Hey, don't lose hope! I managed to get my issue resolved after a few calls. Just be persistent and don't be afraid to ask for a supervisor if you're not getting anywhere with the first person you talk to.
Thanks for the encouragement! I'll definitely keep trying.
I went through something similar a few months ago. Turns out the 8 vs 12 week thing often depends on the specific reason for your leave. For bonding with a new child, it's typically 8 weeks, but if you're caring for a seriously ill family member, you might qualify for up to 12 weeks. Also, double-check that you didn't accidentally apply for SDI instead of PFL - I know people who've made that mistake. When you call, have your Social Security number and claim number ready, and don't hang up if they put you on hold for a long time. The wait sucks but it's usually worth it to get answers. Keep us posted on what you find out!
This is really helpful, thank you! I think I might have gotten confused about the different types of leave. I applied for bonding with my new baby, so maybe that's why it's only 8 weeks? I didn't realize there was a difference between SDI and PFL either - I'll double check that when I call. Appreciate the tip about staying on hold too, I tend to hang up when it gets too long but I'll be more patient this time!
Lol everyone arguing about SDI but nobody mentioned you should also apply for WIC and possibly CalFresh. The income requirements go up when you're pregnant/have a child, and if you're only getting 60% of your regular pay during leave, you might qualify! Free food and formula can save you hundreds $$$ each month.
That's a great point! I hadn't even thought about WIC or CalFresh. I'll look into the income requirements. Every little bit will help during leave.
Hey there! I'm also an LAUSD after-school program employee and went through this exact situation 6 months ago. First, congratulations on your pregnancy! I can confirm that if you see SDI deductions on your paystub, you ARE eligible for both disability and PFL benefits. I was initially worried like you because our program doesn't offer any paid maternity leave, but the state benefits are completely separate from what your employer offers. Here's my timeline that worked well: I filed my DE2501 form online exactly 9 weeks before my due date. My OB was very familiar with the process and submitted their portion electronically. I got approved for 4 weeks pre-birth disability, then 6 weeks post-birth recovery, followed by 8 weeks of baby bonding PFL. One tip: Keep checking your EDD online account regularly during the process. There was one point where they needed additional documentation and I almost missed the deadline because I wasn't checking frequently enough. Also, definitely file your FMLA/CFRA paperwork with your supervisor separately - it's what protects your job while you're on leave. The benefits and job protection are two different things that you need to handle separately. Feel free to message me if you have any specific questions about navigating the LAUSD system during this process!
Hi Ellie! Thank you so much for sharing your experience - it's so reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same situation with LAUSD after-school programs! I really appreciate the detailed timeline. Quick question - when you say to check the EDD online account regularly, about how often were you checking? Daily or weekly? I'm definitely a worrier and want to make sure I don't miss anything important like you almost did with that additional documentation deadline.
Hey OP, any luck solving this? I'm getting the same error now and I'm pulling my hair out!
Not yet, still working on it. I'll update if I figure it out!
I ran into this exact same E324 error last year! What finally worked for me was logging out completely, waiting about 30 minutes, then logging back in with a fresh session. Also make sure you're not using any VPN or proxy - EDD's system gets really picky about that stuff. If you're still stuck, try accessing the site from a different IP address (like using your phone's hotspot instead of home wifi). The system seems to have some weird IP-blocking issues that cause these random errors. Hope this helps!
Oh wow, the IP address thing makes so much sense! I've been trying from the same home wifi this whole time. Definitely going to try switching to my phone's hotspot - never would have thought of that. Thanks for the tip about waiting 30 minutes too, I've been trying back-to-back attempts which probably isn't helping. Fingers crossed this works! 🤞
This is really helpful! I've been banging my head against the wall with this E324 error for days. Never thought about the IP blocking thing - that could totally explain why it works sometimes and not others. Going to try the phone hotspot trick right now. @Luca Russo you should definitely give this a shot too since you re'the original poster dealing with this nightmare!

Maybe try applying online instead of by phone? I found the online system to be more reliable (tho still not perfect lol

I work at a local social services office and see this issue way too often. Here's what I recommend: 1) File a new PFL application ASAP - don't wait for them to fix the "missing" one. 2) When you call, ask to speak with a supervisor and mention that your original application disappeared from their system. 3) Keep detailed notes of every call (date, time, rep name, what was discussed). The squeaky wheel gets the grease with EDD unfortunately. Also, if you're still within your benefit period, you shouldn't lose any eligibility by reapplying. Hang in there!

•This is super helpful advice from someone who actually works in the system! @Cassandra Moon, do you know if there's any way to expedite the process once you reapply? And should Paolo mention the waiver denial when filing the new PFL application?
