Anyone know an EDD phone number shortcut to get through faster?
I've been calling the EDD phone number for 6 days straight and I'm going insane. Takes forever to get through all the menu prompts and then I just get the 'we're too busy' message. I heard there might be some kind of shortcut or way to skip parts of the phone menu? Has anyone figured out a faster way to navigate their system? I can't keep spending my entire morning just pressing buttons.

Yes! Press all the menu options BEFORE the prompts finish. So dial 1 immediately when you hear the first menu, don't wait for it to finish talking. Same with 1-1-***. You can save like 30 seconds per call which adds up when you're redialing 50+ times.

•Wait seriously? You can interrupt the prompts? I've been sitting through that whole 2 minute speech every single time!

•This works! I cut my menu time from 2 minutes down to about 45 seconds. Still takes forever to get through but every second counts.

•This is a game changer! I had no idea you could skip ahead like that. I've been wasting so much time listening to the full prompts. Going to try this first thing tomorrow morning - thanks for the tip!

•This is brilliant advice! I've been torturing myself listening to those endless prompts. Just tried this method and you're right - you can press the numbers way before the voice finishes talking. Saved me probably 45 seconds per call. Small victory but when you're making 50+ attempts it really adds up. Thanks for sharing this!

•This is such a simple but effective tip! I've been wasting probably 3-4 minutes per call listening to all those prompts. Just tried pressing the numbers early and it works perfectly - cut my navigation time almost in half. When you're making 40+ attempts a day, those saved minutes really add up to hours. Thanks for sharing this hack!

•This is incredibly helpful! I've been sitting through those complete menu prompts like a fool for days. Just tried your method and you're absolutely right - you can start entering the sequence way before the voice finishes talking. Cut my navigation time from over 2 minutes down to about 40 seconds. When you're making 30+ attempts per day, that time really adds up. This one tip alone probably saves me an hour of listening to menus. Thank you so much for sharing this!

The real shortcut is don't call between 12pm and 1:30pm. The ENTIRE call center goes to lunch and nobody answers. Wasted so many attempts during that window.

•This! And also don't bother calling after 4pm. They seem to stop taking new calls even though they're supposedly open until 5.

•Are you kidding me? They all take lunch at the exact same time? No wonder I couldn't get through yesterday afternoon.

Honestly after trying all the shortcuts and tricks for weeks, I ended up using Claimyr. Yeah it costs money but I got a callback in 23 minutes instead of spending all day redialing. Sometimes you gotta pay to save your sanity.

•How much does Claimyr cost? I'm spending so much on coffee and stress at this point that paying might actually save money.

•It's like $20-40 depending on the line. Worth every penny when you consider I was calling 8 hours a day for 2 weeks straight. Check out claimyr.com

•I was skeptical about Claimyr but tried it last week. Got connected to an actual human in 35 minutes. Best money I ever spent on this whole unemployment mess.

The pattern is: call (800) 300-5616, press 1 for English, wait exactly 1 minute 10 seconds, then press 1-1-***. But here's the thing - you can start pressing those numbers earlier each time you call to find the sweet spot.

Connor Richards
•Why do you wait 1 minute 10 seconds? I've been waiting for the full prompt every time like an idiot.

Zoe Wang
•That's just the minimum time before you can enter the next part. But experiment with pressing earlier - sometimes you can shave off 20-30 seconds total.

Wednesday afternoons around 2pm seem to be the sweet spot. Mondays are absolutely impossible and Friday afternoons are pointless because even if you get through, they won't resolve anything before the weekend.

•Tuesday mornings work too but you have to start calling right at 8am. I mean have your coffee ready and start dialing at 7:58am.

•I've had the most luck Thursday mornings between 10-11am. Seems like people give up by then so less competition.

Don't waste time with the 833 number vs 800 number thing. They're the EXACT same line despite what people say online. I tested this by calling both simultaneously on different phones - same hold music, same wait times.

•What about that specialist line everyone talks about? Is that real?

•The specialist line got discontinued during COVID. Anyone still mentioning it is giving outdated info.

Pro tip: use speaker phone and mute yourself while redialing. Save your voice and sanity. Also keep a tally of attempts - I'm at 127 calls this week and finally got on hold once (call dropped after 90 minutes).

Isabella Tucker
•127 calls?! Dude that's insane. How do you even have time for anything else?

