Account shows 'no new wages' - Do I need new EDD account or can I file by phone?

So frustrating right now! I was on unemployment back in 2023 and now I need to apply again. When I logged into my old UI Online account, I got this message saying "no new wages reported to unemployment department" and that I need to file either by phone or mail instead of online. Has anyone dealt with this before? Do I need to create a brand new account or can I still use my existing one? I've been calling the EDD number for 2 days straight and it's always just recordings or "all lines are busy" messages. I'm getting desperate because my last paycheck from my restaurant job was already gone on rent. Anyone know a way to actually talk to a real person at EDD?? 😫

You don't need a new account. This happened to me in February. The message means exactly what it says - they don't have any new wages on file for you since your last claim. If you worked somewhere that reports wages properly, you just need to submit a new claim by phone or mail as instructed. Phone is faster but impossible to get through. I mailed mine and it took 3 weeks just to get it processed.

3 WEEKS??? Omg I can't wait that long. Did you try to call them at all? What number did you use for your mail-in application?

The "no new wages" message is common if you're trying to file a new claim within 12 months of your previous claim ending. You don't need a new account, but you do need to file by phone or mail as instructed. The system is detecting that you don't have enough new wages since your last claim to qualify for a new online claim. To actually reach someone, try calling exactly at 8:01 AM when they open. Most people start calling at 8:00 and the system gets overwhelmed. Also, Wednesdays and Thursdays tend to have slightly lower call volumes in my experience.

Thanks for explaining! I'll try the 8:01 trick tomorrow. I definitely worked enough hours since my last claim ended, so maybe they just don't have the info yet?

I had this EXACT same issue in January!!! It was IMPOSSIBLE to get through on the phone for like two weeks straight. I would spend hours calling and just getting busy signals or automated messages saying they're at capacity. So frustrating!!!!!

This happens to literally EVERYONE. The EDD phone system is completely broken by design. They don't want to talk to us. It's their way of reducing claims by making it too frustrating to complete the process. I've been through this nightmare THREE TIMES since 2021.

Professional tip: What you're experiencing is normal and you don't need a new account. The message appears because the system doesn't detect sufficient new wages in their system to qualify for a new regular UI claim through the online portal. Possible reasons: 1. Your recent employer(s) haven't reported your wages yet 2. You didn't earn enough in your base period to qualify online 3. You're within the same benefit year as your previous claim The most efficient approach is filing by phone so an EDD representative can verify your recent employment details manually. I recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to EDD. They have a service that helps you bypass the busy signals and connect with a real agent. Saved me hours of frustration. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Once you connect with an agent, have your employment history for the past 18 months ready with employer names, addresses, and dates worked.

That service sounds like exactly what I need! Has anyone else used it? I'm willing to try anything at this point because I've called like 30 times today alone.

I used Claimyr in March and it actually worked! Got through to an agent in about 20 minutes after spending 3 days trying on my own. The rep was able to file my claim over the phone and explained that my employer from my seasonal job hadn't reported my wages yet, which is why the online system wouldn't let me file.

By the way, if you do end up mailing in your application, make sure you send it certified mail with tracking. My friend's application got "lost" and she had to start all over after waiting a month. The EDD mail processing is a disaster right now.

I've been calling the 800 number! Is the 833 one different? I'll try anything at this point.

To follow up on my earlier comment: If you do manage to speak with a representative, ask them to check if your wages are actually in the system but just not showing in your online account. Sometimes there's a disconnect between what the online portal shows and what the reps can see in their system. Also, make sure you're filing within the appropriate timeframe. If you're filing more than 30 days after your last day of work, you'll need to provide good cause for the late filing. Lastly, while on the phone with them, ask if you're eligible for a "continued claim" rather than a completely new claim. This might be faster to process depending on your situation.

Thank you so much for all this info! I lost my job just 2 weeks ago so I should be within the timeframe. I'll definitely ask about the continued claim option - didn't even know that was a thing!

did u try the online chat thing on the edd website? sometimes u can get help there faster than calling

The chat bot is USELESS for anything more complicated than password resets. It'll just tell you to call the same number everyone's complaining about not being able to get through on. Classic EDD runaround.

After I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned above, the EDD agent told me the "no new wages" message can also happen if your previous claim was filed under a special program (like the pandemic assistance) and now you're eligible for regular UI. The systems don't always talk to each other correctly. The phone rep was able to see all my wages even though the online system couldn't. Got everything fixed in one call once I actually reached someone.

That makes sense! My previous claim was during the pandemic. I'll definitely try to get through to someone on the phone. Thanks for the insight!
