EDD Virtual CalJOBS Appointment - How long does the link last?

I just got a notification that I need to schedule a virtual appointment with CalJOBS as part of my work search requirements. Has anyone done this recently? I'm worried because I work irregular shifts at my part-time job and might miss the appointment notification. How long do these virtual appointments usually take? And more importantly, how long do I have to click on the appointment link once they send it? Will it expire after a certain time? I don't want to get a 'failure to participate' mark on my claim because I didn't see the email right away.

I had my CalJOBS virtual appointment last month. The actual appointment took about 45 minutes. They go through your work search efforts, update your resume in the system, and suggest some job matching options. As for the link, they usually send it 24 hours before your scheduled time, and it's valid until about 10 minutes after your appointment time. If you miss it, you'll have to reschedule, which could delay your benefits. Make sure your email notifications are turned on!

Thanks so much! That helps a lot. Do they send the link through UI Online or to my email? I've been checking both obsessively but haven't received anything yet even though my appointment is supposedly next week.

mine only took like 30 min tbh. pretty basic stuff. they just wanna make sure ur actually looking for work. but dont be late!! my buddy missed his and got his payments stopped for like 3 weeks while he sorted it out

Yikes, 3 weeks without payment would be a disaster for me right now. I'll definitely make sure I'm on time. Thanks for the warning!

The CalJOBS appointment links are typically sent via email AND appear in your UI Online inbox. The link remains active for approximately 2 hours after your scheduled appointment time, but I'd strongly recommend joining within 5 minutes of your start time. The system logs your entry time, and being significantly late can sometimes be recorded as a "no-show." The appointments themselves vary in length based on your specific situation - anywhere from 30-60 minutes. If you have an updated resume and can show good documentation of your work search activities, it tends to go much faster. They'll review: - Your work search documentation - Your CalJOBS profile completeness - Your resume effectiveness - Any barriers to employment you might have Make sure to have examples of jobs you've applied to ready to discuss.

This is super helpful, thank you! I've been applying to jobs but haven't been great about keeping detailed records. Should I go back and try to document everything before the appointment? Or will they just want to see recent applications?

Anyone here ever tried Claimyr to reach EDD directly? When I had issues with my CalJOBS appointment getting rescheduled without notice, I couldn't get through to anyone on the regular line for DAYS. Used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an actual EDD agent in about 20 minutes who fixed everything. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Saved me from missing another appointment and getting my payments stopped.

is that service legit? seems sketchy that u have to pay to talk to EDD when its supposed to be a free government service.

It's completely legit. They don't replace EDD - they just get you through the phone system. You still talk directly to actual EDD agents. I was skeptical too but after trying to call for 3 days straight with no luck, I was desperate. Better than losing weeks of benefits waiting for someone to pick up.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO FAIL US!!! I had a CalJOBS appointment scheduled, took time off work (yeah, I'm working part-time but still need UI to survive), and then sat there for 45 MINUTES before the "specialist" finally joined the call. Then they had the NERVE to say I didn't have enough work search activities!!! Even though I've applied to like 20 jobs!!! THEY DON'T EVEN TELL YOU EXACTLY WHAT COUNTS AS "SUFFICIENT" WORK SEARCH!!! Just vague guidelines so they can deny you later!!!!

That sounds really frustrating! Did they end up accepting your work search activities or did they put a hold on your claim? I'm worried because I've only been applying to jobs in my field, not just anything available.

They put me on "conditional approval" whatever that means. Had to do some online workshop and document EVERY SINGLE JOB SEARCH with screenshots, confirmation emails, everything. Such a waste of time when I could be actually LOOKING for jobs! But if you don't do it exactly how they want, they'll cut you off in a heartbeat. The system is rigged.

I've had two CalJOBS appointments in the past six months. Here's my experience: 1. Appointment length: 30-45 minutes typically 2. Link validity: Sent 24 hours before, valid until about 15-20 minutes after scheduled time 3. Link location: Check both email AND UI Online messages 4. Documentation needed: Have your work search log ready (at least 3 job applications per week) 5. Resume: They'll review your CalJOBS resume, so update it beforehand One tip: If you have a genuine scheduling conflict, call them BEFORE the appointment to reschedule. Once you miss it, it's much harder to fix without payment interruptions.

Thanks for laying it out so clearly! I have a follow-up question - do they need to see proof of the jobs I've applied to (like confirmation emails) during the actual appointment? Or do they just ask me to verbally describe my work search efforts?

In my experience, they just asked me to describe my work search efforts during the appointment, but they may ask you to share your screen to show your CalJOBS account activities. I would keep confirmation emails handy just in case. Different representatives have different approaches. Better to be over-prepared than caught off guard!

Yes, you absolutely need to maintain a work search log. While EDD doesn't review everyone's documentation, they can request proof of work search activities at any time, especially during eligibility interviews or CalJOBS appointments. Without this documentation, you risk disqualification and potential overpayment assessments. I'd recommend immediately starting to document your activities and try to reconstruct previous weeks as best you can.

i had my caljobs thing last week. honestly it was pretty chill. lady just wanted to see that i was actually applying for jobs and not just sitting around. appointment was like 40 min but felt shorter. they sent the link day before and i clicked it right at my appointment time. no problems. dont stress too much about it

That's reassuring to hear! Did they give you any feedback on your job search or was it more of a checkbox thing they had to complete?

little bit of both. they suggested i tweak my resume (more keywords or something) and told me about some job fairs coming up. but mostly felt like they were just checking a box that i wasnt committing fraud lol
