EDD mix-up: SDI claim mistaken for UI, can't reach anyone for extension - help!
Hey everyone, I'm having some trouble with my disability claim. I initially filed for disability, but somehow they got it mixed up with unemployment. Now I'm trying to get an extension with a doctor's order, but I can't seem to reach anyone on the phone. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of mix-up? Any advice on how to get through to a real person?

Hey, has anyone had luck with the online portal? I've been trying to use it but keep getting error messages.

The online portal is a nightmare. Half the time it doesn't even load for me.

Try clearing your cache and cookies. Worked for me when I was having issues.

Also, try using a different browser. Sometimes that can solve the problem.

I tried Claimyr, and while it did connect me, I feel like we should all fight for a system that doesn't charge us to speak to a representative.

Totally agree. We pay taxes for these services, and they should be responsive.

Pro tip: if you get through to someone but they can't help, ask them to transfer you instead of hanging up and starting over. Sometimes you can bypass the wait that way.

This is a great strategy. Always try to get transferred rather than starting from scratch!

Ugh, I feel your pain. The system is so messed up rn. I've been trying to get through for weeks. It's like they don't want us to actually talk to anyone 🙄

I totally agree. It's like they designed the system to be as frustrating as possible.

Does anyone know if there's a way to escalate our cases? Like is there a supervisor we can talk to or something?

Tobias Lancaster
Good luck with that. I asked for a supervisor once and was on hold for 3 hours before getting disconnected.

If you find out, let me know! I'd love to speak to someone who can actually make decisions.

You might try asking for a 'tier 2' representative. Sometimes they're more equipped to handle complex issues.

This is why we need to overhaul the entire system. It's not fit for purpose anymore. Who's with me? ✊

100% agree. But good luck getting politicians to care about fixing it 🙄

Careful what you wish for. Last time they "overhauled" it, it got even worse!

True. Overhauling a system can bring more problems if not done thoughtfully.

I'm in the same boat, buddy. Been trying to get my claim sorted for weeks. Feels like I'm screaming into the void. Hang in there! 🚣♂️

Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

Oliver Brown
Yeah, I've tried that. No luck so far. It's so frustrating!

I've had better luck calling late in the day, like 30 mins before they close. Sometimes the queue is shorter then.

Have you tried reaching out on social media? Sometimes tweeting at them or messaging on Facebook can get a response.

Really? I'll give that a try. Thanks for the tip!

Social media can be hit or miss, but sometimes it gets the ball rolling faster than traditional methods.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. (https://claimyr.com

Sounds sketchy. Is it legit?

$20?! That's ridiculous. We shouldn't have to pay to talk to someone about our benefits.

I know it sounds weird, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imho.

I've tried Claimyr too and it worked for me. It's not ideal to pay, but at least it gets you through.

Unpopular opinion: maybe we should all just show up at the EDD office in person. They can't ignore us then, right?

Lol, imagine the chaos. But honestly, I'm desperate enough to try it at this point.

lol good luck. EDD is a joke. I've been waiting 3 months for them to fix a "system error" on my claim. Might as well be talking to a brick wall.

Have you tried faxing your doctor's order? Sometimes that gets through faster than calling.

Faxing? What year is it, 1995? 😂 But seriously, I'll give it a shot. Do you know the fax number?

Here's what you need to do to fix the mix-up between disability and unemployment: 1. Document everything: Write down all the dates you filed, any confirmation numbers, and details of your attempts to contact them. 2. Contact your local assemblymember or state senator's office. They often have liaisons who can help with EDD issues. 3. File a formal appeal if your claim was denied or misclassified. You have 30 days from the date of the decision to do this. 4. Keep trying to reach EDD by phone. Use the disability-specific number if you haven't already. 5. If you have online access, send a message through your EDD account explaining the situation. 6. Consider seeking help from a disability rights organization or legal aid if the issue persists. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up! The system is overwhelmed, but you have the right to receive the correct benefits.

Hey OP, make sure you keep detailed records of all your attempts to contact them. It might help your case if you need to appeal or escalate the issue later.
