Baby bonding PFL claim stuck in 'date correction' limbo - can't reach anyone for 3+ weeks!
I'm at my wit's end trying to get my baby bonding benefits! I transitioned from pregnancy disability to baby bonding PFL on May 15th, 2025, but when I got my award letter, they somehow entered my return-to-work date as June 15th instead of August 15th. This completely messes up my benefit period! I called on June 3rd and spoke with a rep who said they'd submit it for review and correction. It's now been MORE THAN 3 WEEKS with zero updates! My account still shows the wrong dates, no payments have been issued, and my savings are nearly gone. I've called the main number at least 15 times (literally) but either get disconnected or wait 2+ hours only to be told they "can't provide any updates" on the review process. Is there another department or special number I should be calling? A supervisor? An email address that actually works? I'm getting desperate and have a 3-month-old to care for while my husband's income alone isn't covering our expenses. Any advice from someone who's dealt with date correction issues would be amazing!

I went through almost this exact same situation last year! The difference between PDL and PFL dates is where they ALWAYS mess up. Here's what worked for me: 1. Instead of calling the general EDD line, call the Disability branch directly at 1-800-480-3287 since your claim started as pregnancy disability 2. When you get the automated system, press 1, then 6, then 2 - this skips some of the standard menu options 3. Ask specifically for a "claim filing technician" not just any representative 4. Have your DE2501 and DE2508 form numbers ready to reference The regular reps often don't understand how to fix transition issues between pregnancy disability and baby bonding. A claim filing technician can actually see both systems and correct the dates. It still took about a week after I reached the right person, but they fixed it.

•Thank you SO MUCH for these specific steps! I've been asking for any representative who would talk to me, but I didn't know to ask for a claim filing technician specifically. I'll try this exact sequence tomorrow morning. Did they backpay you for the weeks that were delayed while they fixed it?

OMG the EXACT SAME THING happened with my bonding leave!!! They got my dates wrong by like 6 weeks and I almost lost my apartment waiting for them to fix it. I ended up having to borrow money from my parents which was super embarrassing at 34. The EDD system is a complete joke!!!

•Same here! They messed up my dates and then had the nerve to tell me I'd have to reapply. Like... what? I already sent all the paperwork correctly the first time!

I might be able to help clarify some things about the date correction process. I used to work in HR and helped many employees with their PDL-to-PFL transitions. When there's a date error on a baby bonding claim that started as pregnancy disability, it often requires coordination between two different departments within EDD. The pregnancy disability claims are processed by State Disability Insurance (SDI), while the baby bonding claims are handled by Paid Family Leave (PFL). Even though both are part of EDD, they sometimes don't communicate well internally. You need to specifically request a "transition claim review" and mention you need coordination between SDI and PFL departments. Also ask them to document in your file that you reported the error within the first 10 days of receiving the incorrect notice - this is important for backpay purposes. In the meantime, if you're facing serious financial hardship, you can request an expedited review by submitting Form DE2501HP (Hardship Request). This can sometimes speed up the process when you're facing eviction, utility shutoffs, or inability to buy necessities.

•Thank you for this detailed explanation - it helps me understand why this is taking so long. I didn't realize I was dealing with two different departments! I'll definitely ask for a "transition claim review" and mention the coordination between departments. Is the DE2501HP form available online? I can't find it on the EDD website and I'm definitely at the hardship point now. We're having to choose between utilities and baby supplies at this point.

the ppl at edd dont care about ur situation they just collecting a paycheck. i had same issue waited 5 WEEKS for a simple date fix. ended up having to call my assembly member's office to get it fixed. look up ur local assembly rep office and call them, they have special contacts at edd who actually do stuff

•I didn't even think about contacting my assembly member! That's a great idea if the other suggestions don't work. Did they fix your issue quickly once the assembly office got involved?

