FMLA benefits unpaid since Sept, timecard unprocessed for 2 months - hung up on when asking why

I've been trying to get my FMLA benefits for months now. I haven't been paid since September and I've been calling every day, sometimes hourly. Today, I finally got through to someone and they hung up on me when I asked why my timecard hasn't been processed for 2 months. This is so frustrating! Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to actually get someone to help?

Giovanni Greco

Ugh, I'm in the same boat. Been waiting since October for my benefits. It's like they don't even care about us. I've called so many times I've lost count. 😤

Have you tried reaching out to your local representative? Sometimes they can help push things along.

No, I haven't thought of that. Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a shot. 🙏

Local reps are hit or miss tbh. I tried and got a generic response after 3 weeks. 🙄

I found a method to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

20 bucks to maybe talk to someone? The system is so broken 🤡

I get it, but when you're desperate and need your benefits, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. 🤷‍♂️

Here's what worked for me: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your calls, who you spoke to, and what they said. 2. Send a written request (email or certified mail) asking for a status update on your claim. 3. If you don't hear back in 10 business days, file a complaint with the Department of Labor. 4. Reach out to your state representative or senator's office. They often have staff dedicated to helping with these issues. 5. Consider contacting a lawyer who specializes in FMLA cases if nothing else works. Stay persistent and don't give up. It's your right to receive these benefits!

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start documenting everything. Have you had success with contacting your state rep?

Yes, my state rep's office was actually really helpful. It took about 2 weeks, but they were able to escalate my case and get it resolved.

Have you tried faxing your timecard? Sometimes old school methods work better with these outdated systems. 📠

Faxing? What year is it? 😂 But seriously, I'll try anything at this point. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm an HR manager and I see this all the time. Unfortunately, FMLA claims can get really backed up, especially if there's any discrepancy in the paperwork. Make sure all your docs are in order and keep pushing. Good luck!

As an HR manager, do you have any insider tips for getting these claims processed faster?

Honestly, the best thing is to make sure your initial application is 100% complete and accurate. Any missing info can cause major delays. Also, follow up regularly but politely. The squeaky wheel often gets the grease.

This is why we need better labor laws smh. Other countries don't have these problems with their leave policies.

Preach! 🙌 It's embarrassing how far behind we are compared to other developed nations.

Plot twist: what if we all show up at their office in person? They can't ignore us then! Who's with me? 😤✊
