusing when you can't talk to an actual human being.

Ugh the EDD offices are such a mess right now!!! I tried finding one in San Bernardino last month for my disability stuff and ended up getting the run around too. everything seems to be PHONE ONLY these days which is ridiculous when ur trying to sort out complicated claims!!! someone told me theres an office in riverside on chicago ave but when i went there it was just unemployment not disability. so annoying.

Thanks for sharing your experience. So frustrating that they make it so difficult to get help! Did you ever manage to resolve your SDI issue? I'm worried about my claim getting stuck in processing limbo.

Unfortunately, most EDD offices stopped offering in-person services for SDI claims during the pandemic, and many never resumed. Your experience in Indio is typical - they've transitioned to those phone stations instead of staffed offices. For your interstate situation: Since you continued working for the same employer after moving to California, your wage credits should be properly established for SDI purposes as long as your employer reported your wages correctly to California after your move. For disability claims, the important factor is where you were working when you became disabled (California), not how long you've been in the state. If you later need to transition to UI, that's where it gets tricky. You'd need to have sufficient base period wages reported in California. If most of your base period wages were earned in Oregon, you might need to file an interstate claim through Oregon instead of California, even though you're a California resident now.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! That helps clarify things a bit. Do you know if I'll have any issues with my current SDI claim if I've only been working in California since January? My doctor submitted all the medical certification paperwork, but I'm worried about the wage credits since I'm fairly new to the state.

I had a similiar situation last year and wasted sooooo much time trying to find an actual person to talk to. The system is broken!! After trying for weeks, I finally got through to someone on the phone using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have this service where they get you connected to an actual EDD agent fast instead of waiting on hold forever. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd It was the only way I could get my interstate claim sorted out. The agent I spoke with was actually helpful once I finally got through! Might be worth trying if you're desperate like I was.

The EDD disability system is DELIBERATELY designed to be confusing and difficult to navigate. They WANT people to give up so they don't have to pay claims. I've been through this nightmare twice now with disability claims. There are NO in-person SDI offices anymore in Riverside County. The closest one with any actual staff might be in Los Angeles, but even there they're mostly skeleton crews. They've been "temporarily closed" since 2020 but we all know what that really means. The state saves money by not staffing offices and making everything phone and online only. For your interstate situation - they will 100% try to deny you if there's any technicality they can use. Document EVERYTHING. Record all phone calls (California is a two-party consent state, so you need to tell them you're recording). The EDD representatives often give contradictory information and then deny claims based on misinformation they themselves provided!

While I understand your frustration with EDD, recording calls without explicit consent from all parties could actually create legal issues in California. Instead, I recommend taking detailed notes during each call including the representative's ID number, the date/time, and summary of what was discussed. Request written confirmation of important information when possible. Also, not all offices are permanently closed. Some locations are operating on limited schedules or by appointment only for certain services. The San Bernardino office does occasionally process in-person disability issues by appointment, though getting those appointments can be challenging.

Regarding your interstate claim concern: If you worked continuously for the same employer before and after moving to California, you should qualify for CA SDI as long as you were working in California when you became disabled. The "base period" for SDI claims uses wages earned 5-17 months before your disability began, so your Oregon wages may be part of that calculation. For physical offices: While most in-person services were suspended during COVID, some offices have resumed limited in-person services. However, these are primarily for unemployment services rather than SDI. Your best option might be the America's Job Center of California (AJCC) in Riverside on Alessandro Boulevard. While they can't process your claim directly, they sometimes have EDD staff who can provide guidance on disability claims. In your situation, I recommend: 1. Continue pursuing your claim through SDI Online and the phone system 2. Request a call back rather than waiting on hold 3. Have your doctor ensure all medical certification documents are properly submitted through SDI Online 4. Double-check that your employer reported your wages correctly to California since January

ur wasting ur time looking for in-person office. lived in riverside for 15yrs and they never have real people to help with disability stuff even before covid. best bet is calling early like 8:01am exactly when they open. thats how i finally got through.

Thanks for the tip! I'll try calling right when they open tomorrow. Did it take you multiple attempts even with calling that early?

yall are makimg this wayyy too complicated. if you moved from Oregon and worked for same company just have HR send a letter confirming your employment dates and that you moved and kept working. its not that deep lol. for the inperson offices id try calling the general EDD number and asking them directly where you can go, why trust random internet people??

I appreciate the suggestion, but I've actually tried calling the main EDD number several times to ask about in-person offices. They either put me on hold forever or give vague answers that don't help. That's why I'm reaching out here - hoping someone has actual recent experience with finding in-person help.

To address your specific question about the interstate claim situation: The EDD website is technically correct about interstate claims, but there's an important distinction. The example they give is about someone who moved TO California after earning wages in another state. In your case, you moved FROM California TO Oregon, which is the reverse scenario. For SDI specifically: - If you've been working in California since January 2025 and became disabled while working here, you should be eligible for CA SDI regardless of your previous state of employment. - Your employer should have started reporting your wages to California when you moved here. - Make sure your employer has your correct California address in their system. The key document for your SDI claim is the DE 2501 (Claim for Disability Insurance Benefits) and your doctor's certification. If those are filed correctly with your California information, you should be able to establish a valid SDI claim even though you recently moved to the state.

Thank you for the clarification! I think there was some confusion - I actually moved FROM Oregon TO California in January 2025 (not the other way around). My employer updated all my information when I moved. It sounds like I should be eligible for CA SDI since I became disabled while working in California. I've submitted all the DE 2501 forms with my current California information, so hopefully that's sufficient.

omg i had a similar issue last year!! so frustrating!!! when i finally got thru to someone they told me that for SDI its based on where u were working when u got sick, not how long. so if u got sick while working in cali u should be ok for disability!! its the UI later that might get complicated with the base period stuff, but cross that bridge when u come to it!

That's a relief to hear! Did your SDI claim end up being approved? How long did it take? I'm on week 2 of waiting and getting anxious about bills.
