EDD phone system always says 'maximum callers reached' - can't get through for 2 weeks!

I'm at my wit's end trying to contact EDD by phone! For the past 2 weeks, I've called literally dozens of times each day and ALWAYS get the same automated message: "the maximum number of callers has been reached please try again later." Not once have I even been placed on hold or given the option to wait. I need to speak with someone because I can't log into my UI Online account. The system keeps saying my password is incorrect even though I KNOW it's right, and when I try the password reset option, I never receive the email. I've checked my spam folder and everything. Is there a physical office I can go to? A secret phone number that actually works? Another way to reset my login? I'm getting desperate because I have bills due next week and need to check on my claim status. Any advice would be deeply appreciated!

OMG same thing happening to me!!! I've been calling for 3 weeks straight and can't get through. It's like they've just shut down their phone lines completely. I actually drove to my local EDD office last week thinking I could talk to someone there, but guess what??? They don't do UI claims in person anymore! The lady at the front desk just told me to keep calling or use the online portal. LIKE I HAVEN'T BEEN TRYING THAT ALREADY?!?!?!

That's so frustrating! Did they at least give you any alternate contact methods when you went in person? I was hoping they might be able to help with the login issues face-to-face.

try calling right when they open at 8am thats what i did last month and got thru after only 15 tries

I've tried calling at 8am sharp every day this week! Still getting the max callers message even at opening time. It's like everyone in California is calling at exactly 8:00:00.

The EDD phone system is completely overwhelmed right now due to a recent system update that's causing login issues for many claimants. Here are some alternatives you can try: 1. Send a secure message through UI Online (if you can access that part without full login) 2. Try calling the technical support line instead of the main line: 1-833-978-2511 3. Contact your state assembly member's office. They have EDD liaisons who can escalate your case 4. For the password reset issue specifically, try using a different email account when requesting the reset link If it's urgent and you need to verify your claim status quickly, your state assembly member's office is actually your best bet. They can typically get a response from EDD within 1-2 business days.

Thank you so much for these suggestions! I hadn't thought about contacting my assembly member. I can't send a secure message because I can't get into the system at all, but I'll definitely try that technical support line and will look up my assembly member right now.

I had the exact same problem last month when my certification got stuck in pending for no reason. Spent days trying to get through on the phones. Finally I used a service called Claimyr that got me through to an actual EDD rep in about 20 minutes. You can check out how it works in their video: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The website is claimyr.com - basically they keep dialing for you until they get through, then call you when they have an EDD agent on the line. Saved me hours of frustration and the agent was able to fix my account access issues right away.

is that even legit tho? sounds sketchy to have some random service calling edd for you. did they need ur ssn or anything??

It's totally legit - they don't need any of your personal EDD info at all. They just do the calling part for you, and when they get through to an agent, they connect you. Then you talk directly to EDD and give them whatever info they need. The service just saves you from having to redial 100 times a day.

I'm going through the exact same login nightmare right now! Have you tried using a different browser? That somehow worked for me - I normally use Chrome but when I switched to Firefox, the password reset email finally came through. No idea why but worth a shot. Also, for what it's worth, the EDD tech support line (1-833-978-2511) has slightly better odds than the regular line. It still took me 27 calls over 2 days, but I eventually got through around 3pm on a Tuesday. The regular line is basically impossible.

I'll definitely try a different browser! That's a great tip. And good to know about the tech support line having slightly better odds. I'll focus my calls there instead. 27 calls still sounds exhausting but at least there's hope!

As someone who worked in customer service adjacent to state systems, I can share that most government phone systems are programmed to only allow a certain number of callers in the queue at once. The problem isn't that they're closed or not answering - it's that the queue fills up within seconds of opening. For the login issues, here's a trick that often works with EDD specifically: try the password reset at unusual hours (like 11pm or 5am) when their system load is lower. The emails often get delayed due to high volume, so requesting it when fewer people are active can help. If you absolutely cannot get through by phone and the password reset isn't working, contacting your state representative is truly the most effective escalation path. They have dedicated EDD liaisons and can often resolve account access issues within 48 hours.

