SDI stopped payments after 24 days, claiming ID not verified. Need help with appeal and backpay!
I'm having issues with my state disability claim. They stopped paying me after 24 days, saying they couldn't pay after a certain date. I sent in all the documents they asked for, including my identity verification stuff, but they're saying I didn't verify my identity. I even sent my social security statement which they specifically requested. Now I need to appeal and get my back pay. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to handle the appeal process?

Ugh, the state disability office is a nightmare to deal with. I've been there, done that. Here's what you need to do: • Gather ALL your documents. I mean everything - identity verification, medical records, the works. • Write a detailed timeline of events. When you applied, when you sent docs, when payments stopped. • Call them ASAP. Be prepared to wait on hold forever. • Ask for a supervisor if the first person can't help. • Request a written explanation of why your payments stopped. • File your appeal in writing and keep copies of EVERYTHING. • Consider reaching out to your local state representative. They can sometimes help push things along. Good luck, and don't give up! The system is designed to wear you down, but stay persistent.

This is solid advice. I'd add: keep a log of every call you make, including date, time, and who you spoke to. It'll help if you need to escalate later.

Reaching out to your state rep is key! They helped me break through the bureaucracy when I was stuck in limbo for months.

Thank you so much for this detailed response! I'll definitely start putting together that timeline and document everything. Did you have any luck getting back pay when you appealed?

Yeah, I did eventually get my back pay, but it took about 3 months of constant follow-up. Stay on them!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20 to avoid hours on hold? Sign me up! How long did it take to get through?

It took about 2 hours for me, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music. They just called me when an agent was on the line. Totally worth it imo.

Idk man, paying to talk to a government agency feels wrong. Shouldn't this be free?

I get it, but time is money. I'd rather pay $20 than waste a whole day on hold. 🤷♂️

have you tried faxing your documents? sometimes the online system glitches and faxes actually get through faster. old school but it worked for me!

This happened to me too! Turns out there was a glitch in their system that was flagging perfectly valid IDs as unverified. Keep pushing and escalating. It's a pain but you'll get there. 💪

Oh wow, that's good to know. Did you have to do anything special to get them to realize it was a glitch?

I had to speak to a supervisor and basically walk them through my entire file. It was a headache, but once they saw the glitch, things moved pretty quickly.

Preach! 👏 It's like they're playing a game of who can last the longest without going broke.

Have you tried contacting your local news station? Sometimes public pressure can work wonders.

Quick tip: if you're having trouble getting through on the phone, try calling right when they open. I usually have better luck in the first 30 minutes.

This! Also, avoid calling on Mondays and Fridays if possible. Mid-week seems to be less busy.

Unfortunately, there's no online system for appeal status. It's stone age over there. Gotta call and bug them 😩

Pro tip: If you're not getting anywhere with the regular customer service, ask to speak with the Identity Verification department directly. They can sometimes override the system if they can see your docs are legit.
