PFL deposit arrived but online claim status not updated - normal or problem?

I'm seriously confused right now. I just checked my bank account this morning and saw a deposit from EDD for my baby bonding PFL claim ($1,456). But when I log into my EDD online account, my claim still shows as 'pending review' with no updates or payment history showing the disbursement. Is this normal? Do deposits sometimes happen before the online system updates? I'm worried something is wrong and they might claim I wasn't supposed to get that money or something. Has anyone else experienced this timing mismatch? How long should I expect before the online status catches up?

omg yes this happened to me too!! got paid for 2 weeks of bonding time but online still said pending for like 3 more days. EDD systems never talk to each other lol

Oh thank goodness! Did your online account eventually update by itself or did you have to contact them?

This is completely normal with EDD PFL claims. Their payment processing system and their online portal operate on different schedules. Typically the online portal updates 2-4 business days after a payment is issued. You can verify the payment is legitimate by checking if the amount matches approximately 60-70% of your weekly wages (up to the maximum benefit amount). Just keep a record of the deposit for your files in case there are any questions later.

Thank you for explaining! The amount does match what I was expecting based on my salary. I'll wait a few days and see if it updates.

Are you SURE it's actually from EDD and not some scam?? When I was on maternity leave last year I got a fake deposit notification that turned out to be phishing. Double check that the deposit actually SAYS California EDD and has the right account numbers!!!!

I definitely checked and it's from the official CA EDD account - same one I got my disability payments from before switching to baby bonding. But thanks for the warning - scary to think scammers target new parents!

The same thing happened with my disability before I transitioned to baby bonding. The money shows up but the website doesn't update for a while. EDD runs on ancient technology from what I hear. As long as you have the money, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Their systems are just slow to sync up.

If you're worried about the deposit, you should call EDD directly to confirm. I spent days trying to get through their phone lines but finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 10 minutes. They confirmed my payment was legit even though my online account wasn't showing it yet. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5. I was skeptical but it actually worked when I was dealing with my transition from pregnancy disability to baby bonding.

The EDD payment system and their online portal operate on different databases that sync periodically rather than in real-time. This causes the delay you're experiencing. Typically the online portal will update within 2-5 business days after a payment is issued. A few technical points to be aware of: 1) The payment processing system operates 7 days a week 2) The online portal updates only on business days 3) If a payment is processed on Friday-Sunday, the portal may not update until Tuesday or Wednesday 4) During high-volume periods (like summer months when many people take baby bonding leave), these updates can be further delayed As long as the deposit amount matches what you expected for your weekly benefit amount, you should be fine. Keep a record of the deposit just in case.

This is super helpful information! I didn't realize they run on separate systems. I'll relax now and just keep an eye on the portal over the next few days.

The benefit calculation is the same for both Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL) and Paid Family Leave (PFL) for baby bonding - approximately 60-70% of your wages up to the maximum benefit amount. However, they are separate claims that require separate applications, and there can be a gap between them if you don't file the transition paperwork properly.

Update: My online portal finally updated this morning - 4 days after the deposit hit my account! Shows as "paid" now with the correct amount. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance. Seems like this delay is totally normal even if it's annoying!

Glad you got it sorted out! This is such a common source of stress for new parents dealing with EDD. For anyone else reading this thread - another tip is to take screenshots of your bank deposits when they arrive, just in case there are ever any discrepancies later. EDD's record-keeping isn't always perfect, so having your own documentation can save you headaches down the road. Enjoy your bonding time with your little one!