•I don't. This is literally my full time job right now. My unemployment ran out and I need to talk to someone about an extension.

•This is exactly why I bit the bullet and used a callback service. Life's too short to spend it redialing government phone numbers.

The biggest shortcut is honestly just accepting that manual calling doesn't work anymore. I tried for 3 weeks, called over 400 times, got on hold 3 times and all 3 calls dropped. Finally used Claimyr and talked to someone in under an hour.

Madeline Blaze
•400 times?? How is that even possible? This system is completely broken.
0 coins
Lucy Lam
•Yeah I kept a spreadsheet. Best day was 67 attempts, worst was 89. The math just doesn't work in your favor with manual calling anymore.

Abby Marshall
•Wait, you called 400 times in 3 weeks? That's like 20 calls per day! I thought I was being excessive at 30 calls yesterday. This really puts into perspective how broken the system is. Thanks for sharing the actual numbers - helps me decide if I should just go straight to a callback service instead of torturing myself for weeks.

Here's what nobody tells you - even if you get through the menu and get on hold, there's like a 30-40% chance the call will just drop randomly. Happened to me twice after waiting over an hour each time.

Samantha Howard
•Yes! This is the worst part. Getting through the busy signal is hard enough, then you wait forever just to get disconnected.

•Their phone system is from like 1995. Probably can't handle the call volume they're getting.

Aidan Hudson
•This is exactly why services like Claimyr exist. They handle the redialing AND the hold time for you.

If you're going to try manual calling, set realistic expectations. Block out your entire day, have snacks ready, charge your phone, and prepare to call 50-100 times minimum just to get on hold. It's not a quick process anymore.

Ryan Vasquez
•This is depressing but accurate. I called 73 times yesterday and never even got the hold music.

•At what point do we just accept that the manual calling approach is dead? Maybe these callback services are the only realistic option now.

For anyone still trying to call manually - Wednesday 2-3pm is your best bet. Avoid Monday mornings completely (everyone calls then), avoid lunch 12-1:30pm (nobody answers), and don't bother after 4pm (they stop taking calls).

Taylor Chen
•Why Wednesday specifically? Is there data on this or just personal experience?

Avery Saint
•Personal experience plus patterns I've noticed. Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday seem to have shorter hold times when you do get through.

The real shortcut is admitting defeat and paying for help. I spent $35 on Claimyr after 2 weeks of failed calling. Got a callback with a live agent in 40 minutes. Sometimes you gotta invest in your mental health.

Ezra Bates
•$35 vs weeks of your life seems like a no-brainer when you put it that way. Did they actually solve your issue?

•Yep, got my claim sorted in one call. The agent was super helpful too. Here's their demo video if you want to see how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10

I keep seeing people mention callback services but I'm worried about scams. Is Claimyr actually legit? Seems too good to be true that you can just pay to skip the line.

LordCommander
•It's legit. You can Google them - they're based in San Francisco and have tons of reviews. They don't 'skip the line' - they just automate the calling process for you.

•I was skeptical too but they have a money-back guarantee. Used them last month and it worked exactly as advertised.

The menu shortcut is great but the real bottleneck is the 'we're too busy' message. No shortcut can fix that - you just have to keep redialing until you get lucky with timing.
0 coins
Brooklyn Foley
•Exactly. The menu takes 2 minutes, the redialing takes 2 hours. The shortcuts help but don't solve the core problem.

Jay Lincoln
•This is why I think the callback services make sense. They handle all the redialing automatically while you do other things.

Start calling at 7:55am sharp. Make your coffee the night before, set multiple alarms, and be ready to dial right before they open. Those first few minutes after 8am are your best shot at getting through.

Marcus Williams
•Do they actually answer calls before 8am or are you just getting ready for when they open?
0 coins
Jessica Suarez
•Just getting ready. But if you're not calling by 8:02am you've already missed the window. Those early minutes are crucial.
0 coins
Faith Kingston
•This is so true! I tried calling at 8:15am yesterday thinking I was being early and it was already impossible to get through. The competition for those first few minutes must be insane. Do you have any backup times that work if you miss the 8am window?
0 coins
ElectricDreamer
•If you miss the 8am window, try again around 10:30am and 2:30pm - those seem to be mini sweet spots when people give up for coffee breaks or lunch. But honestly, missing that first 8am rush usually means you're looking at hundreds of redials for the rest of the day.
