SDI keeps sending PFL info instead of disability - How to fix this mix-up?
I'm so frustrated with the SDI system right now. I applied for disability benefits, but they keep sending me info about paid family leave instead. I've already paid for disability, and now they're messing up my claim. I've been trying to get through to someone on the phone, but it's impossible. Has anyone else dealt with this? How did you get it sorted out? I really need to talk to a real person about this mix-up.

Ugh, I feel your pain. The SDI system is a total mess rn. I had a similar issue where they kept confusing my claim type. It took me weeks to get it straightened out. Have you tried sending them a message through your online account? Sometimes that works better than calling.

Yeah, I've tried messaging them online, but I just get generic responses. It's so frustrating! How long did it take you to finally get through to someone?

It took me about 3 weeks of constant trying. I ended up calling every single day, multiple times a day. It was exhausting, but I finally got through to someone who could help. Hang in there!

3 weeks?! That's insane. The system is totally broken. 🤦♂️

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Wow, that sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? How long did you have to wait?

It really does work! I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate. I got a call back in about 2 hours. Totally worth the $20 imo.

Idk man, paying to talk to a government agency feels wrong. Shouldn't this be free?

I get where you're coming from, but after weeks of trying to get through, I was willing to pay. It's not ideal, but it solved my problem.

Have you tried contacting your local assembly member's office? They sometimes have direct lines to EDD and can help push your case through faster.

This is why we need to overhaul the entire system. It's not just you, OP. Thousands of people are dealing with this bs every day. We need to put pressure on our representatives to fix this broken system!

Yeah but good luck with that. Politicians don't care about us regular folks 🙄

Here's what you need to do to get this sorted out: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your calls, messages, and attempts to contact SDI. 2. Write a formal appeal letter explaining the mix-up between disability and PFL. Be clear and concise. 3. Send the appeal letter via certified mail so you have proof they received it. 4. Simultaneously, try to reach out through multiple channels: phone, online messaging, and even social media. 5. Contact your local assembly member or state senator's office for assistance. 6. If all else fails, consider filing a complaint with the Department of Industrial Relations. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up, and keep pushing until you get the correct benefits. It's your right, and you've already paid into the system. Good luck!

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start working on that appeal letter right away. Do you have any tips for what specific info I should include?

Glad to help! In your appeal letter, make sure to include: - Your full name, SSN, and claim number - Dates of all interactions with SDI - Clear explanation of the mix-up (disability vs PFL) - Copies of any relevant documents or communications - Specific request for what you want them to do Keep it under 2 pages if possible. Good luck!

I had the exact same problem last year. It turned out there was a glitch in their system that was automatically categorizing certain claims as PFL instead of disability. Keep pushing and don't let them gaslight you into thinking it's your mistake!

Have you tried reaching out to them on Twitter? Sometimes public shaming works wonders 😈
