SDI payment delay: 3+ weeks, no response from EDD. Tips to expedite?
I applied for SDI over 3 weeks ago and still haven't received any payment. All my forms were sent in within a few days of applying. My return to work order has been extended through August 23rd. I've been trying to call to expedite the process but it's impossible to reach anyone on the phone. After hours of trying, I gave up and drove to an EDD location. I was finally able to get help in person. Has anyone else experienced these delays? Any advice on how to speed things up?

Anyone else feel like they're playing a twisted game of Monopoly? 'Do not pass GO, do not collect $200, go directly to EDD hell' π²π¦π

Hahaha, exactly! Waiting for SDI feels like being stuck in jail. π€£

And the rules aren't even clear! We need a 'Get Out of EDD Free' card.

At least in Monopoly, you eventually get out of jail. This feels endless.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken π‘

Sounds sketchy. How do you know it's legit?

I was skeptical too, but I was desperate. It actually worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

How long did you have to wait once the call connected?

Did you face any issues after you got through to an agent using Claimyr?

unpopular opinion: maybe if we all stopped trying to call them constantly, they'd have more time to actually process our claims π€·ββοΈ

Possibly, but the systemic issues likely go beyond just call volume.

Welcome to the club, buddy. I've been waiting for 6 weeks now. It's like they're playing hide and seek with our money π

I feel ya, OP. I'm in the same boat. Applied 5 weeks ago and crickets... Starting to wonder if I should just give up and go back to work, even though I'm not fully recovered. This system is a joke.

Don't give up! And definitely don't go back before you're ready. Hang in there.

You could also consult with a labor attorney to understand your rights and options.

Pro tip: Keep ALL your paperwork. I mean everything. They lost my forms twice and I had to resend them. It's a clown show over there π€‘

It might be worthwhile to send documents both electronically and via mail to cover all bases.

Anyone else notice that the EDD website always seems to be 'under maintenance' when you actually need to use it? π

omg yes! It's like they know exactly when I'm gonna log in and shut it down just for me π

A scheduled maintenance log on their site might help us plan around these downtimes.

Listen up, folks. I've been through this rodeo before and here's what you need to know: 1. Document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every form you submit. Keep a log with dates and names. 2. Be persistent but polite. The people on the phone didn't create this mess. 3. Use multiple channels. Phone, email, in-person visits, and even snail mail. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. 4. Know your rights. Read up on the SDI guidelines. Sometimes the reps don't know all the rules. 5. If all else fails, contact your state representative or the EDD ombudsman. 6. Join Facebook groups or forums for SDI claimants. Sometimes you can get insider tips. Remember, you're not alone in this. The system is overwhelmed, but stay strong. You'll get through this!

Has anyone tried faxing their documents instead of mailing them? I heard it might be faster.

Faxing can be surprisingly effective. Plus, keep a fax confirmation for proof.

Have you tried reaching out to your local representative? Sometimes they can help expedite things. I did this and got my claim processed within a week after waiting for over a month.

I hadn't thought of that. How do I find my local rep?

Just google '[your city] state representative'. They usually have a contact form on their website. Good luck!
