Money Network card shows zero balance despite 'Paid' status on EDD - is this normal?

I certified for unemployment yesterday (Sunday) and checked my EDD portal which shows 'Paid' status for my weeks, but I'm confused because my Money Network EDD card account still shows $0 balance today. This is my first time using the Money Network card system and I'm totally lost. Is this delay normal? Does it usually take a day or two for funds to appear on the card after showing 'Paid' in the portal? \n\nI'm seriously considering switching to paper checks at this point because I've seen so many horror stories about the Money Network cards. Has anyone else dealt with this timing issue between EDD showing 'Paid' and the money actually showing up on the card? Any advice would be really helpful because I have bills due this week.

Great to hear! Yes, that 24-48 hour window is pretty standard. Now that you know what to expect, future certifications should be less stressful. Be sure to set up direct deposit from your Money Network account to your personal bank account if you prefer having the funds there instead of on the card.

Glad to see your update worked out! For future reference, I've found that certifying early in the week (Monday/Tuesday) tends to process faster than weekend certifications. The delay you experienced is totally normal - I've been using the Money Network card for about 6 months now and it's always that 1-2 day window. One tip: if you set up text notifications through the Money Network app, you'll get an alert as soon as the deposit hits, which saves you from constantly checking the balance!

EDD says payment issued but Money Network card not showing funds after 5 days - normal delay?

Hi everyone, I'm getting worried about my husband's unemployment payment. He previously collected EDD benefits in 2024 and still has his Money Network debit card. He filed a new claim this year (2025), which was approved after the standard waiting period. He certified for his first payable week, and UI Online shows 'paid' status for $532 as of five days ago. The problem is, nothing has shown up on his Money Network card yet! We checked the balance online and called the automated system - zero balance. Is this normal? Has anyone experienced longer delays with Money Network lately? I'm wondering if there's an issue with his old card or if we should contact EDD directly. We're counting on this money for our mortgage payment next week.

Update: I contacted EDD using Claimyr and got through in about 15 minutes. The representative explained that there was indeed a hold on the first payment of my new claim because I was using my card from last year. Apparently, they need to verify everything matches up between the old and new claim. The rep released the payment while I was on the phone, and the money showed up on my card about 24 hours later. Worth the time saved from trying to call repeatedly!

Thank you so much for the update! This is really helpful. We're going to try Claimyr tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed we get the same quick resolution you did!

I went through this exact same situation last month! My husband's payment showed "paid" on UI Online for over a week but nothing on the Money Network card. After reading all these comments, I want to add that you should also check if EDD sent any mail about a new card being issued - sometimes they don't notify you in the system. We ended up finding out they automatically sent a new card because his old one was flagged as "inactive" after 10 months of non-use, even though it wasn't expired. The new card arrived about 8 days after the payment showed as "paid." If you don't see anything in the mail by day 7, definitely use one of those callback services because the regular phone lines are impossible. Good luck!

EDD benefit year ending Sept 2025 but running out of funds early - possible to extend?

Hi everyone, I'm in a bit of a panic here. My unemployment claim is set to expire in September 2025, but I'm burning through my benefits way faster than expected due to only qualifying for the minimum weekly amount ($78). At this rate, I'll probably run out of funds by late May. I've been applying for jobs like crazy in the healthcare field after being laid off from my nursing assistant position, but the market is brutal right now. Does anyone know if there's a way to extend my claim once the money runs out but before the benefit year officially ends? Or am I just out of luck when the funds are gone? I know there used to be extensions during covid but not sure what's available now. Any advice would be really appreciated as I'm starting to worry about making rent this summer.

Thank you all for your help and advice! I've decided to: 1. Request a wage investigation to see if my benefit amount can be increased 2. Look into the rapid retraining programs at the local job center 3. Continue job searching but expand to related fields 4. Apply for CalFresh to help with food expenses I'll update if anything changes with my claim. Really appreciate everyone taking the time to share your knowledge and experiences!

