Based on everything in this thread, I think the most likely explanation is that EDD is processing conditional payments in batches, and your husband's other weeks should be coming soon. The 14-day guideline that others mentioned seems to be the key factor. I'd recommend: 1. Wait until both pending weeks have been pending for at least 14 days 2. If they don't switch to paid status within 2-3 days after that point, try to contact EDD 3. Make sure all certifications are completed with consistent answers 4. Check that there are no new messages or alerts in the UI Online account that might explain the delay In my experience, most conditional payments do process automatically, but sometimes they need a manual push from a representative.
I'm going through something very similar right now! Filed 4 weeks ago after being laid off from my retail job, and EDD said they'd do conditional payments while I wait for my eligibility interview. They paid me for 2 weeks but left 1 week pending with no explanation. It's been 16 days on that pending week now and still nothing. Reading through this thread makes me feel less alone - it seems like EDD's conditional payment system is just really inconsistent right now. I'm going to try some of the suggestions here like checking for any missed messages and maybe using that Claimyr service if I can't get through by phone. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!
UPDATE: I finally got through to EDD after using the Claimyr service (which worked really well btw). The rep confirmed my account was compromised, and someone had been certifying falsely since October. They've flagged my claim for fraud investigation and put a hold on the account. I've submitted all my work documentation and filed a police report. The agent said since I reported it myself and there's clear evidence of account compromise (failed payment method change attempts), I likely won't be held responsible for the overpayment. They're sending me formal paperwork to complete for the investigation. Thank you everyone for your help - I would've been lost without your advice!
Great update! Make sure to keep copies of all documentation you submit to EDD, record the names and ID numbers of representatives you speak with, and follow up regularly on your case. Fraud investigations can sometimes move slowly, so don't be afraid to check in every couple of weeks for status updates. I'm glad you were able to get this addressed quickly - catching it early makes a significant difference in these situations.
Wow, what a roller coaster! I'm so glad you figured out your account was compromised rather than just an overpayment issue. That makes such a huge difference in how EDD will handle this. I've been following your story and it's a great reminder for all of us to regularly check our UI Online accounts even when we're not actively claiming benefits. Account takeovers are becoming way more common unfortunately. Really smart of you to take screenshots of everything before making changes - that evidence will be crucial for your case. Hope the investigation goes smoothly and you get fully cleared soon!
My sister went thru this EXACT thing and they made her wait 5 WEEKS for an interview just to verify the layoff!!! Even tho she had the paperwork and everything!!! The system is such garbage. Make sure ur wife keeps certifying EVERY week even while waiting for the interview otherwise she'll have to backdate everything and that's a whole other nightmare!!!
Just wanted to add that if your wife's benefit year is close to expiring (like within a few weeks), it might actually be better to let it expire and file a completely new claim instead of reopening. This way those 8 weeks of work would count toward her base period for the new claim, potentially giving her a higher weekly benefit amount or extending her benefit period. You can check her benefit year end date in her UI Online account. If there's only a month or two left, it might be worth calculating whether a new claim would be more beneficial. The EDD can help with this calculation if you call, though as others mentioned, getting through can be challenging.
That's a really good point about checking the benefit year end date first! I hadn't thought about whether those 8 weeks might actually help her get a higher benefit amount on a new claim vs just reopening the old one. We'll definitely look at the dates in her account and maybe try to get through to EDD to run the numbers if it's close. Thanks for thinking of that angle!
Last resort option: if you absolutely cannot get through manually and need to resolve something urgent, services like Claimyr basically guarantee you'll talk to someone within an hour instead of maybe never getting through on your own.
I'm in the same boat in Fresno - been trying to reach EDD for over a week now with no success. Reading through all these comments, it sounds like the consensus is there's no local Fresno number anymore and we're all stuck with the main 800-300-5616 line. I'm going to try that Wednesday afternoon timing that several people mentioned, and maybe look into Claimyr if I can't get through by Friday. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - at least now I know I'm not missing some secret local number!

After trying everything with my claim last year, I finally contacted my state assembly member's office. They have special liaisons who work directly with EDD. Within 3 days of contacting them, my paperwork was magically "found" and processed. Might be worth trying if all else fails.

•That's a great idea I hadn't thought of! If I can't get through on the phone this week, I'll definitely try contacting my assembly member. Thanks for the suggestion!

I went through something similar with my SDI claim for a work injury about 6 months ago. The mail processing backlog is real - I ended up having to resend my paperwork twice before it finally got processed. Here's what worked for me: 1. Resend everything via certified mail with tracking (keep all receipts!) 2. Include a cover letter explaining this is a resubmission due to processing delays 3. Try calling the SDI line early in the morning (around 8:05 AM) - that's when I had the best luck getting through 4. If you have any medical appointments coming up, ask your doctor's office to fax records directly to EDD as backup The whole process took about 7 weeks total for me, but once it finally went through, I got all the back pay. Don't give up! The system is broken but your claim will eventually get processed. In the meantime, see if you can get any emergency assistance from local resources to help with bills.
