Is EDD open for calls today? Need reliable phone number to contact them

I desperately need to speak with an EDD representative about my certifications getting stuck in pending for 5 weeks! My rent is due next week and I'm panicking. Does anyone know if the EDD call center is open today (Friday)? And what's the BEST number to call where I'll actually get through to a real person? I've tried the main number listed on their website like 20 times already this week and either get disconnected or told they're at 'maximum callers'. I'm at my wits end here and really need to talk to someone who can actually help me!

Thanks! Have you had any luck getting through recently? I've been trying all week with no success. I'm worried my claim is going to be disqualified if I don't talk to someone soon. :

The EDD call center is indeed open today (Friday) from 8am to 5pm. The most reliable number is 1-800-300-5616 for UI questions. However, the high call volume makes it extremely difficult to get through, especially later in the day. Some tips to increase your chances: 1. Call exactly at 8:00am when they open 2. If disconnected, keep trying between 10-11am or 3-4pm (slightly lower volume times) 3. Try the alternate number 1-833-978-2511 which sometimes has shorter waits 4. Have your claim number, SSN, and detailed notes about your issue ready Regarding your pending certifications, this is unfortunately common right now. There could be an eligibility issue that needs to be resolved through an interview, identity verification problem, or quarterly review flag.

This is TOTALLY FALSE information! EDD reps DO NOT answer the phones at 3-4pm! They STOP taking calls at 12pm and just let the queue finish out. I worked for EDD for 7 years and they NEVER take new calls after noon despite what their website claims!!! The whole system is designed to frustrate claimants!!!

After struggling with the EDD phone lines for weeks (literally 67 calls in one day!), I finally found a service called Claimyr that got me through to an EDD representative in under 30 minutes. It connects you directly to EDD and bypasses the busy signals. The service costs money but it was worth every penny when my benefits were at stake. You can check them out at claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Before using them, I was in the same situation with pending certifications for weeks. The EDD rep I finally spoke to fixed my issue in about 10 minutes once I actually got through. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human to move your claim forward.

Is this legit? Seems sketchy to use a third party service to contact a government agency. Has anyone else actually used this?

Just wondering if anyone knows if we HAVE to call? My certification has been pending for 2 weeks but maybe it just takes time to process? Do I really need to call or will it eventually change to paid? Sorry if this is a dumb question, this is my first time on unemployment.

It's not a dumb question at all! Sometimes claims do resolve on their own, but after 2 weeks of pending status, it usually indicates there's an issue that needs human intervention. It could be identity verification, quarterly review, or an eligibility question that's flagging your account. I'd recommend calling if you're hitting the 2-week mark of pending status. The longer you wait, the more payments might get stuck in the system. Some issues can only be fixed by a claim specialist and won't resolve automatically.

UPDATE: I finally got through!!! For anyone who needs to know, I called right at 8:00am and kept hitting redial for about 45 minutes. Finally got in the queue and waited another hour. The rep was actually super helpful and found that there was a flag on my account from my last employer contesting my claim. She scheduled me for an eligibility interview next week to resolve it. She said all my pending weeks should be released once that's done. So if you're stuck in pending like me, definitely keep trying to call. There's probably something specific holding up your claim that only they can see in their system. Don't give up!!
