PFL payment pending for 5 weeks, no info from EDD, running out of savings. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm really struggling here. My PFL payment has been pending for almost 5 weeks now and I haven't heard anything from EDD. There's no claim status online either. I'm getting worried because my savings are limited and I don't want to blow through them. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on what I should do?

Ugh, I feel you. I was in the same boat last year. It's so frustrating when you're counting on that money and it just... doesn't come. Have you tried calling them? It's a pain, but sometimes that's the only way to get answers.

I've tried calling but can never get through. It's like hitting a brick wall every time. 😫

Pro tip: call right when they open. Like, set an alarm and everything. Sometimes you can get through if youre one of the first callers of the day.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact EDD. 2. Check your spam folder regularly. Sometimes important emails end up there. 3. Reach out to your local assembly member's office. They can often help push things along. 4. If you haven't already, file an appeal. This can sometimes kickstart the process. 5. Consider applying for emergency assistance through local charities or your county's social services while you wait. Remember, you're not alone in this. The system is overwhelmed, but keep pushing. Don't give up!

This is solid advice. I'd add: join Facebook groups for CA unemployment support. Lots of good info there too.

Have you checked if there's any missing information they need? Sometimes they don't tell you and just let the claim sit there incomplete.

I didn't even think of that! How would I check for missing info?

Log into your EDD account and look for any messages or alerts. Also check your mail carefully, they sometimes send requests for info via snail mail.

5 weeks? You sweet summer child. I've been waiting for 3 MONTHS. The system is completely broken.

PSA: If your claim is pending for more than 3 weeks, you have the right to request a determination interview. It's not widely known, but it's in the CA unemployment insurance code.

This is gold! Do you know how to request this interview?

You need to call and specifically ask for a 'Section 1326 determination interview'. Be prepared for the rep to not know what you're talking about at first. Insist politely.
