EDD account locked - need IT number to file new claim after layoff
Just got laid off yesterday and trying to file a new unemployment claim, but I'm completely locked out of my UI Online account. It keeps saying 'access denied' when I try to login, even after trying the password reset option. I haven't had to deal with EDD since the early Covid days (2020) so I'm guessing my account is either deactivated or something's changed in their system. Does anyone know if there's a specific IT support number for EDD login issues? The regular customer service line just puts me in an endless queue. I really need to file this new claim ASAP since my last paycheck won't cover next month's rent. Any help would be seriously appreciated!

•Thanks! Did you actually manage to get through to anyone on that number? How long did it take?

The IT support number is 1-833-978-2511, but honestly they're almost as hard to reach as the regular line. Try these steps first before calling: 1. Clear your browser cache completely 2. Try a different browser entirely (Firefox works better than Chrome with the EDD site) 3. Check if you have any old emails from EDD that might have account recovery instructions 4. Use the "Forgot Password" but also the "Forgot Username" options - sometimes the issue is that your username has changed If you've been locked out since the Covid era, they might have implemented the ID.me verification in the meantime which requires a complete account verification. You might need to create a new ID.me account and link it to your EDD profile.

•Thank you for the detailed help! I just tried Firefox and still getting the same error, but I'll try the other steps. I didn't know about the ID.me thing - is that something I can set up before calling them?

I had the exact same problem after being locked out for years. The online password reset won't work if your account is in a certain locked state. In my experience, this is typically what happens when accounts have been inactive for long periods (especially since pre-COVID). You'll almost certainly need to speak with an EDD representative to manually unlock your account. They might need to verify your identity again and potentially have you create a new ID.me profile as mentioned above. If you're having trouble getting through on the phone lines, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have a service that helps you get through to an EDD representative much faster. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked for me after days of failed calling attempts. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME with the regular EDD number!!! I spent TWO WEEKS trying to get thru after being locked out. The tech support line isnt any better. They transfered me 3 times and then hung up on me!!!! The whole system is DESIGNED to keep you from getting help. Honestly your best bet is to go to an actual EDD office in person if you can. Bring ID and all your documents. Thats the ONLY way I finally got my account fixed.

•Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. The nearest office is like 45 minutes away. Did you need an appointment or could you just walk in?

You need an appointment most places now. Check the website for your local office. Some have walk-in hours but you'll wait FOREVER.

Evrybody here is missing somethng important - if your filing a NEW claim aftr being locked out a while, you might actually WANT to create a brand new account instead of trying to fix the old one. Thats what the rep told me to do when I got laid off last year after not using EDD since 2019. She said if its a completely new claim period (not a continued claim) sometimes its faster to just make a new UI online registration. But you still need to talk to someone to make sure your not creating problems with your claim history.

•That's interesting - I tried making a new account but it said my SSN was already associated with an existing account. So I think I'm stuck needing to get the old one unlocked somehow.

To answer the question about Claimyr - yes, it's legitimate. It basically automates the call process to get you through to a representative faster. I was able to get through in about 25 minutes when I'd spent days trying on my own with no success. Regarding creating a new account vs. unlocking an old one - you're right that the system won't let you create a truly new account with the same SSN. What the representative can do is reset your existing account to allow you to create fresh login credentials. It's essentially recreating your online access while maintaining your claim history.

I had this issue too! Forgot to mention something important - check if your ID.me account is locked too. Sometimes when you haven't logged in for a long time both accounts get security locked. Go to ID.me first and make sure you can login there, then try EDD again. Might save you a phone call!

•I don't think I ever set up an ID.me account - this was back before that was required. How do I check if I have one?

If you filed your last claim before ID.me was implemented (around mid-2020), then you wouldn't have an account with them yet. In that case, you'll definitely need to speak with an EDD representative to help link a new ID.me verification to your existing EDD account. Once you get through to someone, be sure to mention specifically: 1. When you last filed a claim (pre-COVID) 2. That you're trying to file a new claim after being laid off 3. That you need help with both account access and the ID.me verification process The representative should be able to guide you through the ID.me setup and then reactivate your UI Online access afterward. They can also help ensure your new claim is properly filed even while your online access is being restored.
