Missing backpay weeks to certify - EDD claim backdated to April but only showing May weeks

Hey everyone, I'm super confused about my partner's unemployment claim. He filed for UI back in March after being laid off from his construction job. His award letter arrived with a claim beginning date of 4/7/2024, but when he went to certify this morning, the system only showed weeks 5/11 and 5/18 available to certify. Shouldn't there be weeks from April showing up too? That's like a whole month of benefits he's potentially missing! We really need that backpay since we've been struggling with rent and our car payment. Has anyone dealt with this before? Do we need to call EDD to get those missing April weeks added? I'm worried they'll just disappear if we don't do something about it soon.

Yes, he should definitely have weeks from April available to certify if his claim date starts 4/7. The system should show all available weeks dating back to the claim beginning date. There are a few possible reasons this could be happening: 1. There might be a lag in the system showing all available weeks 2. There could be a technical issue with his UI Online account 3. Sometimes EDD doesn't automatically populate all backdated weeks What I'd recommend is waiting 24-48 hours to see if the system updates with the earlier weeks. If not, you'll need to contact EDD directly to have them add those missing certification weeks. Don't wait too long though - you want to make sure all weeks get certified properly.

THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM!! The EDD system is totally broken and they're probably trying to avoid paying your boyfriend his full benefits. I filed in January and had to FIGHT for weeks to get my backdated certifications to show up. They always claim it's a "glitch" but it happens to too many people for that to be true. YOU NEED TO CALL THEM ASAP!! Don't wait or those weeks might never show up. The problem is actually getting through to a real person who can help. I spent TWO WEEKS calling hundreds of times before finally reaching someone.

Oh no, that sounds awful! Did you eventually get your backdated payments? We really can't afford to miss out on those weeks. I'll try calling tomorrow morning but I know their phone lines are crazy.

I work in HR and see this issue frequently. What often happens is that when you first file, there's a processing period where they review your claim before allowing certification for previous weeks. Your partner should definitely be able to certify for all weeks back to 4/7/2024, but this doesn't always happen automatically in the UI Online system. If the weeks don't appear within 3-5 days, you'll need to contact EDD. However, be aware that trying to get through on the phone can be incredibly frustrating. They'll only let you call during certain hours and the lines are usually overwhelmed. Alternatively, your partner could try sending a message through UI Online asking about the missing certification weeks, but responses can take 5-7 days or longer.

I tried the message system and waited 2 weeks with no response. Calling is really the only way to get this fixed quickly. Just be prepared to be REALLY patient and keep redialing.

Have you tried checking if your partner's account has any notifications or messages from EDD? Sometimes they'll explain why certain weeks aren't available for certification. Also make sure he didn't accidentally miss any ID verification requests - that can hold up the whole process.

I just checked and there aren't any messages or alerts in his account. Everything seems normal except for the missing weeks. He did complete the ID.me verification when he first applied, so I don't think that's the issue. It's so frustrating because the award letter clearly shows the April start date!

i had a similar issue and it turned out i needed to call because they had some question about my previous employer. once i cleared that up, all my back weeks showed up the next day. but yeah its weird the system doesnt just tell you WHY the weeks arent there lol

I've helped several people use Claimyr to get through to EDD quickly. It's a service that basically keeps dialing for you until it gets through, then connects you to an EDD rep. Saved me hours of frustration. Their website is claimyr.com and you can see how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km I know it sounds like a paid ad but honestly when you're dealing with weeks of missing benefits, it's worth looking into. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked - got me through to a rep in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own.

Thanks for the tip! I'd never heard of this service before. Did you actually get through to someone who could help? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point.

Yes, I got connected to a tier 2 specialist who was able to manually add my missing weeks. Just make sure your partner has all his information ready (SSN, ID info, employment history) because once you get through, you don't want to waste any time. I think the rep I spoke with mentioned this backdate certification issue is pretty common.

why dont u just certify the weeks u can see for now? those missing weeks might show up later automatically. my roomate had this happen

We did certify for the weeks that are available. I'm just worried about the missing April weeks because that's a lot of money we've been counting on. I guess we could wait a few days to see if they appear...

Update on what to do in this specific situation: 1. First, have your partner certify for the weeks currently available (5/11 and 5/18) 2. Wait 2-3 days to see if the system updates with the April weeks 3. If not, contact EDD directly - phone is fastest but hardest to get through 4. When speaking with a representative, specifically ask them to "add the missing certification weeks from the claim beginning date of 4/7/2024" 5. Be prepared to explain that the award letter shows 4/7 as the start date The representative should be able to manually add those weeks to the certification queue. Once added, your partner will need to certify for those weeks immediately. Don't worry about the payments being "lost" - as long as the claim beginning date is 4/7, he's entitled to certify for those weeks.

Thank you so much for the clear instructions! We'll follow these steps exactly. He already certified for the May weeks, so we'll wait a couple days to see if anything changes. If not, looks like we'll need to brave the phone system. I appreciate everyone's advice!
