RESEA Zoom link arrives 2 weeks before appointment - finally got mine after anxiety
Just wanted to update everyone about the RESEA (Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment) appointment process! I was stressing out because I received the mail notice about a mandatory RESEA appointment last month, but there was no Zoom link or specific instructions. I called EDD five times with no answer and was panicking about possibly losing my benefits. Turns out the actual Zoom link arrives via email exactly 2 weeks before your scheduled appointment date. Mine just landed in my inbox today! Check your spam/junk folders too, because that's where mine initially went. The email has all the instructions for the virtual workshop and what documents to have ready. Just sharing so others don't freak out like I did waiting for that link!

Thanks for the heads-up! I just got my RESEA letter yesterday and was wondering about the Zoom details. Did your email come directly from EDD or from a specific workshop provider? Just want to make sure I'm looking for the right sender when it arrives.

•The email came from an address with @edd.ca.gov at the end, but the actual name showed up as "CA EDD RESEA Program" in my inbox. Subject line had my appointment date and "RESEA Workshop" in it. Hope that helps!

•OMG that's terrible! Did you still make the appointment? I heard missing RESEA means automatic disqualification!

I went through this back in January. Just a heads-up: take the RESEA appointment seriously! Have these ready: 1. Your resume (updated) 2. Record of at least 3 job contacts per week 3. Any job search activities (workshops, networking, applications) They really do review everything and will assign follow-up activities. If you don't complete them, your benefits can be suspended. The workshop itself was actually pretty helpful with job search strategies, but it's the follow-up requirements that matter most for keeping your benefits flowing.

•Is it true they make you do a personality assessment during these workshops? My friend said she had to take some quiz about her work preferences and then they tried to push her into applying for jobs she didn't want.

If anyone is still struggling to get through to EDD about their RESEA appointment (or any other claim issues), try Claimyr. I was in the same boat last month - got the RESEA letter with no way to confirm details or ask questions. Used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to an EDD rep in about 25 minutes when I had been trying for days on my own. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The rep confirmed my appointment details and also added notes to my account showing I had been proactively checking on it, which apparently helps if there are ever any questions about your participation.

•does it actually work?? ive spent like 8 hours on hold this week trying to figure out if my RESEA is in person or zoom because my letter doesn't say!!

•Yes, it did for me. Most RESEA appointments are virtual now via Zoom because of efficiency, but some workforce centers are doing in-person ones again. That's exactly why I needed to talk to someone - my letter was unclear too.

WAIT these are MANDATORY??? I thought the RESEA was optional like the other workshops! I got a letter maybe 3 weeks ago but honestly didn't read it carefully because I've been getting so much mail from EDD. Now I'm panicking - how do I check if I missed mine already???

•Yes, RESEA workshops are absolutely mandatory. They're actually federal requirements, not just California EDD policy. Log into your UI Online account and check your inbox there - sometimes appointment notices are sent through the portal as well as mail. If you missed one, call EDD immediately to try rescheduling before they place a hold on your benefits.

I had my RESEA last week and it wasn't bad at all! The career counselor was super nice and actually helped me improve my resume. Make sure you're on time though - they take attendance right at the start and people who showed up even 5 minutes late had to reschedule. The whole thing took about 90 minutes.

•Thanks for sharing your experience! What kind of follow-up tasks did they assign you? I'm trying to prepare and curious what to expect after the actual workshop.

•They gave me a list of 5 tasks: update resume with the suggestions, register on CalJOBS if you haven't already, complete a specific online assessment (takes about 20 min), apply to 5 jobs that match my skills, and schedule one follow-up with the career counselor. You get different deadlines for each - some were 1 week, others 2 weeks. They email you a personalized plan after the workshop.

•Yes, you can reschedule once by calling EDD directly - but do it at least 48 hours before your appointment. Have a legitimate reason ready because they do make notes on your account. Multiple reschedules can trigger eligibility questions, so try to make the rescheduled one work if possible.

The whole EDD system is ridiculous! They send a letter saying you MUST attend this appointment but then don't bother sending the actual meeting details until 2 weeks before? What if someone doesn't check email frequently? Or what if the email goes to spam? Then they can just cut off your benefits because of THEIR poor communication? This is why the unemployment system is so broken!

•While I understand your frustration, this is actually an improvement over the old system. Previously, they would mail all materials which often arrived late or got lost. The two-week notice via email is to ensure the meeting links don't expire and that workshop rosters are current based on recent certifications. Most states actually give less notice than California. If you're concerned about missing important emails, you should add edd.ca.gov to your safe senders list and check your UI Online inbox regularly.

Update: Just finished my RESEA workshop today and wanted to share that it was actually really helpful! The career counselor reviewed my resume personally and gave me specific feedback. We also did breakout rooms to practice interview questions. Much more useful than I expected, and they confirmed that completing all the follow-up activities means I won't be selected for another RESEA during this claim period. So it's definitely worth taking seriously!

•did they ask about your work search efforts? i haven't been keeping great records tbh, mostly just applying online

•Yes they did review work search activities! They asked to see my records during the workshop. Online applications definitely count, but they also want to see variety - networking, job fairs, informational interviews, etc. Don't stress too much though, they were more focused on helping improve my search strategy than judging what I'd done so far. Just start keeping better records now and maybe add some other activities like LinkedIn networking or attending virtual job events.

This is super helpful! I'm scheduled for my RESEA next month and was getting worried about the timing. Quick question - when you attended the workshop, did they break people into groups based on industry or job type? I'm in tech and wondering if they tailor the advice to different fields or if it's more general job search strategies. Also, for the follow-up activities they assign, do you have to complete them all before your next certification or is there more flexibility with the timeline?

•Great questions! In my workshop, they didn't separate by industry but the career counselor did ask everyone to share their field during introductions. When we got to the resume review portion, she gave industry-specific advice - for the tech folks she talked about highlighting relevant programming languages, GitHub profiles, and technical certifications. The breakout rooms were mixed industries which was actually cool because we got to practice explaining our skills to people outside our field. As for follow-up activities, they gave me specific deadlines for each task (some 1 week, others 2-3 weeks) and stressed that completing them on time is what matters for staying compliant, not waiting until your next certification. Hope that helps calm some nerves!

This is so reassuring to read! I just received my RESEA letter yesterday and have been anxiously checking my email every few hours waiting for the Zoom link. Knowing it comes exactly 2 weeks before makes me feel so much better - I was worried something was wrong with my case since there were no meeting details in the initial letter. I'll definitely check my spam folder when the time comes. Thanks for sharing your experience and helping reduce the stress for the rest of us going through this process!

•You're so welcome! I was in the exact same boat - that anxious email checking every hour really gets to you! Just a pro tip: when the email does arrive, take a screenshot of the Zoom link and meeting details as backup. My friend's email somehow got deleted the day before her appointment and she had to scramble to call EDD for help. Having that screenshot saved her a lot of stress. Also, the email usually comes around 9-10 AM on weekdays, so don't panic if you don't see it first thing in the morning. You've got this!

This whole thread has been so helpful! I'm new to receiving unemployment benefits and got my RESEA letter last week. I was completely confused about what it even was - the letter just said "mandatory reemployment workshop" with a date but no other details. Reading everyone's experiences here has made me feel way more prepared. I'm definitely going to set up email alerts for anything from @edd.ca.gov and make sure to check spam folders. Quick question though - for those who've completed it, about how many other people were in your workshop? I'm a bit nervous about the group setting but it sounds like the breakout rooms and resume feedback are really valuable. Thanks for creating such a supportive space to share info!