That makes so much sense about the queue filling up instantly. I'll try the late night password reset tonight - that's a brilliant idea I wouldn't have thought of. And I just looked up my assembly member and found their contact info, so I'll reach out to them tomorrow if the other methods don't work. Thank you for explaining how the system actually works!

THE WHOLE EDD SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE US GIVE UP!!!! I'm 100% convinced they make it impossible to contact them on purpose so people just give up trying to get their benefits. I spent 3 MONTHS trying to fix a simple identity verification issue and probably called 500+ times. It's criminal how they treat us!!!!

this is so true they hope we just go away lol

Quick update on the login issues many are experiencing: EDD confirmed there was a system update on March 15, 2025 that's causing login problems for accounts with certain security settings. They're working on a fix, but in the meantime, they've added additional tech support staff to handle these specific issues. If you call the tech support line (1-833-978-2511), when prompted select Option 1, then Option 2 for "account access problems." This routes you to the specialized team handling these login issues. The wait is still long, but your chances of getting through are better on this specific menu path.

This is incredibly helpful information! I had no idea there was a system update causing widespread login issues. I'll try calling with these exact menu options tomorrow morning. Thank you for sharing this update!

where did they confirm this? just wondering cuz i cant find anything about it on their website

They sent an email notification to some claimants (not all, which is part of the problem). They also posted it in the "System Alerts" section on the UI Online homepage, but you can only see that if you can actually log in, which defeats the purpose for those having login issues.

UPDATE: I finally got through! For anyone with the same problem, here's what worked: 1. I used the tech support number (1-833-978-2511) with the menu options that @HelpfulEDDguy suggested 2. Called at exactly 8:00am 3. Still took 14 attempts, but I finally got into the queue around 8:20am 4. Wait time was about 35 minutes The rep said there's a known issue with login credentials after their system update, especially for accounts that were created before 2023. They had to manually reset my access and send a special password reset link to my email. Thank you to everyone who offered suggestions! This community has been so helpful when the official channels were impossible to navigate.

CONGRATS ON GETTING THROUGH THE EDD GAUNTLET!!! Gives me hope I might actually talk to a human someday too! 😂

Wow, this whole thread is incredibly helpful! I'm new to dealing with EDD and was getting so frustrated trying to call them about my claim. @Emma Davis - congratulations on finally getting through! And thank you @Ravi Sharma for sharing those specific menu options and update info. I'm going to try calling the tech support line (1-833-978-2511) tomorrow morning at 8am with Option 1 then Option 2 like you suggested. It's really reassuring to know there's actually a known system issue causing these login problems - I was starting to think I was doing something wrong! This community is amazing - getting more useful information here than anywhere else. Will report back if I manage to get through!

Welcome to the EDD struggle club! 😅 You're definitely not doing anything wrong - this system has been a nightmare for so many people. The tech support line with those specific menu options seems to be the best route right now. Good luck tomorrow morning, and yes please report back! It's so helpful when people share what actually works. Fingers crossed you get through faster than the rest of us did!

Just want to add another option that worked for me last week - if you have a smartphone, try using the EDD mobile app instead of the website for password reset. For some reason the app seems to bypass whatever glitch is affecting the web portal. I was stuck for days trying to reset through the website, then downloaded the app and the reset email came through within 5 minutes! Also, completely agree with everyone saying to contact your assembly member if nothing else works. I did that for a different issue a few months ago and they had someone from EDD call me back within 24 hours. Way faster than trying to get through the phone lines. Hope this helps someone! The system is definitely broken right now but there are workarounds if you keep trying different approaches.

Oh wow, I didn't even know there was an EDD mobile app! That's such a good tip - I've been banging my head against the website for weeks. Downloading it right now to try the password reset. It's crazy how we have to become detectives just to access our own accounts! Thanks for sharing this workaround @Connor Byrne, and also good to hear another success story about the assembly member route working quickly. Really appreciate everyone in this thread sharing what actually works instead of the usual "just keep calling" advice.

