Where's the EDD SDI office in San Diego to get disability forms?
I got injured at work last week and my doctor says I need to file for disability but I have to get some forms from EDD first? Where exactly is the EDD office in San Diego? I tried looking it up online but got confused with all these different addresses. Has anyone been to the actual office recently? I need to get this paperwork done ASAP because I'm already missing work and my doctor said there's some 7-day waiting period before benefits even kick in. Any help appreciated!

You don't need to go to a physical EDD office to file for SDI! Everything can be done online or through your doctor. Your doctor should provide you with the DE 2501 form (Doctor's Certificate) and you can file your claim online at edd.ca.gov/SDI_Online. If you're filing for work-related injury, you should actually be applying for Workers' Compensation instead of SDI since you mentioned it happened at work.

•Wait, really? So I don't need to go anywhere? My doctor wasn't clear about this at all! What's the difference between workers comp and SDI? This is so confusing.

•Thank you! Did you have any trouble with the online system? I'm not great with computers honestly and worried I'll mess something up.

The previous answers are correct that you don't need to visit an EDD office, but they missed something important. Since you said this was a work injury, you likely need WORKERS' COMPENSATION, not State Disability Insurance (SDI). These are completely different programs! Talk to your employer about filing a workers' comp claim first - they should have given you a DWC-1 form within one day of reporting your injury. SDI generally doesn't cover work-related injuries unless your workers' comp claim is denied.

•Oh shoot, I didn't know they were different things! My supervisor gave me some paperwork but I thought I still needed to go to EDD. I'll look through what he gave me again. Thanks for explaining the difference!

If you DO still need to talk to someone at EDD for whatever reason, GOOD LUCK!!! I spent TWO WEEKS trying to get through on their phone lines last year when my disability claim was pending. Called 47 times in one day!!! The system is COMPLETELY BROKEN and they don't care about helping injured workers!!

•Same experience here. Three days of calling and getting disconnected. So frustrating!

I had trouble reaching EDD last month too, but I used this service called Claimyr that got me through to an actual person at EDD in about 20 minutes. Saved me days of frustration. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd and their website is claimyr.com. If you end up needing to call EDD about your claim after you figure out whether it's workers comp or SDI, it might help you avoid the endless busy signals.

•Does that actually work? I've never heard of it before and I'm skeptical of anything related to EDD at this point.

•It worked for me. I was desperate after trying for days to get through on my own. They basically call EDD repeatedly for you and then connect you when they get through. Saved me a ton of time and stress.

To summarize for you since there's a lot of information here: 1. If this is a work injury, you need WORKERS' COMPENSATION first - talk to your employer 2. If workers' comp is denied or doesn't apply, then you can apply for SDI 3. For SDI, everything is done online at SDI Online - no need to visit an office 4. Your doctor provides the medical certification (DE 2501) for SDI claims 5. There is indeed a 7-day waiting period before SDI benefits begin Hope this helps clear things up!

•Thank you so much! This really helps organize everything in my head. I'll check with my employer tomorrow about the workers' comp forms they gave me and go from there. Really appreciate everyone's help!

I actually went to the EDD office in San Diego last year thinking the same thing! The office I found was at 303 A Street in downtown, but they just redirected me to do everything online. Waste of a trip and parking $$. Do what everyone else said and handle it online or through your employer for workers comp. Good luck with your injury!

•That's exactly what I was worried about - wasting time and money going to an office when everything can be done online! Thanks for sharing your experience, it definitely saves me from making the same mistake. Hope your situation worked out okay!
