EDD claim open for 6 weeks, no money received after quitting due to long commute. Help!
I had to quit my job because of a crazy long commute. It was like 2 hours each way and I was just exhausted. I explained to them that I was only there temporarily to help out until they found a permanent person. Now I've got an unemployment claim open but I haven't gotten any money for 6 weeks. Has anyone else dealt with this? The claim is supposed to be good until next year but I'm getting worried.

Ugh, that sucks. The EDD can be such a pain to deal with. Have you tried calling them to see what's going on with your claim?

I've been trying to call but it's impossible to get through. It's so frustrating!

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 minutes on hold that way.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a shot tomorrow morning.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

How long did you have to wait for the callback?

It took about 2 hours for me, but I've heard it can vary. Still way better than trying to call yourself!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but voluntarily quitting might disqualify you from benefits. Did you explain the situation fully when you filed?

Oh no, really? I did explain everything when I filed. I thought since it was a temporary position it would be okay. Now I'm really worried. 😰

Don't panic yet! Sometimes they just need more info. Def try to get someone on the phone to explain your situation.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Write down dates, times, and details of all your attempts to contact EDD. 2. Keep checking your UI Online account for any updates or requests for additional info. 3. Try contacting your local state representative. They can sometimes help push things along. 4. If you're really in a bind, look into local food banks or rental assistance programs while you wait. 5. Don't give up! Keep trying to reach EDD. Use that Claimyr service if you have to. Remember, even if there's a delay, you should eventually get backpay for all the weeks you were eligible. Hang in there!

I had a similar issue last year. Turns out they flagged my account for "voluntary quit" and needed more info. Once I got through and explained, it took about 2 more weeks to start getting paid. Dont lose hope!

That's reassuring to hear. Did you have to provide any additional documentation?

Yeah, they asked for a written statement explaining why I quit and any supporting evidence. I sent them copies of emails showing the commute issues.

This is why we need universal basic income. The whole system is a joke.
