EDD sent certification links after appeal hearing - does this mean I won?

So confused right now and hoping someone can shed some light! I had my appeal hearing last week for a claim that was denied last year. This morning I randomly got an email from EDD asking me to certify for benefits from February 2022 through February 2023 (that's a whole year of back certifications!). Does this mean my appeal was successful? I haven't received any official decision letter yet, and my UI Online account still shows my claim as 'disqualified'. I'm afraid to get my hopes up but also don't want to ignore the certification request if it's important. Has anyone experienced something similar after their appeal? How long after your hearing did you get the official decision?

This is actually a really good sign! When I won my appeal in 2023, I got the certification emails about 8-10 days before I received the official decision letter in the mail. EDD won't ask you to certify unless they're planning to pay you. Their system updates before they send out the paperwork. Go ahead and certify for all those weeks - if you won, you want those certifications done so they can start processing your backpay. The decision letter should arrive within another week. Congrats!

OMG thank you for responding!! That gives me so much hope! Should I wait for the letter before certifying or do it right away? I don't want to mess anything up at this point after fighting for so long.

Ugh, that's what I'm worried about. My dashboard still shows disqualified and I can't see these weeks to certify when I log in directly - only got the email links. Now I'm anxious again 😖

I went through this exact situation in February. In my experience, receiving certification links after an appeal hearing is a strong indicator that the judge ruled in your favor, but it's not 100% guaranteed until you get the official notice. Here's what I recommend: 1. Go ahead and certify for all weeks they're asking for 2. Take screenshots of everything you submit 3. Check your UI Online homepage daily for status updates 4. Keep an eye on your mail for the official appeal decision If you won your appeal, EDD wants you to certify ASAP so they can calculate and process your backpay. They typically send the certification notices shortly after entering the judge's decision into their system, but before generating the official paperwork. The decision letter usually arrives 5-10 business days after the certification links. If you have trouble reaching EDD to confirm your status or have any other questions, I'd recommend Claimyr (claimyr.com). They helped me get through to an EDD rep when I was in your exact situation and needed answers fast. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - definitely worth it when you need immediate answers about your claim status.

Thank you for the detailed response! This is super helpful. I'll go ahead and certify then. I had no idea about Claimyr - might give that a try if I don't get the letter by the end of next week. The waiting and uncertainty is killing me!

Did you get a phone call from the judge about the decision? My daughter's boyfriend had his appeal in December and the judge actually called him a few days after to tell him the result before any paperwork came. Just wondering if that's standard procedure or if he got lucky.

No, I didn't get any call from the judge. The hearing ended with them saying I'd receive the decision in the mail within 2-3 weeks. Maybe your daughter's boyfriend got lucky!

DONT IGNORE IT!!!! Certify IMMEDIATELY!! I won my appeal but didn't realize I needed to certify within 20 days of getting those certification links and then had to file ANOTHER appeal just to get those weeks reopened!! EDD doesn't care if you were confused - they'll just say you failed to certify in time. Certify now and ask questions later!!!

This 👆 Happened to my roommate too. So stupid how EDD makes everything confusing and then blames us when we don't read their minds correctly

It's likely positive news, but EDD systems are notoriously unpredictable. I'd recommend certifying for all weeks promptly, but maintain realistic expectations until you receive the official documentation. I've seen cases where the certification links appear because a worker was processing your appeal and initiated that action, but the final decision could still go either way. The most telling sign will be when you see your claim status change from "disqualified" to something else in your UI Online account. Also, if you certified previously for any of these weeks and were denied, you may need to complete a separate form for those weeks versus weeks you never certified for at all. Keep track of everything you submit and screenshot any confirmation screens.

Thanks for the realistic perspective. I'm going to certify today but try not to get too excited until I see that status change. I never certified for these weeks before because I was disqualified right from the start, so hopefully that makes the process simpler.

I work at edd (not official capacity here just to be clear!!) and yeah we send cert links after appeal decision entered in system but BEFORE letters go out. not a glitch! good luck!!

Thank you so much for the insider perspective! That makes me feel much better about certifying for these weeks. Fingers crossed!

Quick update on timeline expectations - after my appeal win last year, it took about 2 weeks after certifying all my back weeks before I saw any payment activity. Then they released all payments over about a 3-day period. So even after certifying, be prepared for another waiting period as they process everything. The good news is that if you're certifying for Feb 2022-Feb 2023, that means you're potentially looking at a substantial amount of backpay coming your way!

That's really helpful to know! I was laid off from a $78k job so the backpay would be significant. I won't count my chickens before they hatch, but this gives me a much better idea of what to expect. Thank you!
