EDD payment timeline after eligibility interview - waiting since April 8th
I submitted my unemployment claim on April 8th, but my eligibility interview isn't scheduled until the 23rd (two weeks away). Has anyone gone through this process recently? I'm trying to figure out how long after the interview I'll actually start getting payments. My rent is due May 1st, and I'm getting worried about covering it. This is my first time on unemployment and the timeline seems really stretched out. Will I get paid for the weeks I've been certifying while waiting for the interview? Or does the money only start coming after the interview?

After your interview, if everything goes smoothly and you're approved, you can expect payment within 24-48 hours. EDD will pay you for all the weeks you've been certifying while waiting, assuming you meet all eligibility requirements. The backpay should come through as a lump sum. But just make sure you keep certifying every two weeks, even before your interview! Some people get approved without even needing the interview, but since yours is already scheduled, just be prepared with any documentation about your separation from employment.

•Thanks for this info! That's a relief to hear I'll get backpay for the weeks I've been certifying. Do you know if there's any way to prepare for the interview? Like what kind of questions they'll ask? I was laid off due to department restructuring, so I'm hoping it's straightforward.

•That's fast! Did they deposit directly to your account or did you get the Money Network card?

MY INTERVIEW WAS SCHEDUALED FOR THE 17TH AND THEY NEVER EVEN CALLED ME!! Then I suddenly got all my payments 3 days later. The whole system is broken and makes no sense. I spent HOURS trying to call and figure out what happened. Don't count on anything going according to there "schedule".

•Same thing happened to my cousin! They never called but then he just got paid anyway. EDD is so random sometimes, I swear

•This happens pretty often actually. If they can verify your eligibility through employer records before the interview date, they'll just approve your claim without the call. It's actually a good thing! But definitely keep that interview time slot open just in case.

•If you're still stuck on pending after your interview, you should try using Claimyr to connect with an EDD rep. I was in the same situation last month - couldn't get through for weeks. Claimyr got me connected to a rep in about 20 minutes who fixed my pending payments on the spot. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

Here's what you need to know about the timeline: 1. After your interview on the 23rd, if approved, your pending certifications typically change to paid within 24-72 hours 2. If you selected direct deposit, funds usually appear 1-2 business days after the status changes to paid 3. If you're getting the Money Network card and this is your first payment, add 7-10 business days for the card to arrive by mail 4. You absolutely will receive payment for all weeks you've certified correctly, dating back to your claim filing date (assuming you're eligible) For the interview itself, be prepared to explain exactly why you're no longer employed. Since you mentioned a department restructuring, have any documentation ready (severance letter, layoff notice, etc.). The interviewer will likely ask about your availability for work and job search activities too.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I have my layoff notice from HR so I'll have that ready. Since the interview is on the 23rd and rent is due on the 1st, sounds like I might just make it if everything goes smoothly and I selected direct deposit (which I did). Fingers crossed!

One important thing nobody mentioned yet - sometimes the EDD interviewer will tell you right on the call if you're approved. If they do that, your payments usually process much faster. Make sure you answer their call on the 23rd! They typically call from a blocked/private number.

•Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely make sure I'm available all day for that call. Really hoping they approve me on the spot.

I just went through this in March. Applied March 5, interview March 18, got my first payment March 21. But then my second certification got stuck on pending for some reason and I had to call in to fix it. The whole process is so unpredictable honestly.