This entire thread has been a lifesaver! I've been dealing with the exact same login issues for almost 3 weeks now. Just tried the mobile app suggestion from @Connor Byrne and HOLY COW - the password reset email came through in under 2 minutes! I can't believe something so simple worked when I've been struggling with the website forever. For anyone still stuck, here's my game plan based on all the great advice here: 1. Try the EDD mobile app for password reset first (easiest option) 2. If that doesn't work, call tech support at 1-833-978-2511 (Option 1, then Option 2) right at 8am 3. Nuclear option: contact your assembly member's office You all have restored my faith that there are actually solutions to this madness. Thank you especially to @Emma Davis for the detailed success story and @Ravi Sharma for explaining the system update situation. This community is doing a better job helping people than EDD's actual help resources!

This is exactly the kind of step-by-step breakdown I needed! I'm also dealing with login issues and have been so overwhelmed trying to figure out where to even start. The mobile app tip is genius - I had no idea that was even an option. Going to try that tonight and then follow your game plan if it doesn't work. It's honestly ridiculous that we need a whole strategy just to access our unemployment benefits, but I'm so grateful for communities like this where people actually share what works. Bookmarking this thread for reference!

Reading through all these experiences makes me feel so much less alone in this struggle! I've been dealing with the same login nightmare for about 10 days now - constantly getting "incorrect password" even though I know it's right, and the password reset emails never arriving. I'm definitely going to try the mobile app approach first since that seems to be working for people recently. If that fails, I'll hit the tech support line at 8am sharp with those specific menu options everyone's mentioned. It's honestly wild that we need a whole community investigation just to figure out how to access our own accounts! Thank you to everyone who shared their success stories and actual working solutions. This thread is more helpful than anything I've found on EDD's official website. Will update if the mobile app works for me too - fingers crossed! 🤞

Same here! I've been lurking and reading everyone's advice - this thread is like a goldmine of actual solutions. The mobile app thing seems to be the real game-changer based on multiple success stories. I'm going to try that tonight too. It's honestly both frustrating and reassuring to know so many people are going through the exact same login issues. At least we know it's not just us doing something wrong! Really hoping the app workaround does the trick for both of us. Thanks for keeping the thread updated with your progress - it helps to know we're all figuring this out together!

Just wanted to add my experience to this incredibly helpful thread! I was stuck in the same login loop for about 2 weeks - kept getting "incorrect password" and never receiving reset emails. After reading through all your suggestions, I tried the mobile app approach last night and it worked like magic! Got the password reset email within minutes and was able to access my account for the first time in weeks. For anyone still struggling, definitely try downloading the official EDD mobile app first before going through the phone gauntlet. It seems like whatever bug is affecting the website doesn't impact the mobile app's password reset function. Such a simple solution that I never would have thought of without this community! Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and solutions - you've probably saved hundreds of people countless hours of frustration. This thread should honestly be pinned as a resource for anyone dealing with EDD login issues!

This is such great news! Another mobile app success story - that's definitely seeming like the most reliable workaround right now. I just downloaded the app myself after reading everyone's experiences and I'm going to try the password reset tonight. It's amazing how a simple app can bypass whatever glitch is plaguing the main website. Really appreciate you taking the time to report back with your success - these updates are so encouraging for those of us still stuck in the login nightmare. This whole thread has been like a masterclass in actually solving EDD problems instead of just complaining about them!

Wow, this thread is exactly what I needed to find! I've been stuck in the same login nightmare for about a week now - getting the "incorrect password" error even though I'm 100% sure I'm entering it correctly, and the password reset emails never show up (checked spam, tried different email addresses, the whole deal). After reading through everyone's experiences, I'm definitely going to try the mobile app approach first since so many people have had success with that method recently. It's honestly mind-blowing that a simple app download might solve what's been driving me crazy for days! If that doesn't work, I've got the backup plan from all your advice: call the tech support line (1-833-978-2511) at exactly 8am with Option 1 then Option 2, and if all else fails, contact my assembly member. This community is incredible - getting actual working solutions here instead of the usual "have you tried turning it off and on again" responses. Thank you especially to @Emma Davis for sharing your success story step-by-step, @Connor Byrne for the mobile app tip, and @Ravi Sharma for explaining what's actually happening with the system. Will definitely report back with results!
