EDD denied my disability claim over a missing W2. Just filed appeal. Any advice?
I've been on disability since July and still haven't received a payment. My claim was effective July 29, but yesterday they denied it. I sent in an appeal this morning. They wanted me to prove my social security number was mine, so I sent in everything they asked for. Apparently, I missed one W2 from one of my three jobs, so they decided to deny benefits. I included the missing W2 with my appeal. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice?

Ugh, that sucks! I'm in the same boat. EDD is such a mess rn. I've been waiting since August and still nothing. Keep pushing tho, don't give up! 💪

6 months?! That's insane. How did you survive that long without income?

Pro tip: Always triple check EVERYTHING before sending it in. They'll use any excuse to deny you. I learned that the hard way too.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

I was skeptical too, but it actually worked for me. Saved me hours of hold time.

$20 tho? That's kinda steep just to talk to someone...

True, but consider how much time you'd waste on hold. For me, it was worth it to finally get answers.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather ALL your documents, including every W2 from the last 18 months. 2. Write a detailed letter explaining your situation. 3. Include medical documentation if possible. 4. Send everything via certified mail so you have proof they received it. 5. Follow up weekly by phone or email. 6. If you don't hear back in 30 days, contact your local state representative. Stay persistent! The system is designed to wear you down, but don't let it. You've got this! 💯

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely follow these steps. Do you think I should resend everything or just wait for the appeal process now?

Since you've already filed the appeal, wait for that process. But have everything ready in case they ask for more info. And def start calling/emailing for updates!

Have you considered getting a lawyer? Sometimes just having legal representation can speed things up.

I hadn't thought about that. Wouldn't a lawyer be expensive tho?

Some do free consultations and only charge if they win your case. Might be worth looking into!

This happened to my cousin last year. He ended up contacting his state senator's office and they helped push things through. Maybe try that?

OP, what kind of disability are you claiming? Some are easier to get approved than others.

It's for a back injury I got at work. Had to have surgery and everything.

Oof, back injuries can be tricky. Make sure you have ALL your medical records and maybe get a letter from your doctor explaining why you can't work.

idk if this helps but I found this guide on the EDD website about appeals: [link]. It breaks down the process step by step.
