EDD SDI claim stuck for a month - Tips to reach someone at CA disability?

Has anyone else been stuck in EDD limbo? My disability claim has been pending for over a month now and I'm getting desperate. I tried calling but somehow got connected to unemployment instead of disability. The whole system seems like a mess. Any advice on how to actually reach someone who can help?

Update: I tried calling this morning using the method @profile10 suggested. It took about 25 tries, but I FINALLY got through to a real person! They said my claim was stuck due to a system glitch and they've escalated it for review. Should be processed within 5-7 business days. Fingers crossed! 🤞 Thanks everyone for your help and support!

5-7 business days in EDD time is like 2-3 months in real time. But hey, progress is progress!

Fingers crossed! It’s important to celebrate the small victories in this process.

Anyone else feel like they're trapped in a Kafka novel trying to deal with EDD? 📚🐛

I had to google what Kafka was but now I'm dying 💀 So accurate!

It's a fitting analogy! Sometimes dealing with bureaucratic systems really does feel surreal.

EDD benefits hit zero before benefit year ends - how to reopen claim or extend benefits?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. My unemployment benefits just hit zero, but my benefit year doesn't end until December. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm thinking I need to reopen my claim or something, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Any advice on what to say when I finally get through to EDD? This whole system is so confusing!

have u tried faxing them? I know it sounds old school but I got a response within a week when I faxed my issue

Hey, don't knock it till you try it! Sometimes old school works 🤷‍♂️

Old methods like faxing can sometimes bypass the digital backlog. It's worth considering if you're not making progress elsewhere.

Have you considered looking for part-time work? Might help bridge the gap until December. Just a thought!

This! I started driving for Uber when my benefits ran out. It's not great, but it's something.

Freelancing or gig work can sometimes fill the gap temporarily. Keep looking, something might click soon.

EDD Claim Filed 2 Weeks Ago - No Response Yet. Normal Wait Time?

I filed my unemployment claim on June 12th and haven't received any letters or notices from EDD yet. It's been a couple weeks now and I'm getting worried. Has anyone else experienced this? How long does it usually take to hear back from them? I'm not sure if I should call or just keep waiting.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. (https://claimyr.com

@profile 13 Yeah, you schedule a time slot. They call the EDD, navigate the menu, and wait on hold. When an agent picks up, they forward the call to your phone. It's pretty slick.

While Claimyr might be convenient, it's always wise to weigh the cost versus the benefit. For some, it might be worth it, especially if EDD communication delays are affecting finances.

Pro tip: if you do end up calling, try right when they open or about an hour before they close. Those times seem to have shorter wait times in my experience.

Great tip! Timing can make all the difference in cutting down on wait times. It's little tricks like these that can save a lot of frustration.

EDD UI Disqualification for No Reason - What to Do?

Has anyone else been disqualified from unemployment benefits for no reason? I just got a notice saying I'm disqualified but I don't understand why. I've been following all the rules and reporting my income correctly. This is so frustrating! I really need this money to pay my bills. Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do now?

I went thru this last month. Turns out it was a "system error" on their end. 🙄 Keep calling and don't give up! Once you get someone on the phone, they can usually fix it pretty quick.

Honestly? Like 3 days of non-stop calling. It was hell. But worth it in the end.

0 coins

Glad it eventually worked out for you. The system seems to be unreliable for so many people.

The whole UI system needs a complete overhaul. It's not fit for purpose anymore. We should be writing to our representatives about this!

We gotta try tho. Strength in numbers and all that. If we all complain maybe theyll finally do smthing

Agreed! The more pressure we put on them, the more likely they are to act.

How to update address and reopen EDD claim? Tips for contacting CA unemployment office?

Hey everyone, I'm having some issues with my EDD claim and I need to make some changes. I need to update my address and reopen my claim, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Has anyone gone through this process recently? Any tips on how to get in touch with someone at EDD? I've been trying to call but no luck so far. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey OP, just a heads up - when you do get through, make sure you have all your docs ready. They'll probably ask for proof of your new address and maybe some ID verification stuff. Better to have it all on hand so you don't have to call back.

This might sound crazy, but has anyone tried faxing EDD? I remember reading somewhere that they still accept faxes and it might be faster than calling.

0 coins

I actually tried this! Sent a fax and got a response in about a week. Not super fast, but faster than trying to call.

That's interesting! Maybe it's worth a try if calling isn't working.