Great plan of action, Roger! One additional resource to consider - many community colleges in California offer free career counseling services even if you're not enrolled. They can help you identify transferable skills from your nursing assistant background that might open doors in adjacent healthcare fields like medical office work, home health aide, or patient transport roles. Also, when you do that wage investigation, make sure to have any pay stubs or W-2s from both facilities ready. Sometimes smaller healthcare facilities don't report wages correctly to EDD, and having your own documentation can speed up the process. Good luck with everything!

EDD password reset stuck because I haven't received first payment yet

I'm totally stuck in this crazy EDD password reset loop and don't know what to do! Here's what happened: I filed my claim about 6 weeks ago and had to call in last week because nothing was happening with my payments. Finally got through to a rep who said she fixed whatever was holding things up and told me to keep certifying online. When I tried logging into UI Online yesterday, I couldn't remember my password (stupid me for not writing it down). So I clicked the reset password option and verified my email no problem. But then EDD asks these security questions including my SSN, DOB, and the amount of my FIRST PAYMENT. The problem is I HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANY PAYMENTS YET! So I tried putting in the weekly benefit amount from my award letter ($476) but the system rejected it. Then I tried $0.00 thinking maybe that would work since I haven't been paid, but nope! Now I'm stuck with the message saying to call EDD Tech Support. I've called about 35 times today and either get a busy signal or the recording saying they're at maximum capacity. Is there ANY way to reset my password without answering that payment question correctly? Or some other phone number I should be trying? I need to certify this Sunday and I'm panicking!

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm wondering which method ended up working for you. This could help others facing the same issue!

YES! Finally got it fixed this morning! I tried clearing my cache and cookies first, but still got stuck at the security questions. I ended up calling the 1-855 technical support number right at 7:58am like someone suggested, and amazingly got through after only about 20 minutes on hold. The tech support person confirmed that the system was asking for my first potential payment amount, but since I hadn't been paid yet, there was nothing in their system to match against. They had to transfer me to a tier 2 specialist who manually reset my password and stayed on the phone while I logged in to make sure it worked. I'm now able to access my account and can see that my first two weeks are actually showing as "paid" now, just waiting for the money to hit my account! Thanks everyone for all your help!

So glad to hear you got it resolved! This is a really common issue that trips up a lot of people. For anyone else who finds this thread in the future - the key takeaway is that calling right at 7:58am really does make a huge difference. I've had to do this multiple times over the years and that early morning window is golden. Also worth noting that tier 2 specialists are the ones who can actually override these system glitches, so don't be afraid to ask for escalation if the first person you talk to says they can't help. The password reset loop when you haven't received payments yet is definitely a known system bug on their end. Congrats on getting your payments sorted out too - that feeling when you finally see "paid" status is amazing after weeks of stress!

Will working part-time retail (16 hrs/week) affect my EDD benefits as a laid-off entertainment worker?

Just got laid off from my full-time position in television production last month due to industry budget cuts. I'm currently receiving $520/week in regular UI benefits, but I've been offered a part-time job at a local retail store (about 16 hours weekly at $19.50/hour). The retail gig includes an employee discount which would really help with expenses, but I'm nervous about how this might impact my unemployment. Will EDD reduce my benefits? By how much? Do I need to do anything special during certification? Really trying to avoid any overpayment issues while I continue searching for full-time work in my field. The entertainment industry is still super unstable right now.

That's actually really encouraging to hear! I hadn't thought about how this retail experience might look on my resume, but you're right - it does show initiative during a tough time in our industry. Thanks for sharing your experience!

As someone who's been through the UI partial benefits process multiple times, I'd strongly recommend keeping a simple spreadsheet or notebook to track your hours and earnings each week. It makes certification so much easier when you have everything organized. Also, don't stress too much about the calculation - the EDD system does the math automatically once you enter your gross wages. Just focus on reporting accurately and on time. The retail job sounds like a great bridge while you're looking for your next entertainment gig. The industry will bounce back!
