EDD sent certification links after appeal hearing - does this mean I won?

So confused right now and hoping someone can shed some light! I had my appeal hearing last week for a claim that was denied last year. This morning I randomly got an email from EDD asking me to certify for benefits from February 2022 through February 2023 (that's a whole year of back certifications!). Does this mean my appeal was successful? I haven't received any official decision letter yet, and my UI Online account still shows my claim as 'disqualified'. I'm afraid to get my hopes up but also don't want to ignore the certification request if it's important. Has anyone experienced something similar after their appeal? How long after your hearing did you get the official decision?

This is actually a really good sign! When I won my appeal in 2023, I got the certification emails about 8-10 days before I received the official decision letter in the mail. EDD won't ask you to certify unless they're planning to pay you. Their system updates before they send out the paperwork. Go ahead and certify for all those weeks - if you won, you want those certifications done so they can start processing your backpay. The decision letter should arrive within another week. Congrats!

OMG thank you for responding!! That gives me so much hope! Should I wait for the letter before certifying or do it right away? I don't want to mess anything up at this point after fighting for so long.

Ugh, that's what I'm worried about. My dashboard still shows disqualified and I can't see these weeks to certify when I log in directly - only got the email links. Now I'm anxious again 😖

I went through this exact situation in February. In my experience, receiving certification links after an appeal hearing is a strong indicator that the judge ruled in your favor, but it's not 100% guaranteed until you get the official notice. Here's what I recommend: 1. Go ahead and certify for all weeks they're asking for 2. Take screenshots of everything you submit 3. Check your UI Online homepage daily for status updates 4. Keep an eye on your mail for the official appeal decision If you won your appeal, EDD wants you to certify ASAP so they can calculate and process your backpay. They typically send the certification notices shortly after entering the judge's decision into their system, but before generating the official paperwork. The decision letter usually arrives 5-10 business days after the certification links. If you have trouble reaching EDD to confirm your status or have any other questions, I'd recommend Claimyr (claimyr.com). They helped me get through to an EDD rep when I was in your exact situation and needed answers fast. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - definitely worth it when you need immediate answers about your claim status.

Thank you for the detailed response! This is super helpful. I'll go ahead and certify then. I had no idea about Claimyr - might give that a try if I don't get the letter by the end of next week. The waiting and uncertainty is killing me!

Did you get a phone call from the judge about the decision? My daughter's boyfriend had his appeal in December and the judge actually called him a few days after to tell him the result before any paperwork came. Just wondering if that's standard procedure or if he got lucky.

No, I didn't get any call from the judge. The hearing ended with them saying I'd receive the decision in the mail within 2-3 weeks. Maybe your daughter's boyfriend got lucky!

DONT IGNORE IT!!!! Certify IMMEDIATELY!! I won my appeal but didn't realize I needed to certify within 20 days of getting those certification links and then had to file ANOTHER appeal just to get those weeks reopened!! EDD doesn't care if you were confused - they'll just say you failed to certify in time. Certify now and ask questions later!!!

This 👆 Happened to my roommate too. So stupid how EDD makes everything confusing and then blames us when we don't read their minds correctly

It's likely positive news, but EDD systems are notoriously unpredictable. I'd recommend certifying for all weeks promptly, but maintain realistic expectations until you receive the official documentation. I've seen cases where the certification links appear because a worker was processing your appeal and initiated that action, but the final decision could still go either way. The most telling sign will be when you see your claim status change from "disqualified" to something else in your UI Online account. Also, if you certified previously for any of these weeks and were denied, you may need to complete a separate form for those weeks versus weeks you never certified for at all. Keep track of everything you submit and screenshot any confirmation screens.

Thanks for the realistic perspective. I'm going to certify today but try not to get too excited until I see that status change. I never certified for these weeks before because I was disqualified right from the start, so hopefully that makes the process simpler.

I work at edd (not official capacity here just to be clear!!) and yeah we send cert links after appeal decision entered in system but BEFORE letters go out. not a glitch! good luck!!

Thank you so much for the insider perspective! That makes me feel much better about certifying for these weeks. Fingers crossed!

Quick update on timeline expectations - after my appeal win last year, it took about 2 weeks after certifying all my back weeks before I saw any payment activity. Then they released all payments over about a 3-day period. So even after certifying, be prepared for another waiting period as they process everything. The good news is that if you're certifying for Feb 2022-Feb 2023, that means you're potentially looking at a substantial amount of backpay coming your way!

