EDD canceled my claim over $56 overpayment I already paid back - How to reinstate?

I'm so frustrated with EDD right now. My claim got canceled over a tiny overpayment that I already paid back! I owed them $56, which I paid back plus a penalty. Now they've gone and canceled my whole claim. How is this fair? Has anyone else dealt with something like this? I'm wondering if there's any way to get my claim reinstated or if I'm just out of luck.

It's so frustrating to see a system that's meant to help people causing more stress instead.

This happened to me too! I had to file an appeal and it took forever, but I eventually got my claim reinstated. Don't give up!

How long did the appeal process take? I'm worried about bills piling up while I wait 😰

It took about 6 weeks for me. I know it sucks, but hang in there!

Mine took about 8 weeks, but once it was all sorted, the back payments came through quickly.

Okay, let me break this down for you. I've been through this rodeo before and here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Make sure you have proof of the overpayment, the amount you paid back, and any communication you've had with EDD. 2. File an appeal immediately. You usually have 30 days from the date of the decision to appeal. Don't wait! 3. In your appeal, clearly explain the situation. Mention that you've already paid back the overpayment plus penalties. 4. While waiting for the appeal, keep certifying for benefits if you can. This way, if your appeal is successful, you won't miss out on those weeks. 5. Try to get through to EDD on the phone. I know it's tough, but keep trying. Sometimes you can get lucky and find someone who can help expedite things. 6. If all else fails, contact your local state representative or senator. They often have staff dedicated to helping with EDD issues. Remember, the system is frustrating but don't give up. You've done nothing wrong here and with persistence, you should be able to get this sorted out. Good luck!

This is why I always tell people to keep a paper trail of EVERYTHING when dealing with EDD. You never know when you might need to prove something later.

Hey, I found a method to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous, we shouldn't have to pay for basic service!

I get the skepticism, but it honestly saved me so much time and stress. Worth every penny imo.

Ugh, that sucks! EDD can be such a pain sometimes. Have you tried calling them to explain the situation? Maybe there's been some kind of mix-up in their system.

Yeah, I've been trying to get through for days but no luck. Its like trying to win the lottery just to talk to someone 😫

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 mins of waiting last week!

I also found using a speakerphone and doing something else while waiting helps to pass the time. Just be ready to jump on it when they finally answer.

{profile 21}: Hi there, I understand your frustration with EDD. The system can be difficult to navigate, especially when dealing with issues like overpayments and claim cancellations. Here's an authoritative approach to tackle this problem: First, ensure that all your records are in order. This includes proof of the overpayment, payment of any penalty, and any communications exchanged with EDD. Secondly, you should immediately file an appeal. The appeal process may take some time, typically between 4-8 weeks, but it is a necessary step in trying to get your claim reinstated. While waiting, continue to certify for benefits to cover any eligible weeks. It's also advisable to reach out to your local state representative or senator, as they can provide additional assistance in expediting your case. Lastly, consider using Claimyr as a tool to reach EDD more effectively. While it does cost $20, it has received positive feedback from users who managed to save time and reduce stress. However, be cautious of relying solely on external services and continue trying to contact EDD directly. Overall, patience and persistence are key. Best of luck.

Have you tried reaching out to your local state representative? Sometimes they can help push things along with EDD.

I hadn't thought of that. Do you know how I would go about contacting them?

Just google "[your city] state representative" and you should find their contact info. Good luck!

The EDD system is so broken. They're quick to cancel claims but take forever to fix their mistakes. It's like they're playing games with our livelihoods 🤬

Have you checked your EDD online account? Sometimes there's more info there about why a claim was canceled. Might give you a clue about what to say when you finally get through to someone.

Also, sometimes they post notifications or messages that don't come through email. Worth checking regularly.