I remember when I had my baby in 2023, I went through the whole PDL to PFL transition and it was a nightmare. Called EDD literally 30+ times and got disconnected every single time or sat on hold for hours just to get someone who couldn't help. So frustrating when you have a newborn crying in the background while you're on hold forever! I finally used a service called Claimyr that got me connected to an EDD agent in under 10 minutes. It was seriously a game changer for my sanity. I think I found them at claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 Once I got through to someone, I had to be super specific about needing a date correction on a transition claim (just like someone else mentioned here). It took about a week after that call, but they finally fixed it and I got backpay for all the missed weeks.

•Has anyone else used this service? Sounds too good to be true when I've spent HOURS trying to get through to EDD myself...

•I've used it twice - it definitely works but just make sure you're prepared with all your claim info before you get connected. Once you get through to a real person, you want to make the most of the call!

This type of problem is why I tell all my pregnant friends to double and triple check EVERY SINGLE DATE on both their pregnancy disability and baby bonding forms before submitting! The EDD system is so rigid that once a date is entered incorrectly, it takes an act of Congress to fix it. One thing to try: send a message through your UI Online account specifically asking for a "Claims Adjuster Specialist" to review your file. Include the exact dates that need to be corrected and reference your original submission date. Also, request that they add a "Special Circumstance Flag" to your account due to financial hardship. This is different from the hardship form mentioned above (which is also good to submit). The flag can bump you up in the review queue. Good luck - and document EVERYTHING. Write down the name of every person you speak with, the date/time, and what they told you. You may need this documentation later.

•Thank you for these additional tips! I'm going to try them all at this point. I've started keeping a log of my calls but didn't get names for the first dozen or so. I'll definitely be more diligent about documenting everything from now on. The "Special Circumstance Flag" is something no one has mentioned to me before - I'll specifically ask about that.

Have you tried calling exactly at 8:00am when they first open? That's when I finally got through for my baby bonding issue. Also, does your employer have an HR benefits person? Mine was able to call a special employer line at EDD and verify my dates of employment/leave which helped speed things up. Just be careful that your updated end date doesn't conflict with when you're actually returning to work or that could cause even more problems!

•I tried calling right at 8am twice last week but still got the "high call volume" message. I didn't think about asking my HR department though - that's a great idea! I'll call them tomorrow and see if they can help verify my dates through their employer channel. Thank you!

anyone else notice that they make these "mistakes" right when your bills are due?? seems suspicious to me... they know exactly what theyre doing making us wait for money we earned while they sit on it collecting interest

•I've thought the same thing!!! Why is it ALWAYS the dates that get messed up? And always in a way that delays payment??

•While these errors are incredibly frustrating, they're typically the result of system limitations and processing volume rather than intentional delays. The EDD system processes thousands of claims daily, and the pregnancy-to-bonding transition is particularly prone to errors because it involves switching between two different benefit types. Always request interest payment for any delays beyond 14 days after reporting the error - you're entitled to it by law.

Just wanted to check in - were you able to get through to anyone using any of these suggestions? I know exactly how stressful this waiting period is, especially with a newborn!

•I FINALLY got through yesterday using the Claimyr service someone mentioned above! It connected me to an agent in about 15 minutes (after days of failing to get through on my own). I asked specifically for a transition claim review and a claim filing technician like you suggested. The agent confirmed they had the correction request from my June 3rd call but it was "pending review" with no timeline. When I mentioned financial hardship and asked about the Special Circumstance Flag, she put me on hold for about 10 minutes and came back saying she'd escalated it to a supervisor for immediate review. She said I should see an update within 48-72 hours and they would backpay all weeks I was eligible for. Fingers crossed this actually happens! I'll update once I know more. Thank you all SO MUCH for your help!

That's amazing news! I'm so glad you were able to get through and get it escalated. The fact that they confirmed your original request was just sitting there "pending review" with no timeline is exactly the kind of bureaucratic nonsense that drives people crazy. Keep us posted on whether the 48-72 hour timeline actually happens - I think a lot of people here would benefit from knowing if that supervisor escalation actually works. And definitely make sure you get that backpay for all the weeks you've been waiting! This whole thread has been super helpful for understanding the PDL-to-PFL transition issues. I'm bookmarking it in case I need it for my own maternity leave next year. Thanks for sharing your experience and hopefully this nightmare is almost over for you!