That's really helpful to know! I was laid off from a $78k job so the backpay would be significant. I won't count my chickens before they hatch, but this gives me a much better idea of what to expect. Thank you!

I'm new to this whole appeals process but wanted to share what I've learned from reading everyone's experiences here. It sounds like getting certification links after your appeal hearing is definitely a positive sign, even if your online account hasn't updated yet. From what I'm gathering, EDD's system seems to work backwards - they send the certification requests first, then update the online status, then mail the official decision letter. It's confusing but apparently that's just how they do things. I'd definitely recommend certifying for all those weeks ASAP like others have said. Even if there's a small chance it's a system error, you don't want to miss the deadline if you actually won. Better safe than sorry with EDD! Keep us posted on what happens - I'm sure others in similar situations would love to hear how it turns out. Rooting for you!

Thanks for breaking that down so clearly! As someone who's been lurking here trying to understand the appeals process, this thread has been super educational. The backwards system thing makes no sense but at least now I know what to expect if I ever have to go through this. Really hope @Monique gets good news soon - keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Just wanted to chime in as someone who went through this exact same rollercoaster of emotions! I got my certification links about 6 days after my appeal hearing, and like you, my UI Online still showed "disqualified" status. I was terrified it was a mistake, but it turned out to be legit - I won my appeal! The key thing that helped me was what others mentioned - screenshot EVERYTHING when you certify. I took pics of every single page, confirmation numbers, dates, etc. When I finally got my official decision letter (took about 12 days total), having those screenshots helped me track which weeks were processed. One thing I wish someone had told me: when you're certifying for that many back weeks, it can be mentally exhausting. Take breaks between batches if you need to. I tried to do all 8 months at once and made a couple small errors that I had to call in to fix later. The waiting is brutal, but getting those certification links really is a strong indicator that things went your way. Hang in there - you're probably closer to the finish line than you think!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! This is exactly what I needed to hear. The emotional rollercoaster part is so real - I keep going between excitement and anxiety every few minutes. Your point about taking breaks while certifying is really smart - I didn't think about how draining it would be to go through a whole year's worth of certifications at once. I'm definitely going to pace myself and take screenshots of everything like you suggested. It's reassuring to know that someone else went through this exact same situation and came out the other side successfully. Really appreciate you taking the time to share the details!

This happened to me too! I got certification links 4 days after my appeal hearing and was so confused because my account still showed disqualified. Turns out I won! The official letter came about 10 days later. What really helped me was calling the 1-833-978-2511 number around 8:02 AM (right after they open) to get confirmation. The rep was able to tell me that my appeal decision had been entered as "favorable" even though the letter hadn't been mailed yet. Definitely certify for all those weeks - EDD won't send certification links unless they're planning to pay you. Just make sure you answer all the questions accurately since you're certifying for such a long period. Take your time with each week and don't rush through it. The backpay processing took about 3 weeks after I certified, but when it hit, it was life-changing. Sounds like you're looking at a substantial amount given that timeframe. Fingers crossed for you!

This is so reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same thing! I'm definitely going to try calling that number tomorrow morning to see if I can get some confirmation before the letter arrives. The waiting is driving me crazy but hearing all these similar success stories is giving me hope. I really appreciate you sharing the timeline details too - it helps to know what to expect for the backpay processing. A 3-week wait seems totally worth it if it means getting over a year of benefits! Thank you for the encouragement 🤞

I'm going through something similar right now! Had my appeal hearing 3 weeks ago and just got certification links yesterday for about 8 months of back weeks. My UI Online still shows the old status too, so I totally understand the confusion and anxiety you're feeling. From everything I've read here and in other forums, it really does seem like a positive sign when they send those certification links. I've been hesitant to get my hopes up, but seeing all these success stories from people who went through the exact same sequence of events is really encouraging. I started certifying yesterday and took everyone's advice about screenshots - definitely recommend doing that for your peace of mind. I'm also planning to call that number someone mentioned to see if I can get any confirmation about my appeal status. The waiting game is absolutely brutal, but it sounds like we're both probably looking at good news based on everyone's experiences here. Keeping my fingers crossed for both of us! Please update us when you get your official decision - I'll do the same. It's so helpful to have this community to share these experiences with since the whole process is so stressful and confusing.
